Despite having owned and sold two homes prior, we didn't really know where to start with a new construction and we relied heavily on their expertise and advice to get us started and through the process with our builder. I truly believe we had a relatively smooth build due to Mark and Mickie's presence with the builder project managers and sales office. We had so many questions during the build process and both Mark and Mickie were able to answer them quickly and effectively. Their skill also helped us make better informed choices that will ultimately provide us a higher return on our investment. Without the Newman's, I fear we would have not allocated our money optimally towards options and possibly overspent in the wrong areas. Mickie's eye for design, general cost of upgrades and knowledge of what sells a home helped us make the overwhelming fast-paced two-day design center appointments much easier and cost-effective. After our pre-drywall inspection, we had a serious concern brought to our attention and Mark was persistent in getting the matter addressed by the project managers and was able to reach a resolution to ensure our safety. I would never want to build a home without realtor help. There were many instances throughout the process where we wondered, "Is this normal?" and Mark and Mickie were both right there to tell us yes or no, and if no, they followed up on our behalf, which really saved our sanity. Breaking down the numbers, the house was initially listed at $440,000. The appraisal came in at $395,000. We purchased the house for $390,000 PLUS we got the sellers to give us $15,000 in credit to do renovations. Dave saved us $50,000 off the initially listing price and $5,000 off the appraisal price. Plus all of our demo and remodel work was covered from the sellers. Dave was on point coordinating and getting bids from demo guys, contractors, electricians, AC and flooring people. He was getting people in and out, getting estimates and finding us cheap, but quality labor. The numbers alone speak to Dave's work, but the behind the scenes stuff was just as good. Dave was calling and texting me pretty much daily throughout the process answering any questions we had and explaining what needed to happen at each step of process. He is always available even at nights, weekends, etc. To put a cherry on top, Dave got the escrow process expedited so that my wife and I could close on our house yesterday, which was our 2 year wedding anniversary. We were looking to buy a historic home and found Don through the Historic Phoenix website. We had…read morea great time looking at homes with him. He was very honest about most things, and would point out flaws with the homes before we even noticed them. He did keep pressuring me to use "his guy" for financing, even though I already had solid financing lined up elsewhere, so that was a little annoying. He also fed us a couple pieces of wrong information. However, we never felt at any point he was pushing us into buying something. Quite the opposite -- he actually talked us out of a couple homes. He was very helpful... until we actually moved into our home and had a major problem with it. We had a plumbing problem that turned into a nightmare. Our home warranty plan that Don chose for us (without asking us if it was what we really wanted...) would not cover the repair, and we called Don desperately seeking help. Right away he seemed hesitant to help us, but he did end up calling the home warranty people and upgraded our plan and got the repair covered. The nature of the plumbing problem clearly implied that the previous owner of the home knew of this issue and did not disclose it to us. Don agreed with us, and said he would call his "broker" and see what kind of legal action we could take. Suddenly he stopped returning my calls, and my emails were being ignored. I finally got him back on the phone and he told me suddenly my emails ended up in his "spam folder," and he never got them, but he told me he "safelisted" my address. He again told me he'd contact his "broker" and we didn't hear from him again. Emails continued to be ignored as well. He clearly did not want to deal with this and was just brushing us off. He already got his commission, so why bother, right? We have since emailed Don with guidance on a couple things over the past year, and have had no response. Guess it's that pesky "spam folder" again. He did help us get the repair covered in the end, so he gets 2 stars instead of 1, but I would not recommend Don to anyone seeking to buy a home in Phoenix.
