I keep going back and each time it gets worse. Nail tech told me I was fat and my nails should be almond shaped to make my fingers look skinnier. She shaped all my nails so short they hurt and after a day the gel is chipped. Pedicure just as bad but what did I think since it only took 15 minutes start to finish. read more

Probably going to stick with going to Metro Nails and will not likely return to Angell Nails. First, my friend had made an appointment for the two of us (acrylic refill for her, gel manicure for me), and she was running late, so I asked to wait until she arrived so that we could get our nails done at the same time. Initially they said they would accommodate my request, but then the manager asked me to get started so that they could serve walk-ins (in terms of efficient allocation of staff time, I understand it doesn't make sense for a technician to not be working when they could be doing my nails). Well, it turns out that my manicure was done before my friend even got to the salon! I sat by her while she got her refill so that we could chat, but it irked me that they had me get started when there was not a significant rush of customers once my friend had arrived. As for the manicure itself, the technician was clearly a perfectionist, but she kept twisting and contorting my wrist at awkward angles so that my nail would be in the right position for her to paint. She also left no room between the cuticle and where the polish started, which led to lifting at the base of my nail beds after a week. I love the color I got and, it's gel, so there were no scratches or chips for more than two weeks, but my overall customer experience makes me less than inclined to come back. read more

Really upset about my recent manicure. I got a dip color for the first time and my nails looked like they already had grown out a week at the end of the manicure. I mentioned that the color was so far from my cuticle and hoped Makara would do something to make it right but she didn't. She is normally a good tech but I was really unhappy with how they looked and she didn't fix them or compensate on the price in any way, knowing that this manicure which is supposed to last 3 weeks would have me back in 1. So I returned exactly 1 week later, nails looking super grown out and one had even broken in the first 5 days... Manager Lily did nothing to fix the issue except charge me full price for a new gel manicure. I'd been a loyal customer of Bachara's there for years but she's out on maternity leave right now and I'm sorry to say I won't even be going back there when she returns because I feel so cheated. Bottom line, just don't do the dip. I used to come here a decent amount but don't anymore. I don't recommend their pedicures as I never felt like my feet were any softer after them. The only techs I remember really liking were two of the younger girls. I never felt comfortable asking for more intricate nail art here because I don't think they could do it. There were a lot of up charges and in general the prices were a little too high for me to justify continuing coming here. Mini-update: although my dip manicure was bad, my gel pedicure is still looking fresh 5+ weeks in with no chips. ----------------- I've come here on and off over the years and have until this week had good experiences for regular and gel polish. However, I recently went for a dip manicure and either the base layer was misapplied or the product went bad bc the polish came off like a fake nail after only one day. I went back a few days later to show what happened bc dip should last 3 weeks, and the owner (I think) took off the polish using her sanding tool, not acetone, and reapplied the dip. Unfortunately, I now have moisture bubbles in the polish that raise it, I'm thinking bc they instructed me to wash my hands after sanding, which I never had to do at other salons. The dip service they have here is less expensive than other nail shops I've been to in the area, but unfortunately the quality wasn't there for that upgrade service. I'll still come here for regular manicures and gel, but I'm not coming back for dip polish. Disappointing, tho they did try to make it right. I just don't have time to deal with rushed and poor work from 2 different ppl for a dip manicure over the course of 3 days. read more

WORSTTTTTT nail salon in Providence everrrr. I used to go here all the time where I became a regular. I would always get a fill and a pedicure and my total would come to around $50-$60. I came online on a Saturday (per usual) and was given a nail tech. She was a bit on the older side and I told her I wanted to do my fill with my regular pedicure. In the middle of my pedicure, she looked up and asked me if I wanted to add all of the extra stuff and I looked at her and said no and she continued. When I went to go pay, she told me my total was $78. I was like "WHATT?!? What'd you mean $78?!" And she proceeds to tell her co-worker that she did all the extra stuff on my toes after I had EXPLICITLY told her not to because I was not paying more than my usual. Sad part is, I had to pay it and I looked at them and SWORE I would never step foot in that place again because of their horrible customer service. They blamed me for not stopping her while she was supposedly doing all the "extra" stuff when I didn't know she was even doing it after I said no. I now go to ZNails on Wickenden St and took my 2 bestfriends with me and haven't looked back since then. read more

I went there twice and did not have a good experience either time. The first time, I just got a pretty bad manicure. The second time, I was clear that I am very allergic to acetone and brought my own. I asked the person specifically to remove any acetone from the location where she was doing my nails. She said yes and then proceeded as the first step to take acetone to remove extra polish from my nails. She apologized (but made me feel that I had overreacted), nobody else from the salon came to say anything, and then asked for payment. The manicure was not great the second time either. I have a beautiful manicure and a fabulous pedicure because I went to Angell Nails. My nails are perfectly perfect - the color, the length, the shape. I couldn't be happier with the results. Add to that the free wifi and the super-sweet women who work here, and you've got a great little salon. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon to find a very busy, bustling little salon - college students and older women alike filled the chairs and all looked completely content and relaxed. I was told there would be a short wait, which lasted for about five minutes and was then directed to one of the pedi chairs where my feet soaked in a tub of warm, bubbling water for a few moments before Suquon came over and started working. While the outdated decor is a bit beat-up and drab and the space was sloppy with bottles of polish forgotten on every single surface, I didn't mind it as much as the fact that when I saw one of the other technicians clean out the foot spa, it wasn't what I would consider thorough in any way. I was a tad grossed out, in fact. Also the salon is filled with the stifling odor of acetone, polish and fake nails - it was very toxic-smelling and almost unbearable. I wish they would install proper ventilation or at least open the door (it was a beautiful, warm and sunny day). I came in to Angell Nails on a very quiet Monday morning. I was able to be serviced immediately after letting them know I wanted a pedicure. I have nothing glaringly negative to say but I've been going to this salon for 10 years now and it has slowly decreased in quality and service. My pedicure felt short and a bit rushed even though I was one of three people getting serviced and two nails techs were hanging out on their phones. Speaking of, they had their phone conversations and the videos they were watching on speaker (loudly) so the environment wasn't very relaxing. Overall, just an OK experience. read more

Two days after I got acrylics here, 4 of them broke off. Worst nail experience I have ever had. My friends who went with me are also experiencing their acrylics falling off. Called for a pedicure appointment the day before. Got booked for 10:10AM as they open up at 10AM on Sundays but don't start taking clients until then. I showed up exactly on time and there were already 3 clients in the chairs and 2 clients waiting to be taken. There was one person working who was frantically answering the phone while trying to tend to the clients in the pedicure chairs. The 'wax girl' rushed in the front entrance to start her shift and didn't even wash her hands or get settled. She threw on a face mask and began taking nail polish off of a client. It was 10:19 and still no acknowledgement. And no air conditioning on a 90 degree day. I had my 'fill' (no pun intended) so I walked out. Not sure what was worse...the cleanliness of the space and the staff, the poor customer service, the temperature in the space or the lack of care in general. I will never return. Wow! So surprised there are so few reviews of Angell Nails here. I've frequented nail salons all over the country (and actually, internationally), and most of all in Rhode Island, and this is still hands down my favorite salon. A lot of people might look for different things in a salon, but I do not like to schmooze or banter while getting my nails done. I look for attentiveness, efficiency, skilled staff, cleanliness, and a solid, long-lasting manicure. What is it not? It is NOT the fancy schmancy, highly polished place that you go with your girlfriends to get pampered at. It is NOT a place you'd host a bachelorette pre-party at. It is NOT a place where you can go with 4 friends and all get side-by-side simultaneous pedicures on a walk-in basis (though I do like a place where I can do that). There is a good reason why this is one of the only salons I've been to that regularly has a significant wait time for walk-ins. It ranges from 10-30 minutes (which is why it's difficult to make it an outing with girlfriends- it's tough for them to squeeze even two people in simultaneously). They have fiercely loyal customers who always go back, and the place always seems bustling with business. But they never turn you away as long as you are willing to wait! All the women who work there are very good. Lily, the owner, is always there doing nails right along with the rest of her staff. She is also the one who does the waxing (they offer the standard stuff with nails, including shellac and gel. They have basic facial waxing). They are efficient, attentive, and for some reason my manicures there always seem to last longer than the ones elsewhere. I have gotten mani/pedis and waxing. I like that they are not pushy- they take their time, NEVER EVER try to push extras on you like upgrading to a spa mani/pedi or whatever, never tack on extra charges, and when I am waiting for my nails to dry I don't feel like they are tapping their feet hoping I'll leave or pay soon. I've even been there waiting for my nails to dry after they close- even though I'll try to rush to leave, Lily will wave it off and tell me to stay a while to make sure I don't mess up the manicure. The prices are the lowest I've seen in Providence (12 dollars for a basic manicure). If they know you're a student, they'll knock a dollar off the price! They do have notices posted that they can only take cash tips, so I try to have cash on hand whenever I can, but actually I've never had a problem adding the tip onto the credit card amount. Lily is great with the waxing- efficient and conservative with the brow shaping, which is what I like. The wax is a good temperature (have had experience with other poorly trained aestheticians at salons that leave the dreadful burns under both brows). The back waxing room isn't the most attractive, so don't expect pristine rooms. I would not knock this place down a star for this, mostly because I'm sick of going to salons that look nice but do a crappy job. You can tell they spend most of their energy and time doing a great job on nails, rather than looking spruced-up but failing to deliver. There is even a small elliptical in the bathroom...the place seems pretty lived-in rather than starched. The staff all seem happy, and there seems to be zero turn over- I can always count on seeing the same faces when I go, which usually is a good indicator to me of a fair, well-run business. And this translates to happy customers. :) Anyway, bottom line is that it's a great place to get your nails done with unbeatable prices, service, and results. Yay! read more

You're not getting your top treatment here but your still paying its price. There gel pedi was $45 and the place isn't no high class salon I usually pay about $35 for a gel pedi. They just try to rush you threw and get to the next costumer. We came on a random Wednesday so I didn't expect to be treated that way. Customer service is so friendly. I always get a manicure and pedicure. I get acrylic nails and they last for so long. Before I started getting acrylic I would do a gel manicure andwhen my gel would chip they would fix it right away because my nails just don't stick well with gel or the dip so I really appreciate them touching up my nails whenever I needed them. They also would suggest when I need to take a break from Gel so my nails would rest. Overall great service and facility. read more

A perfectly "polished" place. I'm one of Lily's biggest fans--Angell Nails is immaculate, professional, and pleasant. Discounts on Tuesdays, reduced pricing for students, and general affordability have made me a consistent customer. They do just about everything, and do it well--they have the latest gel and shellac treatments, and these girls can really "nail" a French mani. Their work while efficent, is meticulous. In the past year, they redid the salon a bit, so while I wouldn't describe it as trendy or swanky, I would describe it streamlined and clean.
