1) The ddeok bokki was watery. This is actually the second time this has been served like this (at this location). I had hoped it was a fluke but it doesn't seem to be. 2) The chicken was old/overcooked. Oddly, I came a little before 5PM which should have been high enough volume. From the over-crunchy batter, it tasted like chicken that was cooked hours ago. You can see the dark batter in the picture--it dried out the meat. It feels like the business is selling old chicken just to get it out the door instead of keeping their standards high while they build clientele. I've been to both the Northridge and Tarzana locations many times. I've never had problems at either of those two. Agoura is not the same. That is disappointing. read more

I was pleased to see this location had a chicken fried rice, which I have never seen before at the locations I have been to. It was fantastic! It reminded me more of a stir fry, because of all the veggies. The fried egg on top was a nice touch. The dumplings were crunchy and tasty. And now for the main event.... the boneless, golden, original. This is my favorite Korean friend chicken of all time. It's so juicy and flavorful with the perfect amount of crunch. I also love the pickled radish that comes with it. This location did not disappoint. The service is great. Its a tiny location, with just one small table inside. I'll start off by saying fried chicken is not my usual fare. It is a dietary staple for my young adult son, however. I've read the many 5 star reviews of this new spot, so I was excited to bring my son here and I have been hyping him up for it. We came here for dinner tonight. There were quite a few other people ordering and also eating here. There is a table inside, a few outside, but plenty of benches and tables around, given that this is a small mall type plaza. The weather is always beautiful and you won't go without a place to sit. I saw in the other reviews that the "Half and Half" chicken is the main attraction, so we ordered it. Boneless. Regular and Secret Sauce. This comes with a tiny side of radish. We also ordered a side of steamed rice, which is also very small for $2. I looked at all their offerings. They have plenty of sides, but alas nothing in the vegetables department. Again, this is not the kind of food I usually eat. The chicken itself came in a box, with the two differently seasoned pieces separated. The chicken was not greasy. I'll give credit where it is due. The Secret Sauce pieces were moist and flavorful and tasty. The regular chicken was dry and unremarkable. We noticed that the radish side was not in our bag, so my son went back and asked for it. He also asked if we could get a dipping sauce for the regular chicken. He was told that would be $2. Ok, so, the "Half and Half" box of chicken is about 14 pieces of chicken for $31.99. Add the $2 side of rice and tax and it is $37. I always try and tip generously, and I added 20% for really nothing more than someone taking my order. So, total was $44.75. The counter person should have handed my son a dipping sauce with a smile and a thank you, in my opinion. My son says the chicken was "ok". My feedback is that everything here is a la carte. Other places I've been to serving this kind of food have combo plates, in which you get the chicken, plus maybe fries and a biscuit or something. And dipping sauces. Bbq Chicken does not offer such a plate at dinner anyway, and maybe they do and we missed seeing it. They have spots in many locations, so they don't need my feedback. We got the honey bbq and galbi flavors for the chicken wings we ordered. Now, the flavor was not the problem but the texture and consistency was. When I've previously had the chicken it's super crunchy and crispy however, this chicken was super fatty! I was unpleasantly surprised by this. I got half & half whole chicken, with secret sauce and original. They were both crispy, and sauce was yummy! Not overly sweet with a touch of tanginess and a bit of chili spice. The friendly cashier said it's his fav. The original crispiness is light, not greasy! (The main reason why these are so good IMHO). Also got sodeuk on the side, which is sausage and rice noodles, that's known as popular street food in Korea. It was soft and chewy. I'm not sure if they were suppose to give sauce for that, but it wasn't in the bag. I just dipped it in secret sauce remains from the box of chicken. Maybe should ask for the sauce for it next time. They also have boba, which I drank in the car on the way home. Peach boba was not too sweet, and refreshing. So happy that Bbq Chicken is now not too far away from home. I placed order for food in person. I asked specific questions about the items before ordering and received answers. I brought the food home and the answers I received were not true. It was dark thigh meat and not chicken tenders. And the quality of the "meat" - what ever it was - was tough and gross. Items were - boneless regular and secret sauce, onion rings, rice, some ranch?? sauce, pickled radish?? In hindsight the meat being bad / not what I was told turned out to be a good thing as I only ate a few pieces and no one else ate any of it. Even from the small amount I ate I got sick. I tried to eat a little but after couple bites of both the "chicken" and the onion rings I felt off and thankfully didn't eat more. I still spent later that night sick with diarrhea and nausea and vomiting and the next 3 days feeling off. Its been 2 weeks and I still can't even look at the website without feeling sick again as even the thought of the smell triggers my gag reflex. And NO it wasn't anything else as I hadn't eaten anything else that day or the day before that could make me sick. I called to ask for a refund and was told they do a "store credit" and the owner would call back. WHY would I want store credit after getting sick??? It was a few days for the owner to respond. And then going back and forth. They refused to speak with me or do a refund. They wanted me to drive to the store and show them the food in person... they claimed it was the corporate policy. I checked with other franchises and that is not the case and HQ said it was not the case. I do still have the food and sent photos. Which is what other locations said they ask for - they DEF dont want customers walking in with a bag of food announcing to the store and customers how it gave them diarrhea and nausea and vomiting. Being lied to about the food was bad, getting sick from the food was worse, and then the awful customer service, blatant lying, and lack of accountability is insult to injury. Buyer beware. It's a "scam" to lie and misrepresenting what the food item is made from and if it makes people sick - provide a refund. Customer service 101. And food safety 101 - the person taking your order, touching the screen, and money should not ALSO be handling the food without hand washing or gloves. AVOID AVOID AVOID. This is one of those "instagram" food places... people post for clicks and free food. It looks "nice" but the quality is not there. The owner was initially very "nice" to make the sale and then lied to make the sale and then lied after when I came back and complained. Tried to claim they told me the "meat" was thigh meat... NOPE because if they had I NEVER would have ordered it it in the first place. The lying and lack or responsibility seems to be the case with other complaints as well - see the guy who found hair in their food said the worker took food off their plate to "taste" it. WTH? Really terrible. Beware if the owner Christina is super "nice" up front - I guess it means they're lying. Please report cases like this to the LA Health Dept (213-240-7821) and BBB. Food costs are too expensive and restaurants are cutting corners wherever they can which is dangerous. And it's too expensive to get sick from. I'm all for supporting small businesses but not at the expense of my health and safety. read more

They even have lunch specials!! All of the staff there are all polite, sweet & caring. I didn't have to wait that long was able to pick up my precious delicious cargo! I would like to say I've tried this restaurant before (Palm Desert, CA) & it's still hands down still my #1 BBQ Chicken Korean! Even if a different location still is amazing wonderfully delicious!!
