Disappointing for me and a devastating experience for my dogs. My family and I chose the Central Avenue Karnik Pet Lodge to board our beloved 2 and 4yr old lovable boxers as the business advertise that they are passionate about our Pets comfort, safety and contentment, offering many years of experience. The tragedy began upon arrival as the manager Denise refused to greet or introduce our dogs to ANY staff member as we recommend so the dogs are familiar with someone. Denise stated that there are various employees who may interact with them ( she and Savanna was there every day) and further refused. Trusting that they knew best we left for A 5 day vacation. The first phone check, I was informed that the dogs did not eat, second day call, dogs not eating and won't take medications. Rather than problem solve or consider options I was informed that no further attempts to give meds would be offered, the next phone call was the dogs were not welcoming to staff, so no further attemts to walk the dogs would be made, with no options. At this point I'm out of town and very concerned for my dogs. I had to spend many hours of my vacation trying to find someone to rescue my dogs as Savanna and Denise was in communication and offered no assistance just further restrictions progressing to hands off plan as they described my dogs as rigid and growling. leaving the 2 big dogs in a 4x 8 cage with no human contact! I think the dogs were terrified and confused. After frantic persuit I reached someone familiar to go and take my dogs outside and check on them. They were found frightened, withdrawn laying in soiled bedding. My heart was broken at the lack of concern or empathy for our pets. The manager Denise had nothing to offer for assistance. I Had to pay a substantial amout of money to have someone remove my devistated pets and care for them. The final uncaring act was Savanna charged an additional $20 late pick up fee after 1pm, no apology or cocern in any way. THEY Lacked Compassion and in my opinion lacked care or concern for our dogs. I DON'T THINK 1 EMPLOYEE TOUCHED or attempted to comfort OUR DOGS. I understand the need to protect the staff, dogs are animals and frightened dogs may be unpredictable but A bit of empathy and concern for the dogs, listenening to the owner to intoduce the dog and a simple apology may have helped, but I would NOT recommend This facility for boarding my dogs ever again. read more

Review After reading the reviews for Karnik I believed that this was a sufficient daycare for my 1 year old lab to attend to relieve some energy. Watching him on the cameras for the evaluation I began to become concerned on why the dogs did not go outside regularly nor did the employees interact with the pups. They looked bored. I took my dog back for half a day to see if this changed and was extremely uncomfortable with the results. As i was checking in on him during the short 4 hours he was there, I could see he was panting and barking extreme near the gate where they bring dogs in/out...As time went on I continued to check on him being worried, and not once did an employee comfort my dog or try to pet him to make him feel safe. My dog was sniffing another dog and the employee took a white spray bottle and began spraying my dog for sniffing, I never was told this was a possibility for "punishment" nor did I give consent to spray my dog. After this event, my dog was clearly afraid of the employee and began running away from him. The employee in this room was on his phone every time I checked the cameras. I also checked the cameras for the other room and the employee was looking down on their phone walking in circles not paying attention to the dogs. As a pet owner, I left my dog for a few hours of fun thinking that they would be in good care and be loved by other pet lovers. from my experience this is anything but the truth at Karnik on central Avenue. When I picked my dog up and addressed my concerns with the front desk staff, there was no remorse or professionalism other then being told "he has been barking and panting since you dropped off" in my concern of why wasn't i notified that my dog was clearly stressed? I will never take my dog back here. read more

Our vet no longer offers boarding. We tried another area kennel. They offered a temperament test before boarding. Both dogs passed. Dropped dogs off. On the road 3 hours l received a call to pick one dog up. He could not board with them. He started lunging. So head over pick them both up. Now I'm freaking out. Called around and found Karnik Inn. Took a tour. I found the place to be clean and friendly. Karnik offers a "hands free" which was great for my dog. My dog is a loving dog but he can be a little squirrelly. Especially with people he really doesn't know. He could let you pet him and seconds later he could growl at you. He hasn't bitten but I'd rather be cautious when he is around people he doesn't really know. Both dogs came home happy and healthy. One even had a bath at my request. We have used Karnik twice already and will continue to use them! read more

Years ago my Husband used Karnik Pet Lodge without any problems. Last year we had a one year old Lab, in watching the camera a lot of the staff watch their phones more then the dogs. My lab was a active strong puppy, instead of working with him, they put him by himself. They suggested pills to calm him down before he comes, and if he needed medication while in their care they charged to give him the medicine. They charge for everything, best in show, walking, spending time with the dog, you name it they charged. So we have decided to move on, if you have a good experience with them good, but I felt like they were more interested in charging for everything than caring for the dog. Oh, I once saw my dog with maybe 10 other dogs, they had one dog dish they put water in and that was it, when one dog drank all the water that was it for a while, I could not figure out why my Lab would come home so thirsty, now I know. As I said if you love the place I am happy for you, it was just not for us................. read more

I took my cat for an overnight test run of Karnik. I gave explicit instructions both verbally and written, as to the cat's medication dosage and schedule. Karnik's employees administered my cat her medications incorrectly, they overdosed her. I was even charged extra for the improper administration of the medications. Thankfully my cat suffered few ill-effects. The manager/owner of Karnik's did not even offer an apology. I would not trust the staff at Karnik's with an animal with medications. My pets will not be returning. If I could give no stars, I would. read more

I have a crazy Golden Doodle. Without stimulation he likes to eat furniture, trash, walls, shoes...you name it. This winter has been very hard on Toby, so finding something for him to do, safely, to burn some of that puppy energy was a must. I was taking Toby to another Daycare facility in Toledo, and while Toby seemed to love the interaction with other dogs, we did not love the service we received at all. Karnik is worlds different from that other daycare. From the first contact with Karnik we were treated kindly and with responsive and prompt service. The facility on Central Ave is clean and big and airy. I felt instantly comfortable leaving Toby in Karnik's care. It is really fun to watch Toby on the Pet Cams. He is loving playing fetch and rolling around with the other dogs. I like how I was encouraged to call and check on him during the day. The daycare workers really look like they enjoy their jobs and the time they have with the dogs. Toby gets treated well, I get treated well and at the end of the day I can feel good about my decision to take Toby to daycare. Its a win for all. I am really glad I switched to Karnik. read more

We take our cat to Karnik when we are out of town. It is pricy, but she has to have her medicine and the place we used before wasn't good at giving it to her. Karnik medicates her according to directions. It is very clean there and the cats aren't in wire cages. They also provided a cardboard box for her to lie in. The people there are friendly and easy to deal with. read more

Nice staff. Pretty decent size interior. I like how they have Cams you can log onto and watch your pups. But they outside area is relatively small to play around in and the inside area is just solid concrete with zero dog beds for your pup to lay on. The lack of dog beds is what got to me the most. That and the one money looking toy for them to climb on. read more

Have used Karnik a few times for one of our dogs....We actually just switched from Karnik because of their prices. They do not offer an all inclusive boarding and daycare fee like some of the other local daycare and boarding facilities. To board our dog and add daycare was approximately $44 dollars which is about 12 dollars higher than where we started taking her. I will say the staff at Karnik always seemed friendly and welcoming but I can't justify the price considering most of their facility consist of cages and not private suites. Our new provider has private suites and not cages which I find important for our family pet. I would be okay with their price if they suites and facility was updated. read more

Many years ago we used Karnik regularly for boarding our dogs, but in recent years we've switched to a place with more reasonable rates that we like much better. Last week, however, the only option we had was Karnik, so we boarded our lab there for 6 days. Within hours of picking him up, it was evident he had kennel cough. We called to tell Karnik about it and there was no apology of any kind; it was simply thanks-for-letting-us-know. The drop-off had also been a bit disconcerting.... Our lab is a healthy 8-year-old, yet the registration questions included how to dispose of the body if he'd happen to pass during the stay!! ---- The following is an edit to my original post: A few hours after posting the review above, Karnik called to apologize and offered to pay the vet bill for the kennel cough. Having never used Karnik we called and talked to Andy to get information on Boarding and pet care. We have a 4 month old Samoyed and wanted him to get some needed socialization. We also mentioned to Andy that we plan to show our dog in the future She said there was a restriction that dogs not fixed after 6 months can not be in their dog population which, (is understandable). We were ok with that and we went to the Toledo facility for a tour with Andy. Every thing was great and we arranged for an appointment for an evaluation and they would introduce our dog to the daycare population one by one to make sure he was accepted. We are in agreement to all of this. We were then asked to first fill out an online application which I did. Sharon followed up the application and asked to give her a call. I left her a message the next morning, (no return call). On the day of the appointment I thought I'd better call to confirm because I never heard from her. Sharon answered and said she never received my message but wanted to reiterate every thing that Andy told us on the phone and on our tour. She went on to discuss her concern because we wanted to possibly show our dog that in the past they had a dog (that had been shown) get scared from an altercation at their facility. I told her I was ok and that things like that happened, I went on to say it sounds like you don't want to watch our dog. She went on to say no that is not the case I just want to make sure of and ok with the above, (risks). I again said I understand. And finally, she said they look forward to our visit and make sure I brought my dogs shot record. I said OK and I will see you soon. Well, I got to the Toledo facility and Sharon met me at the front desk and introduced me to Ray who was defined as the owner. Ray went on to say that their insurance does not allow them to care for show dogs, I said are you saying you are not going to watch my dog, he said yes, I turned around and walked out the door, I was furious. 3 days and several hours wasted. I'm sure Ray will respond to this review with all kinds of excuses and apologies but this whole experience is totally unprofessional and unacceptable and I highly recommend you not use this company. read more

Took my dogs there for a fun day of daycare. That was not the case. Picked them up only to be greeted by the girl at the front desk with immediate negativity. I was told my girls had a rough morning. When asked to elaborate I was given little detail. Both dogs have been to daycare (not here and never again here) and have been praised at their behavior. I was told they were acting aggressive and protective (not how either of my dog temperaments are EVER!!) when I asked her to explain more she just went on to tell me that had a great rest of the day. Hmm? I was baffled to say the least. I'd love to know what happened to my dogs that day they spent there. Both of them were out of sorts that whole evening. They were not the usual happy girls I know and love. Instead they were both, best described as depressed. I've never seen them this way, especially after a FUN day at daycare (that's why I take them!) both dogs walked around with their tails tucked and generally unhappy. I have no idea what happened to them while they were there and at this point it really doesn't matter. They will never be subjected to that place again. They are like my children and I won't expose them to that miserable environment again. They attended a different daycare today and when I picked them up, guess what!!!???? Both of them were spoken about wonderfully with affection and they were both the happy go lucky gals I love! They're resting comfortably now and in great spirits. My recommendation to anyone considering this place would be to consider another facility only a few miles south of there. They will come back a happy dog instead of miserable. Also, I'd recommend training your front desk gal on proper etiquette speaking to prospective clients in the future. We don't pay that kind of money to be greeted with a negative remark right off the bat. If you want repeat clients, I'd definitely educate your front desk on how to speak with new clients that could generate a lot of revenue in the future. My dog, Artie has been going to Karnik for over 4 years, both Doggie Day Care and Boarding. He absolutely LOVES IT! When I call to arrange Day Care for the day, he immediately gets excited and waits at the door to go! Recently, I had the opportunity to tour the facility at their open house. I could not believe how NICE it was! It was more equipped, more staffed and more CLEAN than most Children's Day Care Facilities! All the Animals are truly SPOILED and given individual attention even as part of the large group! My only complaint is the medication charge when boarding. Artie has recently been diagnosed with Canine Diabetes and requires insulin injections twice a day. If he was still being boarded overnight, I would be being charged $9.00 an injection or $18.00/day for him just to get medication! While I truly loved boarding Artie at Karnik, I cannot afford the medication charge in addition to the boarding and day care expenses. However, if your dog isn't diabetic, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the boarding as well! Overall, THANK YOU for taking care of Artie! :) **Revised Review** -I made a mistake in my previous review (above). I misquoted the injection charge and was much relieved to find out the charge is ACTUALLY HALF of the amount described above! While Karnik, overall, is more expensive than some other Kennel Facilities in Toledo. I feel it is MORE THAN WORTH THE EXPENSE, because of the services given and care received at EVERY SINGLE VISIT! I had an absolutely horrible time both times I've taken my pet to karnik. My dog is very much my baby and the way that they treat their customers does not make it seem like they treat their pets like that. When I walked in there was two managers at the front counter complaining about their staff and being short-staffed which is extremely unprofessional for my first time going there. Then I don't think their manager Britney so much to even cracked a smile the whole time she was checking me in I thought the staff at pups Paradise was rude but boy was I wrong. I should have known after I called it was kept on the phone for way too long hearing a bunch of crap that I have seem to believe which now I believe is not true in the general care of pets there. While my dog was there I checked in on the webcam several times several times throughout the day I see multiple dogs mounting each other almost continuously they had an afternoon staff member who is on her phone most of her shift on and off which is extremely unprofessional a few of the days they were even dogs separated into all the different pens but they weren't even playing. So if you want to be overcharged and treated rudely then take your pets to karnik otherwise I would suggest going somewhere else. A smile on the person who checks you in face would make a huge difference. read more
