After. This picture doesn't do it justice. It looks great.

Five stars. Superb. We had a couple of estimates for our floor. Michael, Ann Arbor Hardwoods' owner, was by far the most competent and professional. Pricing was competitive, too. It wasn't the lowest price, but the range was less than you might have thought. During a kitchen remodel, we wanted to re-do the floor as well. It had had 25 years of hard use and abuse, and it was showing its age. Michael walked us through the process, gave us the various options (stain or no stain, for example), all without pressure. He obviously knows what he's doing and his experience with hardwood floors shows. When it came time for the actual refinishing, the crew were prompt, courteous, professional and exceptionally tidy. Sanding floors produces sawdust (surprise!), but the vacuums used during the process kept the sawdust to a minimum. I covered the television downstairs with a plastic sheet (I recommend that), but that was about it. We had no dust upstairs. We had some repair work done at the same time. It was immaculate. You couldn't tell there had been repairs in the water-damaged area by the dishwasher or in front of the closet where the door frame had been replaced. We opted for no stain. That's a personal preference and a bit of a gamble since the wood color is unknown until the old stain comes off. Good choice. The wood looked great after the sanding and the 3 coats of sealant really brought it to life. NOTE: Plan a little time into the schedule to leave the floor sealant to dry properly. A week or so should be enough. You probably don't want to drag a dishwasher over the floor the day afterwards, like we had planned to do (but didn't). After the sealant had dried, the crew replaced the quarter-round edging around the entire area. No problems, no damage and it all looked great. I highly recommend Ann Arbor Hardwoods.

We are delighted with Andrew's performance painting a 17-foot-tall ceiling and foyer in our home…read more Even when we encountered a few unexpected things, Andrew rolled with it. He was very accommodating of my preferences and super easy to work with. It can be stressful to have someone working in your home, but Andrew was easy to have around and respectful of our space. You can tell he truly cared about the quality of his paint job and the satisfaction of his customers. I'll admit I can be a little fussy about paint. I'm very happy with Andrew's work! He even explained why he liked certain products and their performance. We found his rates to be competitive, as well. Here's the real proof: We are planning on having him come back to paint another large room for us. I actually found him soliciting a job here on Yelp. He was very responsive through the entire communication process, and never left me hanging or wondering what was happening, from first contact to when he was arriving. You don't always get that, and it's important. His estimate was clear and professional. This is his own business and there is a definite pride of ownership, and customer care that comes with that. Overall, this was a definitely deserved 5-star experience. Highly recommend!

Their work was clean, organized, and provided a level of attention to detail which I even missed. I especially appreciated their thoughtful recommendations and the respect they payed to my home. They provided an honest estimate of the costs and stayed true to that estimate. They were able to transform my home within a short period of time and left it cleaner than they found it. Highly recommended, in fact I will be using them again for some furniture restoration and other projects. Great team.

Absolute Disaster!!!…read more I hired this person for hardwood floor grinding and refinishing. Pictures tell the story. If you are looking for someone to turn a simple job into an electrical adventure, leave a mess behind, and create new problems you didn't have before -- this may be the person for you. On top of the poor workmanship, he was extremely rude and disrespectful. He attempted to connect his machine directly to a live electrical line, which resulted in damage to the electrical panel and an expensive oven showing a "Bad Line" error. Apparently, quality control and safety procedures were optional. Blamed the panel. The job was left with trash scattered around, and somehow the priority became demanding payment before the work was completed. Asked for additional $150 to "dispose" of the trash that he left behind. To add to the experience, machines were left sitting on carpet, creating another potential mess. We ended up contacting the local police. A reminder for anyone considering hiring him: do not release payment until you have personally inspected every detail of the work. Before making the deal demand full clean-up and disposal of trash. Take before pictures. Check your appliances, check your electrical system, and check that your property is actually left in better condition than when he arrived. Unfortunately, the experience was not the kind anyone wants.

Then Nathan reached out and provided a quote that was slightly higher than the one I had chosen, but his estimate stood out for its professionalism and detailed breakdown -- including shoe molding removal and replacement of damaged boards. I decided to go with him, and I'm so glad I did. Nathan communicated promptly and understood exactly what we needed. He and his coworker Leeland clearly knew their craft and did a fantastic job. They paid close attention to every detail, working carefully around the corners, closets, and especially the badly worn kitchen area. The floor now looks brand new and will surely impress potential buyers. I highly recommend their work!
