Oh Angie, I had such unbelievable high expectations for you, it almost wasn't fair. Things looked so promising; the basic tacky canteen/cafe decor, cheap paper menus on the walls in Chinese writing, pictures of food in the windows, an unassuming back street location, often empty, but other times full of asian looking people chowing down on some deliciously authentic looking Chinese food...could it be that I had again stumbled upon a new Asia Style in its infancy, when the food was great, cheap and virtually unknown (and most importantly...open)?
Sadly on the basis of this one lunch time visit not, but great potential. Having walked past this place so many times, and not seen or heard a review, I thought I'd check it out. I popped in on my tod, for a random midweek lunchtime visit. The place was pretty empty, save for a lady who came in for some chips and curry takeout and a couple waiting with large suitcases. There are some lunchtime deal menu options, as well as a little folder of photos of other dishes available. Basic photos of food generally never look great unless your a professional and cheat by using WD40 and spray on deodorant and things (seriously, Google food photography cheats), so was not put off and ordered a seafood curry soup type thing of this menu. It wasn't cheap at £8, but it was quite tasty. I have a strong feeling they are capable of better. Maybe the main cook comes in later, or was hungover or having an break.
I hope to see some other yelp reviews of of this place so that I can decide whether to go back and give Angie a second chance...as Jagger sang: Angie, Angie, we can't say we never tried... read more
