    Molasses cookies shaped like pigs
    Kim G.

Get here early if you want variety or have a favorite! They sell out fast because everything is delicious and affordable. On a recent Saturday at noon, it was slim pickings. Just a few donuts and cookies remained. No jalapeño bread! Will have to arrive much earlier next time as the jalapeño bread stuffed with cream cheese, bacon, and of course, jalapeños, is amazing! The perfect savory breakfast with a cup of coffee, Heaven! Ended up with a palmier cookie (they call it Elephant ear but it is the typical French palmier, not the state fair elephant ear) and it was light, flaky and just slightly sweet. Perfect. Also picked up two molasses cookies which for some reason are shaped like a pig! Really good! Two butter cookies with sprinkles which we didn't realize were actually 2 massive cookies with jam sandwiched in between. And a chocolate donut with vanilla creme inside. They do not take credit cards but that is not a problem. The grand total for all of the items purchased was $6.60! What? Crazy good. As a comparison, we had stopped at The Dalles Farmers Market and one tiny cookie was $2 and a scone was $4. Of course I will always support the local farmers market but if you are seeking value and quality, Mike's Bakitchen is the place, just get there early for the best selection. Especially on weekends.

    Chocolate coconut cake donut

Stopped through here on the way through the Dalles and the donuts were delicious and cheap! We got a chocolate coconut cake donut, lemon meringue, and cherry filled for around $3. We will definitely be coming back next time we pass through town!

They were out of everything by the time we came here but thankfully- they had the Huckleberry pie waiting for me when I got here, so can't wait to dive into it. Never had a bad huck pie and this one looks like gonna be very delicious!

    Assortment of baked goods.

Picked up an assortment of savory and sweet yesterday to try this bakery out--everything I've tasted has been delicious! Currently, I'm enjoying a ham, cheese, and jalapeño pastry with my morning coffee and wished I'd gotten 2! Give em a try instead of just getting a prepackaged, thawed, microwaved item with your morning coffee from big chain locations.

This is the go to spot for donuts in The Dalles. Love the meat and cheese filled items they have and the danishes

Excellent baked goods! Best donuts in town. We ordered a carrot cake for a co-workers birthday which was excellent.

Pastries were okay, very rude people. Not the best I've had at all. Seems like things are not baked there. New owners . Wasn't impressed.

Amazingly awesome doughnuts, friendly staff. I love stopping by here. The only downside is they don't take credit/debit cards.

This place has tons of them, basically all of their products, all on a table right in front of the store. Before even taking a step inside, I had basically filled myself with jams, butters, and pickles! We ended up only buying an empanada on this trip, although I was sorely tempted at filling my entire pantry with their jams and jellies, not to mention their pies... If only we had a cooler with us... Huckleberry Empanada ($6.50) - Their huckleberry jam is the best of the ones I've tried. Other places in Oregon, on the Fruit Loop and off, have a dried fruit kind of taste or lean musty in flavor. This one has full bodied huckleberry flavor that's quite fresh. It may be due to them using a different variety of huckleberry? Anyways, it's filled inside an expertly baked outer crust that holds the filling in well and adds some buttery crisp, pie crust like texture. I really enjoyed my visit to Packer Orchards & Bakery. Out of the 7 or 8 stops we made on the Fruit Loop, this, along with their farm location, ended up being my favorite by far.

They had a lot of jelly, jam, pickled, salsa, and other tasty samples outside and inside the store. If you go further in, they have seasonal fruit smoothies and fruit milkshakes (peach). Because Want Donut is a stand at the Hood River farmers market and are made in small batches, the donuts are on the pricy side, especially if you want to pick up a dozen to share. I thought they would be the biggest, baddest tent in the market, because after all, they're pedaling donuts here - not knickknacks and arts and crafts! However, their display is rather unassuming with just the one sandwich board sign. As for my rating, I wish I could give them 4.5, maybe 5 stars, but at $2-3 a piece, it's hard for me to give them that extra star. At $2-3, their donuts are not grocery store cheap, but not Portland's Blue Star $3+ too expensive. And I realize this is a farmers market and a small business, but I just feel like $1.25-$1.75 is more appropriate. As for the donuts, they are extrmely good! Unlike Kickstand's poor excuse for donuts, these are light and airy, the appropriate size, and sweet, but not too sweet. The variety and selection are just right. To quote my mother-in-law's text I just received after she stopped by our house on her Vancouver to Boise roadtrip, "We just finished off our to-go donuts.... yum! The chocolate frosting was very good! I think those are some of the best donuts we've ever had! " I forsee a brick and mortar location in their future!

Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. She did it without us even asking which was so sweet! The food came out so quickly too despite the entire restaurant being full. Great experience here at Bette's!

Breakfast plates were great with many options to choose from. I had the burger one night for dinner and it was well prepared and very tasty. Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon! Service was great and love that the girl at the counter asked me if I was doing anything fun today - extra friendliness goes a long way!
