This is the go to spot for donuts in The Dalles. Love the meat and cheese filled items they have and the danishes

I recently stopped by here for a few pastries: a huckleberry Danish, and a jalapeno bacon cream cheese bread. The ambiance was like, the last shop left standing in a messy ghost town. Hastily decorated. Clean, but nowhere near sterile. The clerk seemed irritated that I walked in, like I was keeping her from something more important. So, I tried to order fast. I was a little peeved that I very clearly asked for a specific Danish, and she just kind of pretended not to hear me and very quickly threw a different Danish in the bag and gave me an irritated look and said, "Anything else?" Um... They were both huckleberry Danishes, but the one she gave me had like a third as much fruit as the one I specifically requested. Whatever. "You don't have any ham and jalapeno rolls or anything like that, do you?" "I'm sold out of that one, but I do have a bread filled with cream cheese and bacon and jalapenos." I took that. The jalapeno bacon cream cheese bread was amazing. The fillings were pretty standard, but the bread itself was phenomenal. Other reviewers have mentioned that the head chef is a classically trained pastry chef. It really showed in this bread. This bread was as good as the bread from my favorite bakeries in San Francisco. Top tier. I could probably eat a little loaf of it every day. It definitely would have been better heated up a little bit, since the cream cheese was all in a cold block on one side of the bread. But it was still really good. The Danish was decent. It definitely tasted very blueberry-y--- I'm not sure if I can tell the difference between regular blueberries vs huckleberries. Overall, it was about as good as a fresh store-bought Danish from Costco. It didn't necessarily taste home-made to me, but the website states that everything is made home-made and from scratch, so I guess it was. But it tasted kind of commercial. The total was around $9, which I thought was high considering the quality of the Danish and the amount of fillings. But prices are high in 2025... c'est la vie. read more

Nice surprise. Somehow we'd never noticed this bakery, but very glad we found it. Grabbed a donut, a raspberry turnover, and a cream cheese & jalapeño stuffed bread for breakfast. The cake donut was soft, fresh and not overly sweet...but the other 2 were the standouts. We loved the flavor and uniqueness of the bread. And the turnover was one of the best and flakiest I've probably ever had. Service was adequate and the place is tiny with a couple of tables inside. The black coffee was average, but glad they offered. Yummy pastries! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and wanting a tasty treat! read more

Get here early if you want variety or have a favorite! They sell out fast because everything is delicious and affordable. On a recent Saturday at noon, it was slim pickings. Just a few donuts and cookies remained. No jalapeño bread! Will have to arrive much earlier next time as the jalapeño bread stuffed with cream cheese, bacon, and of course, jalapeños, is amazing! The perfect savory breakfast with a cup of coffee, Heaven! Ended up with a palmier cookie (they call it Elephant ear but it is the typical French palmier, not the state fair elephant ear) and it was light, flaky and just slightly sweet. Perfect. Also picked up two molasses cookies which for some reason are shaped like a pig! Really good! Two butter cookies with sprinkles which we didn't realize were actually 2 massive cookies with jam sandwiched in between. And a chocolate donut with vanilla creme inside. They do not take credit cards but that is not a problem. The grand total for all of the items purchased was $6.60! What? Crazy good. As a comparison, we had stopped at The Dalles Farmers Market and one tiny cookie was $2 and a scone was $4. Of course I will always support the local farmers market but if you are seeking value and quality, Mike's Bakitchen is the place, just get there early for the best selection. A must stop by whenever I'm in The Dalles. My favorites are anything with the Bavarian cream filling, it melts in your mouth. Did you know Angel is a classically trained pastry chef? He cut his teeth at Skamania Lodge and now lends his expertise to bring his gourmet quality pastries to the town folk at a reasonable price! The strudel is the perfect balance of flakey and crisp. We wanted donuts and coffee. This place isn't really a coffee place but rather donuts and mexican pastries. Their coffee looks like it is black or with cream and/or sugar. We did get some donuts and a pastry that was stuffed with bacon, cream cheese with jalapenos. My husband was concerned with cream cheese it and thought it should be refrigerated. Stopped through here on the way through the Dalles and the donuts were delicious and cheap! We got a chocolate coconut cake donut, lemon meringue, and cherry filled for around $3. We will definitely be coming back next time we pass through town! read more

My Husband and I were just in town for my Birthday and passed by this bakery. I told him that before we left, I HAD to check it out. So we explored, and then before we headed out... we stopped by. I walk in and I was pleasantly surprised! Sooo many different choices and colors were in front of me! They all looked so delicious and there was even some cake making/decorating going on behind the counter! The place was clean and inviting, but no labels. No biggie... they'd probably have a knowledgeable, friendly individual at the counter that I could ask, right?!? Wrong. It was all so inviting and everything looked so well done-and delicious! I wanted to know what I was looking at so that I could buy them out (lol) and take some home to the familia! The girl at the counter was anything but friendly and was borderline rude when I asked what something was and how much. I bought a maple bar, some cookies (no idea what they were because she wasn't willing to ask herself), some doughnuts and a cream cheese/jalapeño pastry. You guys, they were absolutely delicious and despite the lack of customer service, I gave them 4 stars and will go back, hoping by then they've read my review and got someone friendly to handle the customers!!! This is angels now.... and I just moved to town this the pàn was really good I got one of each just to try. Even squeezed a cake doughnut glazed. But on the way out he recommended this cream cheese bacon jalapeño stuffed bread (not sure what it's called but it was so good! I wanted to drive back down for another. And of course I will be back. Bakitchen is a solid traditional bakery with all the expected favorites to be found in a local rural store. Amazingly awesome doughnuts, friendly staff. I love stopping by here. The only downside is they don't take credit/debit cards.

Delicious donuts for a great price! I highly recommend the cinnamon rolls and apple fritters. I am very picky when it comes to bakeries because my hometown bakery was voted the best donut shop in Minnesota and they deserved it! I have yet to find anything that compares until I went to Mike's. Had Tim Hortens in North Dakota, and Voodoo and Blue Star donuts in Portland. Both were okay but wouldn't matter to me if I went back for seconds. Mike's accepts credit cards now, I noticed the comment below saying they didn't in 2013 but now they do which is great! The staff is very nice and friendly. read more
