Headed to Knoxville and was looking for a non-fastfood place to have lunch. About 30 minutes from Winston-Salem, Mount Airy was close. There is an Angry Troll in Yadkinville, so we wanted to try the on in Mt. Airy. It didn't have great rating but most of the lower ones were when the bar opened over a year ago. I would tell you, it appears they have the bugs worked out because everything was great. Bartender, Food, Price, Drink (Stout!), Clean... It's about 10 minutes off the highway but worth stopping if you are looking for unique. read more

Visiting family in Mt Airy we needed a venue that could comfortably fit all 10 of us and please all the pallets. Angry Troll was the perfect place!!! We had an amazing server who kept up with all our orders and drinks and there definitely was plenty of seating for all size groups. The food came out hot and delicious!! We had beers in cans and on tap that everyone enjoyed, and we had two appetizers to share and there was plenty to go around. Great Vibe, Friendly Service, Room to Improve on the Food I stopped in here with family for lunch while visiting downtown Mount Airy. Angry Troll Brewing has a really cool vibe -- it's got that laid-back, welcoming feel that makes you want to hang out for a while. We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated quickly. Our server was attentive, super friendly, and made us feel right at home. I ordered the fish and chips, and while the portion size was okay, the fish itself was a little bland. The fries were the real surprise -- so salty it was like I asked for an extra dose of sodium (I didn't ). Not sure what was going on in the kitchen that day, but they definitely went heavy on the salt. That said, I've heard this is a great spot for day drinking and chilling out, and I'd be open to giving it another shot. Maybe the fish and chips were just having an off day. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the ample seating and welcoming atmosphere. Despite arriving during lunchtime on a Saturday, we were seated promptly, and our server, Mandy, provided outstanding service throughout the meal. She was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions, especially since it was my first visit since the rebranding. Her hospitality definitely enhanced the overall experience. For starters, I ordered the fried pickles--absolutely delicious--and the spinach artichoke cheese dip served with thin tortilla chips. The dip was flavorful and rich, making it a perfect appetizer. I also tried a cup of Caribou brand coffee, which was brewed perfectly. For my main meal, I chose the "Pub burger", a double burger with cheese, cooked exactly as I requested. I had it without bread, and it came with the classic lettuce, tomato, and onion--though notably, no pickles were included. I think I could've ordered pickles on the side, but I didn't ask. Since this was my only meal of the day, I decided to indulge a bit more than usual, which is why I doubled the burger. We shared the appetizers. The table also had wood fire pizza, which was very tasty, and a generous house salad. We decided to finish with dessert--a three-layer chocolate cake that was decadently rich. It's definitely meant for sharing, as it was quite large and indulgent. One of the highlights of the venue is the numerous TVs scattered throughout, all broadcasting various sports. This makes it an ideal spot for a guys' or gals' night out--perfect for watching a game while enjoying good food and drinks. The bar offers a wide selection of beverages, adding to the lively and social atmosphere. The water quality tested at 26 PPM using a standard water tester, indicating good purity. As for seating, I preferred sitting at the small tables rather than the booth seating, which features bench seats without padding. Some of the booths do offer privacy with higher walls, making them suitable if you want a more intimate setting. Overall, I would rate my experience a 4.75 out of 5. Meh. This is standard pub food. I don't love pub food but we were here with a group. I had a Greek salad with pulled chicken. The pulled chicken came in a spicy sauce which was okay. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, I hear the beer is good, and the humongous pretzel definitely was the star of the show in my book. We arrived before 6:00, so it wasn't too loud, but just after 6:00 it began to get very loud and hard to hear the person across from you at the table. Strange place. There were 2 tables open but no signs saying they were reserved. So we sat at the bar. Barmaid didn't greet us or look our way. She seemed to think the busboy was more interesting. Same thing happened the first time. We ordered beers. Mine came in a bottle. My friend's came in a can. Instead of giving him a glass to drink from, she asked him if he wanted a glass. She shouldn't even ask. The second round, she asked again and he said no but I thought, poor guy. Barmaid should show some class. We were talking to two guys and then the music starts blaring. Couldn't hear them anymore. I had to raise my hand to get the tab cause she was at the corner talking to the busboy again. This was Thursday night from 7 pm to 9 pm. Walked in around 11:45 am - lots of empty tables- I asked and the hostess said we could choose our seat. We chose a tall table in the bar (one of many open) and sat down waiting to order. A young lady came over and said I'm sorry you can't sit here- there is a reservation waiting for this table? Really? There are MANY empty tables? Don't say we can choose our table if you are going to tell us not to sit there afterwards. We left and they can keep their table. I would have given this place a negative two if it were possible. we went there on 6/05/2025 about 5:30 pm. I knew the second the waitress before taken our order brought out two of the cheapest of the cheap paper plates we were in trouble. This is standard pub food that is TERRIBLE. My husband got two different types of wings and beer battered fries. The fries were very soggy and salty. The boneless chicken wings tasted like they were frozen and deep fried. I got the chicken filly, and the beer battered onion rings. The onion rings tasted like they came from a frozen bag and then added a lot of salt to them, and they were semi burnt. The chicken Philly was not full of chicken but loaded with I don't know what kind of imitation sauce. It was AWFUL. My husband ordered a gin and tonic and they had the nerve to charge extra for the tonic water that goes in the gin to make a gin and tonic. They also charged extra for blue cheese dressing and the ranch dressing to go with the wings and more importantly we have never ever seen such watery dressings. Not thick at all. Same goes for my ranch dressing that I got to go with my onion rings. Dollar Tree has way better silverware than the Angry Troll. They server your food on something plastic and you use the cheapest paper plates we've ever seen to "share or eat your food off of". The service was fine. If your worried about them having tv they have got you covered as they have about 20. The bill came to $80. and change plus a $20.00 tip. For $ 100.00 dollars you could have gone to a cheaper restaurant and got WAY BETTER FOOD. There was a big hype when this restaurant first came to Mt. Airy and I seriously think they will not last. We would not recommend them, nor would we ever go back there. read more
