Exploring the details of the building and the monthly artist they feature is worth the trip. People watching is another attraction. The Congregation pulls together a diverse group of people, reflecting the neighborhood it calls home. We are mocha snobs and thoroughly enjoyed our mocha prepared in a large mug. It was beautiful, rich and piping hot. This trip, we added a freshly sliced piece of banana chocolate chip bread. Look forward to trying some of their other menu offerings in the future. The staff worked efficiently and were friendly in an "urban setting" kind of way. Seating inside is ample yet also stayed full as this place appears to be quite popular. Prices were reasonable. We will return just to hang out and try more of their offering or the attached pizza place called The Rectory. On Wednesdays, they offer a local farmers market. Kudos to the visionaries who restored this building and created an interesting and warm community gathering place.

I know there are a lot of coffee shops in the Detroit area, but put this one towards the top of your list!

Super hot so it took a bit to cool, but then a strong roast. While the laws of thermodynamics were underway, I was able to watch the flow of customers, observe the "Javabot" that sadly no one used this morning and watch the Detroit traffic circling around Campus Martius. Other than I was not able to get their wifi to work (Detroit has a free wifi as well), it was a good resting spot with quiet background music and it never did get any other sit down customers while I dawdled. I was here just after they opened (at 6 am!) and enjoyed morning coffee and wifi before heading to the office. I love a coffee shop that has a cortado on the menu. Or a Gibraltar. This tells me that the barista isn't some button pusher but instead of a craft coffee barista who actually has some training. I'm talking to you, Green Siren people. The barista this morning assembled a perfect cortado for me. Half espresso and half steamed (not foamed) milk in a short glass. I love the cortado because it's the same amount of coffee as a big latte but now I won't need to hit the restroom all morning! It was fabulous, delivered to my table as I wrote my morning's Yelp reviews. Dessert Oasis is a little grunge, a little industrial, a little coffee shop. It's not fancy but they have lovely wooden tables, comfortable seating, quiet music and power outlets. If I wasn't heading into the office, I could spend all day sitting here and OD'ing on great coffee. [Review 869 of 2025 - 434 in Michigan - 24426 overall]

I entered La Ventana already having heard some great things about the establishment. The space is so beautifully designed, and I especially love how many seating options there are! The menu is a bit limited. I opted to get a matcha, while my friend got his recent go-to, a cold brew with heavy whipping cream and a splash of vanilla syrup. I didn't realize that the drinks came without any sort of sweetener, so I requested a splash of simple syrup after, which the barista kindly did for me! I thought their matcha blend was okay. I got it with oat milk which sometimes changes the flavor, so that could definitely be part of it since I've heard so many good things about it previously. My friend's cold brew was a bit sour, but it still did the job of waking him up and getting us on the go! I could definitely see myself going back here to work and try out some of the basics!
