I've been here at least 20 times over the last three years and it's safe to say that this is my favorite Lebanese restaurant ever! I love everything about it from the decor to the food, everything about this place is just pleasant as hell! And for it to be located on Woodward, they have a ton of places you can park like in front on Woodward that's metered, parking on the side street that's also metered and a lot in the back. The food here is amazing! It's extremely fresh, seasoned to perfection and never ever disappoints! My favorites from here are the spinach pie and mujadara (lentils, rice and onions - so so good!), but this time around for lunch I got the falafel plate and my friend got the chicken shawarma. I chose to get a cup of soup to start, something I hardly ever do but I'm so happy I did. They have a "Lemon Lentil" soup that I have fallen in love with! When I ate meat I used to get chicken lemon rice soup all the time from coney, and I think this is suppose to be a variation of that, which is just incredible. For my lunch plate I opted to have my falafel baked, which tasted way better than fried I think. The rice, hummus and tabouli were on point as usual and my friend loved his meal as well. We both cleaned our plates and got take out from Anita's the next night :) read more

Let me start by saying that all their dishes are authentic and prepared very well. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating was that the service was slow and our waiter was really inexperienced. He brought out our appetizers, left the table and did not bring any silverware to eat with! Literally had to find him to ask for silverware. So, to the owner or manger of the establishment, do a better job in training your wait staff. The food is definitely the star of the show here. We started with a Babaganush and a grape leaf appetizer. The grape leaves we cooked to perfection, not your ordinary grape leaves out of a can, but obviously home made with a nice mixture of rice and meat on the inside. This is served with some tabouli salad on the plate. The Baba was perfect with all the right textures and just spiced right. Even the Pita bread was nice and thin and most importantly fresh. The mixed grill bowl was grilled to perfection and it's obvious that all the meats were marinated. We had the Chicken, Kofta and Lamb kebabs (see photos). They also make a nice Turkish cafe to finish your meal. Would highly recommend for a great middle eastern food taste. I hope the do get better waiters though! read more

This has been one of our favorite middle eastern places but thus time it was only a three star experience. It started with the server telling me I could not get a gin and tonic cause they don't have gin. Of course they do, but my server had never served anyone a drink of it. Ever. In 6 months. Ooook. We got chicken shish kebob and lamb shank. Our server didn't bring it out though, the manager on duty did. And she didn't stop to ask if we needed anything (extra garlic sauce for the chicken) till much later. Food was ok and server seemed confused, even though there were lots of wait staff on duty. Just wasn't as good as it has been before, all around. read more

Anita's never disappoints. I work at a sales office in Hazel Park and every single time we have a lunch meeting, Anita's is the go-to choice. We've ordered takeout at least 10 times, and they've never forgotten or messed up a single thing. Food is always consistently great and everyone from out of town always raves about their meal. Portions are generous and pricing is fair. I'm struggling to understand how anyone can leave lower than 4 stars. Order the shawarma bowl and thank me later. Absolutely delicious! read more

Make sure that when you go here for curbside service you actually ask them where to pick up your food. I arrived for a curbside order, TALKED to a staff member for pick up about said order and was told they were bringing it out only to wait more than five minutes for someone to run out and tell me (without an apology for the confusion and inconvenience), that curbside can't be done in front of the building any longer. I have to go to the back. Why didn't the person who answered the phone when I called for my order tell me that? That would have been informative AND good customer service. read more

A few days ago my mom was dining here and stayed until closing. She accidentally left her purse and couldn't come back until the following day to pick it up. When the staff here returned it to her she had $250 missing from her wallet. The manager said he didn't know anything about it and claimed the cameras aren't working. It's possible that another customer took the money but the staff's reluctance to help and dismissive nature about the cameras tells me that they're lying. Either way we won't be returning. read more

Why did you remove the Entrees with bowls? Trendy? It's like half the food for hardly less money. We ordered from you same thing for years. Now we will go somewhere else. Update why put quinoa in tabouleh when I did not order gluten free? Hope it's not your new-normal. Maybe time to go back to a more "authentic" middle-eastern restaurant... read more

solid 4 stars. Never had a bad meal here. Falafel is just great. Pickles are textbook. It succeeds at what its goal is. Great food and will not disappoint. I only give it 4 and not 5 stars because if you look a little harder there are restaurants in Hamtramck that (sorry Anita) blow this out of the water. I love anita's. we are so lucky to live around detroit and be able to experience so much authentic food. Anitas is like the place that ferndalers who are scared of hamtramck go to get middle eastern food. Its yummy. Thanks anita's! I ate here yesterday. read more

Loved the cozy ambience of the restaurant, definitely better for date night vs. a large group outing. I was expecting a bit more authentic Lebanese food, but the food was good nonetheless. The lamb shank I ordered was very tender and flavorful, I'm just personally not a fan of the rich tomato base and potatoes and carrots it came with. I think I would have been better off ordering a shish tawook or shwarma platter. Drinks were strong, and good. Service was definitely great- our server was very personable and took special care with our orders. read more

My love for Anita's Kitchen will never end. It just never disappoints- the food is always fresh, seasoned, and absolutely amazing. I recommend checking out their lunch deal before 4:00pm, too. This is easily my favorite place in Ferndale. They have so much to chose from- salads, entrees, pizza, apps, shawarmas, etc! Their portions are really great and the service is always friendly and speedy. I LOVE YOU ANITA'S KITCHEN AND I'LL SEE YOU SOON! :) read more

This review is for carry out, although the ambiance of the place looked great when we picked up our food! Parking: On a Friday night, we had to park on the street a block down. Service: Ordered carry out online & food was ready to go when they said it would be! It was very fast to pick up! Food: We ordered the Vegetarian Mezza. Our total was $31 something. The amount of food for carry-out wasn't worth it. The pita bread is nothing special, grape leaves were good, hummus was good, but I think we were just really disappointed with the portion size. It says on the site feeds 2-4 people for the vegetarian mezza, and between two of us - we were barely full with no leftovers. The falafel was just OK. Nothing special. This would be a great place for date night based on the ambiance alone, but the portion size just aren't worth the price =/ Will not be back. read more

I had my usual, love the lentil soup, this is the only place I will ever eat lentil soup and I don't feel it smells like dirty armpits when it's in front of me. I had the Mediterranean salad, my BF had the lamb dish, with hummus, soup and tabbouleh. My salad was decent, but there was way too many sun dried tomatoes, olives and the dressing is too bitter to work with the rest of the ingredients, but I am glad I asked for the dressing on the side, because in the past the salad is always so soggy, otherwise. The salad as a whole is over powering and too much. I am always a bit disappointed and overwhelmed by the flavors of the Mediterranean salad every time, but have difficulty placing what flavor is too over powering because there are too many items that are in much abundance. My BF commented why my salad cost the same amount as his lamb dinner and has no meat in it. I didn't know why, but I noticed it as well. read more

Asked for kafta kabob to be cooked through. Came back raw inside. Second time around: asked for kafta kabob to be cooked through. Came back undercooked. I emailed them more than two weeks ago. No answer. I emailed again. No answer. Don't go to this place! read more

I have not been impressed with a casual sit down like this in age!!! To begin, the staff is incredible; attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. We ordered a mezza plate with slight alterations, and were able to have a little bit of nearly everything. Started with the raw lamb, and it delivered! So much flavor, perfect texture, and a great way to start the meal. The falafel was the best I have had maybe ever. The spinach pie was rich and flavorful without being overwhelming. The Mediterranean was a great choice, as it featured the hummus and tabouleh, but mostly because of the falafel!!! I cannot speak of it highly enough. Also, had a za'atar martini, which now ranks as my new #1 alternative martini. Will be coming time and time and time again. read more

I personally don't like any of the food here. It's bland or too salty often times. I really don't know what else to say.

My boyfriend and I frequent Anitas kitchen.... our First time trying their Chicken Wings and they are UNDERCOOKED literally RED and BLOODY on the inside. I gagged. My boyfriend downed at least 3 before we noticed that this was not SAUCE but BLOOD...definitely NOT HAPPY about that... you can not undercook chicken it's simply too dangerous. Will NEVER order the chicken wings again, lesson learned. Will stick to items that don't require cooking ....pita bread;hummus;garlic .... read more

We've been loyal customers to Anita's for many years, and I keep on coming back here and each time, the food portions have been so inconsistent. Within the last two years though, the portions have been not only pathetic but the flavors have not been as good. I paid $14 for a beef shawarma dinner and got a really disappointing amount. What happened to the days when two people couldn't even finish one dinner entree? We used to pay $12 for this meal and get MORE protein. Unfortunately, the current amount wouldn't even be enough for one person, and looks like somebody's leftover. I haven't been back regularly because of this, but each time I come back after a long hiatus, I am hopeful that it has changed. Well, time's up - after tonight's take out meal, I will no longer support this local business. We all work too hard for our money to waste it on subpar meals and portions. read more

I got the Arabian pizza with chicken shawarma instead of lamb. It was sooo good and light. The only thing I didn't like was how chunky the artichoke was, even through it gave it the exact taste that I loved. For my meal, I got the salmon, rice, and hummus dish with a side of lentil soup. That was delicious too! The only real bust was the pita bread they gave us for the appetizer. So dry and bland - I wish it was fresh and not store bought. read more

Anita's is usually one of my favorite restaurants. I rarely dine in, but get carry out from here all the time, and have for at least the past 6 years. I've been able to depend on them to be fast and delicious. I recommend it to everyone who's never been there. I'm pretty standard with what I get. Some of my favorites are the Chicken Feta Fattoush, Arabian Pizza, Phoenician Pizza. I love the fresh juices. The baba ghanoush is some of the best I've ever had, lacking the heavy handed liquid smoke flavor and pureed consistency that show up at other restaurant's. On the other hand, I don't bother with the shawarma/sandwiches because compared to large number of Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, they're pretty lacking. But the freshness, creativity and quality of the other dishes on the menu always made up for it. My experience getting carryout tonight, however, was a different story. The creativity is still there, but the quality disappoints. To preface this, I am generally easy to please. I worked in food service for years so I understand mistakes happen. Tonight went a little too far though. I placed a carry out order online and was quoted 20 minutes. With that said, I was a little irritated when my boyfriend ended up having to wait another 20 minutes at the bar after arriving. It was easy to forgive, though. I know it's a Saturday night and it's insanely busy. I also ordered something I had never ordered before too (Joe's Not So Buffalo Chicken Wings) which apparently were holding up the order. I guess that's what I get for ordering chicken wings? Once we finally got the order home, there were more weird problems. I was eating the Greek salad when felt something weird in my mouth. I'm pretty sure it was a thin, falling apart chicken bone with a bunch of stewed tomatoes stuck to it. Next, my boyfriend and I proceeded to find around 16-17 pepperoncini STEMS in the salad. We just kept pulling them out! The salad only had one actual pepperoncini in it. Again, I understand mistakes happen. Maybe there are some new people in the kitchen? Maybe it was so busy no one noticed they were putting a chicken part and a handful of pepper stems in a salad? All possible... doesn't make it not unappetizing, though. I'm just glad I'm not vegetarian, because it would go beyond odd and into unacceptable territory, because it is a meatless salad. Also, one of the chicken wings was entirely bone/gristle. And though we ate them, the others didn't exactly seem like the freshest, and were pretty dry. Again, that's what I get for ordering chicken wings. At least the baba ghanoush was good. Thinking back, though, there are a few other times the past year that Anita's has not been up to par. It's really disappointing. Last spring I remember ordering a side of garlic sauce for a sandwich that, upon opening, was completely liquid. Super gross. About two months ago when I ordered the Chicken Feta Fattoush, my usual favorite, it mysteriously came with lettuce, which it usually doesn't. I mean, I guess that's fine, just not right. Salads generally come with lettuce, just not this one. I figured either they decided to start making it with lettuce or someone new screwed up. That's why I didn't complain. If they did in fact change that, it hasn't been reflected on the menu. Other times in the past year I've ordered have reflected a similar decline in quality-- little to no feta on a salad, varying portion sizes depending on the day, dry sandwiches. I wish I wasn't, but I'm taking a break from Anita's. Hopefully in the time being, they'll get their act together and be as excellent as they once were. read more

I haven't ever had a bad experience with Anita's. Great food, well seasoned. Nice portions, and great service. I frequent it often.

I really need to hang out in Ferndale and Royal Oak more. The boss took us out for lunch today and we decided to come here. I'm so glad we did! I've heard such wonderful things about this place, and it really lives up to the hype. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely it was decorated. It reminds me of a few places I used to dine at in Phoenix when I lived there, so that was a good start. The menu has lots of selections, and the portions are just right. Prices are fair as well. Staff here is super friendly along with great service. We started with a hummus plate and got drinks right away. Our server was really nice and very attentive. I went with the Gyro lunch platter, which came with Tabulah, hummus along with Gyro meat on rice. It was very good! My boss went with the beef shish kabob plate, and my coworkers went with chicken salads. Overall I would come here again. They are very on pointe with thier business, and I was very impressed with my overall experience. Great place to come for dates, dinner with mom and dad or just a quick bite with friends. I can't say enough good things about Anita's Kitchen. I love you! read more

Had lunch there today. Showed up at little past noon. 7 seated tables, 4 of which already had food. Lots of staff all over the place. Waited 5 minutes for our server. Took long time to get him to take our order. About another 5/6 tables came in after us. Few got served before we did. Food took 40 minutes to arrive. When it came, the chicken was burnt dry. Like black and rock hard. Food came out sporadically. Did not have opportunity to say anything about the burnt chicken because waiter never asked. Hummus had good flavor but was thin and almost runny. Grilled veg was just that; needed seasoning. Spinach, goat cheese and lentil dish was good. Soups just average. I regularly eat authentic middle eastern food. This place would go out of business if they had a decent competitor nearby. Just not very good. read more

I asked my girl to stop and pick-up carryout from Anita's since we were both craving shawarma sandwiches. Truth be told this isn't her favorite spot for Mediterranean, but I've never been, even though I've been living here since well before they opened. I've been needing to try this place for a long time. She picked up three chicken shawarma sandwiches, a side of garlic sauce with pita, a bowl of their lemon lentil soup and a bowl of their soup of the day, chicken frica (sp?). Everything together was around $25. First the soups...the lemon lentil was deliciously heavy on the lemon but thick with lentils and really hearty. I'd definitely order that again. The chicken frica had so much potential. Tons of carrots with some lentils and diced onions in a thinner broth but they left the Bay leaves in the soup way too long. As in, there were Bay leaves in my soup...you gotta pull those out after they flavor the broth, otherwise they over-flavor the broth. I tasted and smelled some nutmeg or cinnamon which was to my liking and the chicken and carrots were tender but the pronounced flavor was Bay. It was a little overwhelming. The sandwiches are on the smaller side and their spice mixture is different from most others I've tasted. It was good but it didn't taste as grilled as some of the craveworthy shawarma I've had. The spices were interesting and the marinade held to the chunks of meat but the cut on the meat was a larger chunk rather than medium slices. Again, I have my shawarmas that I crave for one reason or another and these were good but I'm not going to wake up thinking about them. I'd like to try some more of their menu though. read more

Wow. The best middle eastern food I have ever had although a bit pricey.

Former kids of the Detroit suburbs (a longish time ago) with our transplanted son (from our Chicago home, now in GP), my partner and I rely upon his good taste to suggest places to go. Thus, we arrived at Anita's--and enjoyed it! So we had the hummus to start--upper end quality of this great appetizer. The chicken wings didn't do it for me, but I generally am not a fan anyways (the gourmet scout had them and gave them a thumbs up). I had the Shish Tawook (chicken shish kabob)--for those who have had this before, you get exactly what you would hope for, nicely seasoned properly cooked cubes of chicken. And bravo for having a gluten-free menu! Not for me, but for my partner--brought a smile to her face and she was complimentary in all regards. Her choice was the lamb kabobs. The setting is comfortable and stylish. The server was a delight. I'm thinking going for their flatbread pizza next time. The traditional fare is hard to beat, but I'm thinking they do everything well here. read more

For Ferndale, I give this place 4 stars. I actually went to Dearborn for some middle eastern food last weekend so coming here is a bit of a let down. This place is very nice and decently spacious. The indoor seating is a bit crowded. There is a outdoor seating area with heated lamps. Obvious barely anyone was out there yesterday. Everyone who works here are so friendly and nice. My friend and I both ordered some variation of food with falafils. They offer both fried and baked versions which I LOVE! I wasn't sure so the waitress offered to get my half of both. Actually, I felt the baked tasted just like the fried so if you are health conscious get the baked version! They also have gluten-free items! They offer complimentary pita but you have to pay $0.75 for garlic sauce! WTF! I LOVE garlic sauce and at all the Middle Eastern restaurant I have ever been to they just give it to me complimentary. Le sigh. Anyway, we had an overall good experience here. I would come back and get items I can't get at a middle eastern restaurant. Two unisex bathrooms labeled women and men. The "women" bathroom was occupied so I used the "men" Spacious and clean. read more
