Smart Autocare - What is covered under this so called warranty

Can I give this company a 0 STAR? I took my car in because the check engine light came on and it…read morewas smoking -- clearly something serious. Instead of focusing on helping resolve the issue, it felt like Smart Auto Care was looking for the smallest possible reason to deny my claim. From the beginning, the process felt more like an investigation against me than support for a paying customer. Rather than trying to work toward a solution, they seemed focused on technicalities and fine print. In the end, my claim was denied, and I was left dealing with a major repair on my own. When you're already stressed about car trouble, the last thing you need is to feel like the company is working against you. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend Smart Auto Care. Make sure you read every detail of your contract and don't expect them to give you the benefit of the doubt. I tried to find a solution and find the middle ground but they are not willing to work something out! DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!

The good: - They did cover a few things they were supposed…read moreto after some hounding from the mechanics. The bad (an abbreviated list): - When we really needed it for a failed engine still in the warranty period and mileage, the claim was denied because the head gasket developed a small leak that ruined the engine over time, and it wasn't a "lubricated engine part" that failed. Also because the mechanics, after months of waiting, installed the engine before the warranty company rendered a final verdict (which was going to be a no anyway), they also denied the claim on the basis of "breach of contract." - They make up their own numbers and decide what they will theoretically compensate based on those arbitrary and fictional numbers. The actual cost of the repair(s) is irrelevant. - They are absolutely awful for the people who have to actually call them (the mechanics), earning a "worst warranty company I have ever had to deal with in my years as a mechanic" comment from one of them. *Hours* on hold, no responses, etc. - They constantly move the goalposts for what is needed for proof of damage and repair. Can't just send photos, they'll probably have to fly an inpector in so their denial is even more expensive for the vict--er--customer. - They charge you for the work they require in order to determine if they will cover the repair, meaning when they say no it will cost you additional hundreds or thousands of dollars (thousands in our case). It would have saved us a lot of money not to file the claim on our engine when it went out. - They drag their feet and waste hours and hours of the time of the people who have the unfortunate obligation of dealing with them. - Because they are so slow and terrible to deal with, days' worth of repair turns into weeks, and weeks' worth of repair turns into months. If you have a personal fleet, and all the time in the world, maybe that wouldn't bother you. - Their interest is not in customer care in the slightest, but entirely in maximizing profits. Ethics don't exist. They're actively looking for any reason to deny claims, especially if they've paid anything holding up their end of the deal in the past. - They habitually say they will cover this or that, and then go back and change their mind. They did this multiple times across different repairs and claims. - In the end, this warranty cost us more than it was worth, and that was even after they covered some of the smaller repairs. I could go on with further issues, but this short list should explain it well enough to make the point. - In summary: Just burn a pile of money instead of giving it to this "business." At least that is kind of fun to watch, and you're not helping scammers operating under the guise of legitimacy.

Good luck if you can ever get anyone to return a call or call you back when they say they will…read more Used them twice and had to ask for communication Multiple times and leave multiple messages. Done this time. I just went directly to the carriers and saved money for the same coverage.

For many years we had our auto and home policies with this company. About a year ago the agency was…read moreswitching carriers with our auto policy. During this time they "forgot" to cancel the direct draft resulting in getting hit twice in one month for auto coverage. When I contacted them, I was told that there was nothing they could do and that it was my responsibility to contact the insurance company for a refund, which took almost a month. No apologies from anyone at the agency, just a "well, these things happen sometimes." That should have been our first clue, not to rock their boat. A few months ago, when adding a new vehicle, we were told our rates would be around $4000 per year for coverage on both vehicles. Since we are both over 55 and have clean driving records we were somewhat shocked, and we asked them to shop policies again and were told that those rates were the best they could do. We also decided to do some research on our own and contacted two other companies for quotes. No one solicited our business (didn't think I'd find out about the complaint you filed with our new company, claiming they solicited us, did you, Steven?) and we were pleased that we could get the same coverage with a major carrier for HALF the price we were quoted. I'm quite disappointed in the fact that over the past year that in order to transact business, it took repeated emails and phone calls to get any response or service. I can only surmise that having our insurance with this company for almost 10 years means nothing to them when the premiums quit flowing in. We are not only disappointed in the decline of service and being treated like outcasts, but we wonder if we were actually getting the best rates all those years. Methinks we trusted them a bit too much. In the past, we recommended this agency to many people, but we can no longer. So if you are looking for insurance, our advice is to keep shopping.
