I took my mother out for brunch to celebrate her birthday, and the service we received from our server, Joshua, fell well below expectations. Shortly after we were seated, Joshua approached our table ready to take our order. We politely asked for a few minutes to review the menu, but he did not return for approximately 15 minutes. I ordered the Market Hash with an English muffin, while my mother ordered the Monterey Club with a cup of soup. When our food arrived, we noticed that both of our spoons appeared dirty, preventing my mother from enjoying her soup right away. Additionally, my order came with whole-grain toast instead of the English muffin I had requested. While I understand that mistakes can happen, Joshua was nowhere to be found when we needed assistance. When he eventually returned, we requested a clean plastic spoon and the English muffin that was missing from my order. Unfortunately, it took another 10 minutes for these items to arrive. By that point, my mother's soup had gone cold, and the overall experience had left us frustrated and ready to leave. Despite the poor service, I tried to remain positive because it was my mother's birthday, and I wanted her to enjoy her special day. It was disappointing that what should have been a pleasant birthday brunch instead became such an unpleasant dining experience. I understand that restaurants can have busy days, and occasional mistakes are inevitable. However, attentiveness, professionalism, and basic courtesy go a long way toward ensuring a positive customer experience. Unfortunately, those qualities were lacking during our visit, and Joshua's service came across as inattentive and, at times, dismissive. As a returning First Watch customer, I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these concerns. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this particular location, and the service we received today has certainly made me reconsider returning.
