The Dalles was still asleep when we pulled up at 5am on a road trip. All but the barrista, that is! She was cheerful and efficient. I loved my breve, which really highlighted the quality Stumptown beans they use. My husband tried the Mexican Mocha. He said it was fine but too sweet & strong with cinnamon syrup. Next time he said he would get the plain mocha. Because yes! There will be a next time! We were glad Grinders was open. Not much else was at that time of morning! Grinders is our go to spot for coffee as we live at that end of town coffee is good. It used to be better maybe they switched coffee brands IDK but still great! The staff is great and they always make us feel welcome we appreciate this place for warm drinks and cold! the blended vanilla chai is one of our favorites! I thought they use DCR coffee? Perfect first experience at Grinders Coffee yesterday, (Sunday). We had enjoyed another great visit at Jim's, and I asked where we could find good coffee. Without any hesitation, we were recommended to go to Grinders. It was excellent. The service at the window was friendly and engaging and the Stumptown coffee was so tasty. What a cute coffee stand with easy drive through! Lots of unique coffee drinks. The s'more sounded amazing but I was afraid I would like it too much! It's loaded with brown sugar and marshmallows. Maybe next time and I'll only drink half! Got a nin fat Mexican Mocha instead and it was so good, perfectly spiced. In addition to drinks, they have lots of treats. They sell stroopwaffles but theirs are called Rip Van Wafels. Very thin waffle cookies with caramel sandwiched in between. Scones, muffins and other treats, too. Friday August 2. Came here for the first time today. Ordered a few drinks that were all good. we got a white chocolate peanut butter blend n bean drink and it is soooo good. The girl working was nice too. We will be back Updated review. We came back on Sunday evening, 2 days after our first visit, there were 2 different girls working from previous visit. We ordered the exact same drink and it wasn't as good :( more on the runny side with slush ice, kinda like a iced drink that was hardly blended. Stumptown coffee is served at Grinders and it's one of my favorites. Employees are very friendly and helpful, taking great care in getting orders right, remembering regulars and semi-regulars. Prices are good and completely in line with other coffee places. They also have a small lobby for walk up customers, which is nice if you need hardware from True Value or the window lines are long. read more

I really wanted to love this place. It had a great rating and we were passing through town and were excited to try this place. Ordered 2 - 20 oz mochas and 1 - 16 oz. vanilla latte. All were hot. The 20 oz were supposed to have 4 shots. The taste was just blah! I also told them all were supposed to be made with whole milk. Pretty sure the 20 oz drinks were 2 percent cause they tasted bland and watery. The 16 oz had whole milk but no flavor too! I am not a professional barista but am pretty sure the espresso beans were not ground fine enough to get that rich strong espresso taste. They were also training people and not sure if they just didn't know how to made an espresso! Will not be back again. We left a good tip too! read more

I'm addicted! I have only really ordered one drink over and over to be honest. The vanilla Italian creme soda. Which is so delicious! Some people know how to make them well and this is one of those places. I love that you drive thru here but you don't talk to a speaker, you have face to face communication on what you would like to order. Yes it takes a little longer because they can't make your order until you get to the window...but totally worth it. Every staff member that I have had contact with so far has been very friendly as well as upbeat. I would go here everyday if I could. I need to venture outside my Italian soda fix and try one of their coffees. As soon as I do I will update my review. Everything else still rings true! Pretty much my go to coffee place in TD. Starbucks is fine, Dutch bros is solid as well, however, in my opinion, Grinders has them both beat, easily. First of all, the staff is local, hometown girls who are cute, friendly and fun. Secondly Stumptown coffee (I believe that's their supplier) is outstanding.
