We love a good mess at our house, so we knew we had to have her. Renee (the director of the Hillsdale Humane Society) was great. They do not answer their phones (my guess is staffing and volunteers are not plentiful), but when they do pick up, they are more than willing to share all the information they have. Renee told me all about Clem, her sweet personality and even offered to bring her with on Saturday to their adoption event so we could meet her. We agreed. We drove to Hillsdale on Saturday and had our other aussie, Wilhelmina, meet Clementine and we spoke to Renee a little more. Clementine still had one more heartworm treatment on the following Tuesday, so we arranged to pick Clem up on Wednesday afternoon. The application to adopt was a simple two page form, the fee is a straight forward $150 and is completely refundable for 14 days if anything goes wrong. Renee said on the rare chance dogs do get into their new homes and people find personalities don't mesh well, she would rather have people bring the animal back to Hillsdale for a full refund. We left confident that Renee would take good care of Clem until Wednesday and headed back home. On Wednesday we drove back down to Osseo and Clementine was ready to go. The whole process was unbelievably easy and the humane society building itself (we only went into the lobby) was very small, but there was a lovely fenced in outdoor yard and it was very clean. We would adopt from Hillsdale again without hesitation. **We did have Clementine checked out by our own vet on Friday and did discover that she has some fairly serious (and expensive) medical problems that need to be addressed before she can live a normal healthy life. As Clem is a part of our family, we are going to get her the treatment she needs so she can live a healthy and happy life. She is undergoing treatment for serious ear infections and skin infections and then once her heartworm treatment is over she will have surgery. We know she saw a vet multiple times while she was at the humane society and we fully believe her medical issues were overlooked by either an inexperienced or lazy veterinarian. The people at Hillsdale Humane Society are not veterinarians, they are kind people who are doing their very best to help as many animals as possible, so Clem's ignorned medical problems are the fault of the vet who treated her in Hillsdale.**

We got to meet the puppy and play with him in a room before we decided if he was the one for us. They had us pick our puppy up at the vet after he was checked out. That is when we found out he had coccidia and worms. (I guess that is to be expected when all the pets share the same place). It stunk that we got stuck with paying for all the meds before we even got to take him home. Also, they gave us a little gift bag with coupons, treats, and a bag of dog food. The bad part about the food, it was for an older dog (not a puppy) and it was expired. The Humane Society is a great place to get pets, but just be prepared your pet may come with little issues like these.

I only got nervous once I arrived bc the house is hard to find however they are an amish family therefore there are some restrictions to their lifestyle which do not allow them to having a phone therefore they have a assistant that help them and she is very responsive to all questions. I was at Planned Pethood's adoption event at Petco one Sunday. My fiance and I had thrown around…read morethe idea of getting a cat, but I didn't go with the intention of taking one home that day. However, I found a kitten that I fell in love with. I didn't want to make the decision without my fiance meeting the cat first, but he had to work until after the event was going to be over. The kitten had been in the store that past week, so they didn't want to leave him there again, but it was the only way my fiance would meet him. The Planned Pethood staff was wonderful and they ended up letting him stay at the store. I brought the fiance back that night and we took him home. Our kitten is the most wonderful thing in the world. Without Planned Pethood we wouldn't have found him!

It's located downtown so make sure to allow extra time to find parking. I was able to snag a spot right out front and paid through a parking app. All of their cats are vetted and ready to adopt. They have an application online to fill out if you're interested but I don't know how much their fees are. When you walk in, there's a fabulous lobby area with stuff for sale and artwork from a local artist. They also have toys and treats for sale to give to the cats for $2 which is convenient. They make you wait in the lobby for your reserved check in time so if you get there early (like I did) you can hang out in the lobby area until your designated time opens up. The actual cat room is really super cool with tons of decorations and several places to sit. The staff gave us the rundown on the cats and their personalities and each cat has a collar with their name on it so if you're interested you can start the adoption process. Or, if you're like me, talk to the cats and see how their doing. Either way, what a nice little set up. I love supporting non profits like this because for as much as I'd love to house all the cats, that's not an obvious thing I can do. I'm a one cat household myself and don't want to feed the "crazy cat lady" thing anymore then it already has been. It's also a great spot to go hang out with friends for an hour while hanging out in this part of town. Please also check the website since they have specific hours and days they're open. Worth a stop and a visit if you're in the area, whether you want to adopt or not.
