Guess I can report that I'm not a fan. The quality of the chicken was quite good - plump, juicy, and tender. Unfortunately, "Mild" was not so mild for my tastebuds. I ended up with a burning mouth, and a runny nose from the level of spice. It even came down to scraping off the skin and spices to try to manage enjoying the center part of the chicken piece. Dear Hubby and I shared the #3 plate, which was one sandwich and one open-faced piece of chicken on a piece of Texas-style toast with a few pickle slices. It also came with a side of fries. We also added a side of rice (mistake - it was extremely bland and tasteless). Cole slaw might have been a better choice, and would have balanced the heat of the chicken. There were zero fountain beverages that I could enjoy. I don't drink caffeinated drinks, and I try to avoid copious amounts of sugar. I had water, and Dear Hubby got some root beer. The fries were quite delicious, and the amount provided was generous. That was a highlight of the meal, plus the dipping sauce for the chicken. The cashier was very friendly, so that was a plus and a good first impression. The interior restaurant space is really odd. They've laid it out so that two-tops are shoved up against one wall, and four-tops are shoved against the opposite wall, with an excessively large open space in the middle of the room. Seems like wasted space to me, and not visually interesting or welcoming. Farther across the room, away from the ordering stand and the kitchen, are several raised counters with barstools. DH and I ended up sitting at the end of one of those counter spots. We noted that there are other chicken spots very close by - Chick Fil-A, Zankou Chicken, Wing Stop, El Pollo Loco, this Angry Chickz place, and a Raising Cane's is going in to the spot previously occupied by Amy's. If you're craving hot chicken like I was since the last time I went to Tennessee then this is a good place! It's more corporate than mom & pop but their spices are legit. I always get the mild because I'm a whimp but even that has a kick to it and make my nose drip a little. With the #1 you get 2 decent size sandwiches and a side of fries and you can add a drink for two dollars I think. We also get the Hangry fix bowl which always hits the spot but I think it's big enough for two people to share as well. Their meals are very filling. At "Hot" I felt like I was pepper sprayed in my mouth before someone threw gasoline in my mouth and lit it on fire. The sandwiches were a soggy spicy mess and I just wasn't happy. However at "Medium" I felt like someone sprinkled some Cajun powder on a bowl of Mac, or more like I dipped some Cajun fries in the Mac. There was barely a little kick of heat and everything was cooked nicely. The bowl was tasty and I was happy to be able to taste it this time. The fries were nice and crisp still at the bottom of all that Mac n cheese. Not sure how they were able to do that but they did. The Mac n cheese itself was cheesy gooey goodness, with thick noodles. The chicken mixed in was perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned. Service was fast and friendly, and they made no remark about the milkshake I brought with me as a precaution. Normally when I drive by this spot it looks pretty busy so I think I caught them before the dinner rush. I ordered at the counter and the gentlemen helping me out was nice and thorough. The service didn't exceed my expectations but it doesn't always have to. Sometimes lowkey and nice service is plenty fine enough. I appreciate that they got me in and out of there so the cooks are definitely hustling in the back. The restaurant was super clean and well spaced out to accommodate larger crowds. I even checked out the bathroom and it was super clean. This is definitely a comfortable spot to dine inside at. The decor was bold and fun. The chicken artwork was a little silly in the best way. The Angry Mac and hot chicken are pretty good however if you decide to get the medium spice level or higher it gets really hot. We ordered a medium and two different people said that it was really spicy. The food does taste quite good but it doesn't make me want more after I've finished eating for some reason, like every single time I get the Angry Mac even in the country spice level which isn't even spicy, which is a little surprise. In fact, I am getting full before I finish. The bowl that I often get contains macaroni on top, chicken pieces (With great sauce), and french fries on the bottom. We ordered a few varieties of the hot chicken tenders over white bread with pickles. We ordered the country style chicken, mild, and medium. Each heat level of chicken was great! The medium was as spicy as I would want it. If I ordered the next level of heat it would be too spicy for me. The mild was my favorite because it had enough flavor without being too spicy. TL;DR decent edible chicken is not Nashville style. They don't pay attention to soft drink levels, seating is uncomfortable, music is annoying. I became interested in Nashville style chicken after having some at Crack House on the Las Vegas strip. After returning home to Thousand Oaks, I was hoping to find something similar to what I had there, if not identical. So far, no joy. First, I'm looking for a choice of bone-in pieces with a spicy shell-like coating. The ultra crispy shell-like coating of true Nashville fried chicken, is created with some type of marinade such as buttermilk or pickle juice, and a double dredge of wheat flour combined with corn or potato starch, laced with hot spices and a few herbs. It's fried, then steamed to cook the meat through, then finished with spiced frying oil to restore the extreme crisp. Angry Chickz only offers tenders in sandwiches or bowls. The coating is slightly crispy but the crisp is thin and created from the combination of spices and very little flour. It's bright red from the dusting of a pepper blend. If you pick it up, it will turn your fingers red. The coating easily falls off the meat when lifted up from the bowl. If you're expecting Nashville chicken, this isn't it. It is really more like heavily spiced deep fried chicken tenders in a sandwich bun or atop a bowl. I ordered the Hangry Bowl with medium spiciness. It was a little spicier than I expected, but it was fine. Hangry isn't on their regular menu, you have to go there. It's a base of "buttery" rice with three large tender strips on top. On the side are cole slaw and mac and cheese. Spotting the iced tea dispenser, I also ordered a large fountain drink. The mac and cheese was very creamy -- too creamy in my opinion -- with a paucity of cheese. I like to taste a little sharpness in mac and cheese. The cole slaw was nothing special; shredded cabbage and carrots with a fair amount of tang. The buttery rice was a decent pile of basmati rice. Unfortunately it was overcooked and had the consistency of oatmeal. Unfortunate that, it tasted like it was high quality prior to cooking. The iced tea was such a sad situation. Out. It dispensed slightly tinted water. Another guest commented, "There's something wrong with this iced tea." Yes, there was. He went to the front to let them know. An employee went back there, emerged with an empty bag n box, and talked to the guest. By the body language I could tell it hadn't improved. Wishful thinking, I went back to try for more. Nope, just as bad as before. I settled for Diet Coke. The environment is very "live", as in echoey. Metal seats, hard surface tables, hard laminate floors. Televisions were playing muted football. The chairs with backs on them were the kind also found at Snapper Jacks. That is, to slide far enough back to relax the back, you better have a butt no bigger than 36". The braces that connect the back to the seat will gouge into your sides. To end the pain imposed upon the proximal epiphysis of your femurs, you'll need to sit on one of the stools at a high top. The stool seat tops will accommodate about 2/3 of a normal adult derierre but at least the pain is transferred from there to your back with no support. Suffice it to say, the seating is not comfortable. Adding to the liveliness of the room. The loud music. Shazam told me its genre was "pop". It was nothing like Michael Jackson. You know, the King Of Pop? This music was driven by an electronic drum beat, with some autotune singer squawking over and over, a range of three notes.
