The thing I didn't like was I saw in that very same restaurant people with regular Hot Chocolate with 3 times the portion for the same price. So, I believe I in particular got ripped off or every single other person got hooked up. (Which is more likely?!) (that's the one by the Westin) I also ordered Risotto with Creamed Asparagus. It was great. Especially with the addition of what appears to be a large round chip. It's actually a chip of Parmesan cheese. I also had some of Roasted Chicken with sweet potato purée, peas & onions. The chicken was good and tasted pretty strongly of the herbs that was used to prepare it, however, still tasty. It was a little on the dry side. For dessert I ordered the classic Mont Blanc. It is very unique and is a good dish. However, the texture on top has nearly the consistency of play dough. The inside it a bit better tasting. From the notes on the front page people are more inclined to order it over the other pastry options as I was based on the history and secrecy of their family owned recipe. Based on my experience and great deal of taste for pastries I'd highly recommend the Millefeulle Vanille when available. Put it this way; everyone that ordered that in the restaurant there was no trace or telling what they ordered. I've wanted to dine in a branch of Angelina for a while, having first come across the chain in Dubai. So I couldn't miss it when I visited Chateau De Versailles - it's a shame I didn't know it was there pre-visit otherwise I wouldn't have eaten elsewhere earlier in the day. The savoury food we saw served to other diners looked fantastic - sadly we couldn't justify a second lunch so opted instead for drinks and desserts. I chose to try three of the things Angelina is famous for. To drink I had the iced chocolate 'l'Africain' - this was very rich, like a strong chocolate milkshake. It was good but I couldn't finish it - which is very unusual for me! It was priced at 8.20. My patisserie of choice was the Mont Blanc Yule Log. I love a good Mont Blanc and with it being the festive version of Angelinas signature cake, how could I resist? It was delicious and not too sweet. I'd highly recommend it, or its non festive variation. It was very good for 9.50 I thought. My companion and I also shared four mini macaroons (9 euros for 4) in dark chocolate, pistachio, caramel and cassis. The pistachio was easily my favourite. These were good macaroons, lovely and chewy inside with a crisp shell. The caramel one was maybe a bit on the sweet side. I added a packet of sugar to sweeten it! The quiche was good but was not extraordinary. My mom and sister had the steak and potatoes, which cost 28 euros each. The steak came out smaller than expected and was cooked medium rare when we asked for medium. Both my mom and sister were disappointed with their meals. They said the steak was nothing special and the mashed potatoes were very bland. Although they both had a sip of my hit chocolate and were quite jealous. coming to Angelina I had high hopes because I had heard wonderful things about their hot chocolate. I came for lunch with three of my other friends and immediately we were treated with disrespect. I don't know if it was because we are American or what but they rushed through taking our order, cutting us off mid sentence, and told us it was quote "impossible" to take the egg off of a club sandwich. The sandwich, by the way, was 24 dollars, was supposed to come with chicken but there was so little that I couldn't even see it (maybe they didn't even put it on) and was basically a glorified grilled cheese with egg. Our waiter was chatty and laughing with the tables around us, re-filling their water constantly, but would never even give us a glance. How did I not know Angelina Cafe was the most delightful cafe ever?? Taking "Let Them Eat Cake" to a whole new level!! Marie Antionette would be so proud! Their Honey Gingerbread Cake is sinfully delish! Take the moistest, ever so slightly-gingered gingerbread cake, add in crystallized hunks of honey & bake it all up, then slice it like a loaf of bread & you've got the Honey Gingerbread Cake I had brought this baby all the way home before even trying it but after the 1st taste, no one else stood a chance....it was ALL MINE! If you lightly toast the thin slices then schemer w/ butter, you'll get the best eye-rolling OMG reaction. It was a bit crunchy yet chewy from the toasting, heated / caramelized honey & the gingerbread & brown sugar seemed to get that much sweeter w/ the additional butter I'd have purchased 12 more cakes had I known it was going to be *this* good! In fact, if anyone is willing to smuggle a cake or 2 into the US for me, I'll be your best friend!! Also purchased some Chocolate Tea for Sis & although she isn't so much of a dessert person, she absolutely loved this tea - she said the chocolate added a sweetness that was incredibly flavorful but not sweet - if that even makes sense. Every Paris food blog I visited recommended going to Angelina's for hot chocolate. I didn't get a chance to hit up any of the cafes, but luckily, the Chateau de Versailles had one. Walking inside the Chateau de Versailles as you pass Marie Antoinette's bedroom on the 2nd floor, you will come across a fairly well known dessert shop in France known as Angelina. I have tried the following which they are apparently well known for: 1) MONT BLANC which is a dessert of puréed, sweetened chestnuts topped with whipped cream. Uncharacteristically of European baked goods, desserts, and pasteries, the chestnuts and whipped cream was as sweet as the sweetest frostings I find in a cake in America. The whole thing felt like a mix of condensed sugar with cream...which in my opinion was way too sweet for my liking. 2) HOT CHOCOLATE - this is apparently the "original" style of hot chocolate...the way it was SUPPOSED to be. It is not sweet and it's very very thick as the previous reviewer mentioned. It almost feels as if multiple dark chocolate bars were dropped into the cup to make this. So the Mont Blanc + Hot Chocolate + Evian water = 15 Euros. IMHO...way way too expensive for what you get. One thing that you don't need to worry about though is burning these calories off or not being able to eat your next meal b/c there is still plenty of sightseeing to do at Marie Antoinette's estates east of the palace. You'll be walking a good 10+ km more afterwards so perhaps a bit of a sugar kick is advisable to keep your energy up for the rest of the trip. 3.5* read more

This is our first trip to France, and we have been surprised at just how friendly and accommodating the customer service workers have been throughout the trip. Most are more than happy to take our money. Of course, there is an exception to every rule and Angelina is that exception. Today, we visited the Angelina deli in Versailles. We purchased a small hot chocolate and a sandwich for €12. I went to pay with a €100 note as this is all I had. The lady at the counter asked if I could pay with it something smaller. I told her no, and asked if she could take the €100. Instead of answering my question, she asked again if I could pay with something smaller. I told her all I had was a €100 note and a €10 note. She gave the biggest eye roll I've seen in my life, snatched the money and huffed in disgust as she gave me the change. I know what you're thinking. A €100 note is a big note to use on a €12 bill, but please keep the following in mind: -While this is a deli, it's nothing like a hot dog vendor on the street. It is an expensive deli inside versailles and is attached to an Angelina restaurant. There is even another Angelina restaurant elsewhere on the grounds. There is no reason why a place like this couldn't plan ahead and have change. -I would have been able to pay with my €10 note and a €2 coin, but I had to use all my coins to pay for €14 in tickets to cover mine and my wife's train tickets to and from versailles. The ticket machine would not take bills for whatever reason. -Regardless of whether or not it was an issue to accept a €100, it didn't need to be handled so poorly. There is no need to be so incredibly rude. Beyond the snooty cashier, the food was not worth the price. The hot chocolate tasted like drinking brownie batter. I know that sounds wonderful, but I wasn't a fan. My wife thought it was OK. As for the sandwich, it was nothing special. It was a baguette with ham, swiss cheese, and lettuce. Seating was also an issue. The seating in the deli was full and they do not let you sit in the restaurant if you're not dining in, so we had to stand. This is an issue because the amount of walking you do in versallies is substantial. You need to sit whenever you can. read more

I was disappointed with their hot chocolate. Its texture is sludge-like and thick, almost as if the cacao powder was not dissolved. The temperature it was served was luke warm and they give you a slim straw to drink with. I'm a huge sweets person and never met a sweet item i didn't like and i could not finish the hot chocolate. Paris, France - Chateau Versailles, Was a wonderful experience. So much to see, we lived in Paris and outside of Paris for four months. We went to Chateau Versailles five times (about 6 hours each time) and didn't come close to seeing all we wanted to see. Nonetheless it was wonderful and an experience I will never forget. About Angelina's... by the time we got to this wonderful restaurant we were so hungry... Though always started with Caviar and Champagne. The food was really delicious and deserts were... Well we were in the land of deserts so they were all so good! Anything you order at this restaurent will be delicious! Everything we ate the times we were there were absolutely delicious!! Hands down the richest and thickest hot chocolate I have ever tasted. Between my sister and I, we could barely finish the hot chocolate it was so rich. It was like drinking a melted a melted dark chocolate bar. It was really good the first few sips but then later on I was "......." The fruit tea was delicious! I wish they served more. I kept stealing my mom's tea it was so good. The pastries were delectable. My favorite was the pistachio creme puff. It was light and crispy. the creme was delicious. The chocolate was very rich. It was the hot chocolate in cake and solid form. This location is a must when you are visiting the palace of Versailles. Eat in the sit down restaurant not the snack bar or you might find yourself having to stand in a hallway to eat your lunch. I of course tried their famous Mont Blanc- a very unique pastry! The crisp pastry shell and fluffy whipped cream created a perfectly balanced sweet when paired with the rich chestnut crème that adorns the outside. I also sampled the chocolat chaud, which was like drinking a melted chocolate bar- smooth, rich, and decadent. Can't beat the location, and the servers and décor are as proper as you'd expect them to be :) Ordered the Mont Blanc, 4 mini macarons (chocolate, mont-blanc - which was chestnut, raspberry, and pistachio). For drinks I had the famous hot chocolate after hearing rave reviews from all my friends. Mom had a Darjeeling tea and dad had a café au lait. Perhaps it was the combination of the richest hot chocolate I've ever tasted and the creamy Mont Blanc (which is basically a ball of cream on top of meringue covered in chestnut paste - very pretty), but it was just way too much sugar and fat for one sitting. My mom and dad were fine though so I would recommend skipping any heavy dessert (or any dessert at all) if you decide to go with the hot chocolate. Macarons were surprisingly subpar - the ones at Laduree on the Champs-Elysée were phenomenal - light and perfectly flavoured - whereas these were just very meh. This is a great place to get your sustenance before venturing out to play in the massive gardens. Believe me, you'll need the energy. Watch out for your wallets though. The sit-down restaurant is expensive but worth the experience since you'll be eating in a palace. For those that have already done too much shopping in Paris and the wallet is nearing empty, then go to the snack side where you can get a sandwiches, salads, desserts, coffee, and, of course, macarons. The prices in the snack area are much more friendly for us commoners. There are a couple different seating sections so try walking back towards the bathroom if you can't find seating in the front. read more

When we brought it to the waiters attention, he laughed it off and blamed the construction nearby as the cause. We also mentioned it to the hostess.
