OK, a friend had been telling me how awesome this place was and I finally came to try it out. I went in with an open mind and didn't look too closely at descriptions, but just tried whatever she thought was good and picked a few things as well. The gyoza was just ok. The inside tasted good but the sauce wasn't anything special. I wouldn't waste my stomach space here on these again. The soup and salad are good as well, but again, save room for the special rolls! The chicken yakisoba was interesting....had a peanut flavor. We got the salmon carpaccio--wow! Just amazing. I brought home some to the husband and he didn't care for it....yay more for me! We had the Special- Spring Roll...very tasty shrimp in it! The Tokyo Lover roll was my favorite. And Spicy girl....it's not spicy but wow, the lemon flavor! Totally unique. The fried tuna roll isn't on the menu but it was good. Brought home to husband and he ate it....said he liked it as well. The flavor was stronger than some of the others, but we both liked it. The Super Crunch roll was ok. We ate way too much, but gosh, it was like a party going on in my mouth, all those flavors! My daughter liked many of the rolls as well. Thinking she and I will have to make this a special place for us. The husband wasn't crazy about the salmon carpaccio...thinking he just doesn't deserve to go with me LOL! Overall, we had a nice experience. Great food, great service. I admit I spent quite a bit on this meal, but it was well worth every penny. read more

We have high expectations as we just moved here from Hawaii. The flavors were bland on the chicken teriyaki and didn't really taste like a chicken teriyaki. The sushi was subpar and luke warm. This sushi was out of this world delicious and FRESH! We came here because we wanted a date night place, and this place was it! Everyone else was dressed rather casually, but we were dressed nicely and did not feel out of place because the decor was enchanting for the evening. After reading reviews on a different site, my husband suggested this place. As another reviewer said, DO NOT BE PUT OFF by the lack of people in there. They will come. I walked in to an empty restaurant, and when we let, there was at least 5 other tables in the place. On our way, I checked yelp! The reviews were amazing, so we went! When we got there, my husband remembered a review he read mentioned their $30 for $15 deal on YELP! We purchased the deal right there on his phone and enjoyed a great meal for a great deal. We will SO BE BACK. Their lunch menu is very appealing, also! Best sushi deal I've seen around Hampton roads! 3 rolls with miso soup for $11! Can't wait to go back for that. The service was great despite only having one lady waitressing. She worked her tail off, though, and made us feel very welcome and she seemed thankful for our business. The food is always good! This place is one of my favorite sushi spots in the area. I usually order the Christmas Tree roll and the Ang Roll and everything taste so fresh. My boyfriend and I love Rock Shrimp Tempura appetizer. I typically do not like tempura but the way this shrimp is breaded and seasoned is divine! Downgraded to 4 stars because the rolls seem like they have become smaller and they are still priced the same. Also, the service is painfully slow. I've had times that my sushi roll arrived before the appetizer. Each time I've gone, there are just a couple other patrons, but the food still takes forever. We went there based upon the great reviews on Yelp. The service was terribly slow for the amount of people in the restaurant. It took awhile for us to get our sushi and hot food. When we did get our food, it was just okay. The chicken teriyaki was not teriyaki. It was just soy sauce on top of chicken. It was bland. The clam soup was not edible. It had a really strange taste. Great service, very prompt. The location is good, but can sometimes hard to find a spot with the Broken Egg, who generally dominants the parking, in the same area. The inside is very clean with plenty of space. My wife and I have eaten here several times now and have been very pleased with the food every time. Fish is very fresh and perfect cut sizes. Amazing Bento Box! I had the teriyaki salmon. The Shinzo was moist, and very tasteful! Not many sushi bistro bento boxes that I've had could measure up to that! Salmon was equally as great! The wait here is ridiculous and not bc it's busy but bc they dont freaking hire employee. Can't believe it's Friday and there r only 2 chefs, and 1 server. Yeb only 1 server. We came here when the restaurant has about 3 tables, we walked in, the server saw us, wouldnt say a thing, not tell us to wait or anything, just stand there for like 3 mins then she walked us to our table. We knew whAt we want so we ordered right away. 1 sashimi and 2 rolls. All took exactly 35 mins to be ready on our table. Then customers start walking in more and like usual the server will ignore them all till she's ready. Will never come back here despite the fact that their food tastes ok. This place is MUCH better than I thought it would be. Preface: Where I live, in Southern California, the best sushi is made by Japanese immigrant restauranteurs, this is a well known fact. The Korean and Chinese owned Japanese restaurants are cheap, in quality and in price. It's fine, everyone in the area knows this, you get what you pay for. That being said, I have always been willing to pay more for quality fish, and sushi rice that's cleaned and cooked properly, so I steer clear of those types of restaurants at home, and there are so many Asian immigrants in SoCal that I'm never short on quality options. I already had reservations about visiting Ang's because the name is Chinese, but the group I was with wanted sushi, and this place was close by and had, surprisingly, good reviews. So there I am, inside Ang's, and I hear the staff speaking Mandarin, confirming what I already knew. Then the menu looks like it was designed on MS Paint, so I'm sitting there thinking I'll just get a few pieces of nigiri and some sake and call it a night... My hamachi arrives and it actually looks pretty good. There are some decorative cuts made in the fish that don't add much value, but overall it looks like a good cut. I pick it up, and the rice doesn't fall apart, indicating that it was made with a reasonable amount of care. Then I taste it, and my thoughts verbatim are, "This is good, pretty damn good after all." I was blown away, not because it was the most amazing sushi I have ever had, but at least, it was just as good as anything I would order from my go-to spots at home, and certainly much better than I was expecting for this area. With this realization I order a chirashi bowl to see if it's consistent, and sure enough, it is. Even the octopus was tender and delicious. I stood, corrected, and I now have a go-to spot for sushi when I come back to Chesapeake for future business trips. read more

Clean, quiet restaurant. We had great service and the Pineapple Saki was really good. We ordered a jalapeño roll appetizer and a mix of traditional & special rolls. Even though the traditional rolls were different than expected (no descriptions on the menu, so we were unaware), everyone found something they liked. The chef even made a custom roll by request. This place is really good. I had the Crazy ang roll and the volcano roll. Both were delicious and probably the best pieces of sushi I've had in Hampton Roads. Ridiculously good. My only gripe about this place and the reason I can't give it 5 stars is because I literally had to wait an hour for each dish. I have been coming here for a few months now and each time have been thoroughly impressed with the sushi here. I never seem to try anything else because my "regulars" are just that good. Recommend the Salmon Carpaccio and tuna with hot oil. Also the seasonal special - seafood nachos.... A must try! The Pringles chips with salmon, mangos and avocados are amazingly delicious together!! The Crazy Ang roll is awesome as well as the Golden Dream and Super crunch rolls. Get a yelp deal or groupon! Highly recommend this place! Chef Ang is awesome! My friend and I had a lunch time sushi date here as we do quite often. Today one of the usual waitresses that has also been there in the past decided to take the drink and meal order of not 1 but 2 tables that walked in after us. As well as deliver sushi to a table that had previously ordered. When she arrived to our table with no apology for the wait or oversight we asked why this had happened. She gave no response as if she wasn't sure what we were saying with a puzzled expression on her face. We placed both our drink and meal order. It took in excess of 15 minutes before we got our sushi orders. It was delicious as always. My poor rating and review is solely based upon the waitresses lack of attentiveness, nonchalant attitude when asked a direct question, and her comment loudly of "thanks for no tip from you both" at the end of our meal. This is true we left no tip intentionally! Why would I tip poor service? We held the same attitude and priority towards your tip as you did with taking our orders and addressing our concerns. And although the sushi is exceptional there I will not return for this reason. Customer service is just as important as good food! read more

When the driver arrived (30 minutes after we placed the order), our meal wasn't ready and she was gracious enough to wait an additional 30 minutes for them to START the order. Don't waste your money on the calamari- it was the most disappointing. Everything else tasted... typical. Nothing exciting.
