AWITP is much more than just a boarding kennel. Dirk also offers day care, grooming, obedience training, and a couple times per week, he and his staff will take the dogs for an actual walk in one of the actually metro parks. The facility was built with dogs in mind...before it was A Walk In The Park, the building was the home of the Toledo Area Humane Society. The building is more than large enough, and the yard is even bigger. The staff is awesome...just plain awesome. You can tell that every single person working here really loves dogs, and the dogs, at least my dog, seems to love all of them. We recently left our puppy here when we weren't able to take him with us on vacation. My wife, who still does Facebook (LOL), logged in daily to see videos and pix of the pack including our boy, so she and the kids (and me too, I guess) felt connected. When we got home and went to pick him up, he was happy to see all four of us, but he didn't want to leave...I guess dogs really are pack animals. We also utilize doggie daycare a couple time per week. As far as pet safety goes, and I might not have this exactly right, but I think the dogs are grouped by age and size. That is, the large breed puppies are kept together, and the small breed puppies are keep together. The large breed adults are kept together...etc. In other words, you don't have to worry about your chihuahua pup getting eaten by a Doberman. Great business, and great location. I have been taking my dog to AWITP for a little over 3years for day care, boarding, and grooming and I couldn't be happier (more importantly my dog couldn't be happier)! Dirk is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about dogs. The dogs are engaged physically, mentally and socially while in their care. They are never stuck in a kennel for the day. At night the dogs sleep in bedrooms together with a staff member present at all times. His staff is top notch - friendly, reliable, and well educated on dog handling. We've been bringing our labrador here since she was old enough to go. She absolutely LOVES it here. When we say daycare in the house she freaks out and cannot wait to get into the car because she knows exactly where we are going. She does daycare overnight stays and grooming. They did have to increase their prices in 2022 which I'm not surprised about just due to inflation and covid. I unfortunately have never seen inside the facility since we started bringing her in 2020. They do curbside drop off and pick up which is convenient. We did have a mix up one time where they have our dog to someone else and tried to give us someone else's dog which I recognized was not ours but they were able to get ahold of the other owner who brought them back. I was thinking they would have comped that day for us due to the mix up but when my husband called they said they didn't do that. They also have a newer policy where you have to do a atleast a half day of daycare every 2 weeks to stay up to date on their temperaments for group placement which I understand but I'd rather have her out and at home with me if she doesn't need to go. Half days are also 4 hours but you have to bring them at a specific time not when it's convenient for you. They are strict with their vaccine travel and fecal testing but she did get a bad cough for about 2 weeks last summer and I had to keep her home so she gave it to our other dog. They do everything through an online poetal which is convenient and easily accessavle. I wouldn't consider leaving my dogs with anyone but Dirk. His passion for providing a different approach to dog day care , boarding , training etc..... is apparent. He is extremely careful about screening pups for disease. Vet records , of course , and they aren't allowed on the premises for 2 weeks if they have been to another facility in an abundance of caution. He is very knowledge about dog body language, play styles , training etc... every employee has ongoing education about this also. Dogs are monitored carefully and placed into play groups based on play style as well as size. There are fun pools, tunnels and play equipment for them. And if you do board your dog he is not locked up alone in a kennel. There is a large room with a big human bed. Someone ( usually Dirk ) stays there and all the dogs find a spot on one of the many cozy dog bed or some share the bed with Dirk. read more

Can't say enough about A Walk in the Park. This is an open concept facility where the dogs are separated into groups by size and are allowed to run free in spacious play yards filled with sandboxes. pools and play houses. At night they sleep in beds, cots, mats or wherever they feel comfortable. Someone is with them 24/7. Dirk and the staff are amazing with the attention and care they give the dogs. We just need to show our dog her leash and she knows she's off to daycare. When we bring GracieJane home after a play date she is toast! AWITP is a great doggie day care. Dirk, the owner and all the staff really care about each pet. They keep the little dogs separated from the big dogs. In addition to daycare they also have grooming, boarding and training classes. On Sundays, before the pandemic, everyone was invited to join them for weekly walks in a metro park. This place is fantastic. First off, it's the largest doggie daycare place I've ever seen. They have huge indoor and outdoor spaces for your pup to run and play. I've sent my dog here for boarding multiple times and I love the fact that they do no kennel the dogs at all. My pup is always exhausted but happy when I pick him up. Dirk even said he slept in bed with him once (typical for my dog)! They also have great flexible hours and reasonable prices. My seeet boy stayed at WITP for 41/2 days. I checked on him on day 2 and was told all was well. When I picked him up his snout had abrasions on it (dried blooded scabs) and his top jaw was beet red. No one knew what happened. When or how. Dirk called and asked what do you think happened. I said you tell me. He defended himself and staff and never apologized that my Teddy got hurt. Teddy was immediately seen by his vet and but on antibiotics His last response to me was I guess we are not a good fit for you‍ Honesty was all I wanted. My heart still hurts for my boy read more
