After having walked through the gardens at Versailles (and the palace, le Grand et Petit Trianons et le Hamlet de la Reine), we were ready for a break. Because today is what would have been my Granny's 106th birthday, we decided that some lovely pastries and chocolat chaud were in order: Granny always loved a mouthful of something sweet. Located just steps from the entrance to/exit from the Grand Trianon, Angelina offers a comfortable and beautiful place to take a pause and enjoy a lovely pastry. With very polite and helpful service (they speak French and English) ordering is a snap. It's counter service, and there is a lovely dining area where you can take your trays. The Paris-Brest was gorgeous and full of hazel it flavor and a blend of textures. The Mont Blanc Caramel was also wonderful--just the right amount of sweet tempered by the slight bitterness of the caramel and chocolate. It was absolutely delicious (and also beautiful). I highly recommend a stop at Angelina if you are visiting Versailles. After feasting your eyes on the beauty of the palaces and grounds, it's only fair that your other senses get a turn. read more

Honestly, I should be giving this place 5 stars, we really had no complaints to the food. Everything we got was delicious. The seating is adorable. I will tell you, the hot chocolate is not as good as Carette. This one was just too chocolatey, too much. Angelina is a popular patisserie, so we made a rest stop here after completing the exploration of the Palace of Versailles. This location is inside the palace, so it was a convenient stop to refuel and also take a bathroom break. We arrived around 10 am, which is the time that they open and it wasn't too busy yet. There was a good amount of seating available and I reserved a seat while my cousin waited in line for our order. The food is pricey given the convenience location inside a popular tourist destination, so we were set on just trying the famous hot chocolate. The hot chocolate certainly lived up to its famous status, it was very rich in flavor and you'll be sipping it for quite a while. If you're a fan of hot chocolate, don't miss out on trying Angelina's famous hot chocolate. Upon realizing the famed tea room & patisserie had a Versailles location, I decided to try my luck while visiting the chateau. Though there were half a dozen parties ahead of my group, the line monitor assured us we'd be seated shortly, & within 10-15 minutes, we were led to one of their dining rooms. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The cafè provided a much needed "pick me up" to get us through the morning. Stop by and give them a try. There are two lines upon entering, ordering from the full menu to the left and only ordering cafe, juice, sandwiches, and pastries to the right. When ordering from the cafe, there are a few rooms down the hallway to sit and enjoy (not just the room to your immediate right of the ordering counter). Points off mostly for the fact that it took us so long to get seated. When we were there, it was actually quicker to get seated to do the dine in vs the cafeteria. We unfortunately decided to do the cafe. It took about 45 minutes before we even ordered. At least one we ordered though we got our food right away. It seemed like such a waste to have Angelina be the only place that serves actual food inside of the palace of Versailles. They are more known for their pastries and chocolates, but not their standard food. I just wanted to get a meal, so I did not try any of their desserts. One thing that I did not know is once you leave the palace you cannot come back in, so really Angelina was our only option unless we wanted to miss parts of the palace. I got their quinoa salad which was actually very good and a water. My husband got one of the sandwiches from the cafe and the chocolate bread that comes as part of the meal deal. If I come to Versailles again, I am definitely going to make sure I am in the gardens for lunch time and to do the tour inside later in the day. I would not come back to this Angelina location though. Maybe I'll try another location if the line isn't out the door to try a pastry. read more

Just a quick pro tip: if you decide to eat here at the start of your tour, the way the flow is set up will actually place you at the end of the exhibit. Once you leave the restaurant and follow the path, you'll be kicked out of the palace within a minute. If that happens, you'll need to backtrack to rejoin the tour--kind of annoying, but manageable if you know ahead of time. Now onto the food. We stopped here for a late breakfast while visiting Versailles. My husband had the French breakfast which was very filling it included their famous hot chocolate which was amazing and their fresh orange juice which was out of the world tasty. A must stop if you're in Paris for an unforgettable french boutique bakery/ breakfast experience. They have at least 3 locations that we know and been to in Paris The location near the Louvre was the first one we visited. We were there close to opening so we didn't have to wait. This was one of my favorite restaurants during my trip to Paris. I got chicken supreme (Suprême de volaille aux morilles) with mashed potatoes. I recommend the Mushroom Ravioli with Summer Truffle (Ravioli aux champignons) since I tried some of my bf's dish. We both agreed this was the best pasta we had in our entire trip. The sauce of the ravioli is what impressed us as it had this amazing taste which I think is called the Grana Padano cream. Not recommended ~ just waiting in line during peak lunch could take over an hour...which we did. The relief of finally being seated will be forgotten waiting to be served. Expected snacks Angelina was a busy place when we arrived with a line leading to a point where it was split into two, one for the restaurant and one for grabbing drinks and sandwiches. From that snack side, I got two ham and cheese sandwiches called Parisian, and some lemonade. I expected my sandwiches would be a lot of bread and not much filling, and they were, so I added the filling from one to the other and just ate that one. The tough bread made eating slow, as tourists we were in a hurry to continue our visit, so eating one sandwich was a good idea. Our wait for the snack side was about 20 or 30 minutes, the restaurant was much longer. They have a couple of rooms where you can sit to eat, we got lucky and got a table in the first room. In fact, I left the line and grabbed the table, so I didn't actually interact with the food distributor and cashier. If you leave the chateau, you won't be able to re-enter, even if it's just to go to the restaurant. We were amongst one of the first guests there. Although it didn't look like there were THAT many people in line, the wait would've easily been an hour as there is such limited space inside. The menu is a QR code but they have paper menus if asked. Wanted the Parisian Breakfast but was told it was too late to be ordered. Noticed many others also tried to order as well. As one of the only cafes inside Versailles, the wait was fairly long. Once you do get inside though it is rather nice. I tried the Napoleon, which was so delicious. We also had the famous hot chocolate, which was a bit too bitter and thick for us (blame the American tastebuds...). The ambiance was surprisingly loud given the posh intention of the dining rooms, it is interesting to be sat where royals once entertained guests, but it wasn't worth the steep cost of simple items such as the $25 avocado toast and $13 hot chocolate. On that note, the hot chocolate that hits the top 3 best in the world on many TikTok lists was good. Like very good. It lacked the same opulence which makes me wonder about a possible lacking of food quality as well. I ordered a latte, Mont Blanc, and hot chocolate. The latte was good (Nespresso machine), the mont black tasted good and was unlike anything I had ever had. The salmon I got was fabulous. It came with quinoa and beautiful swirls of cucumber, an elegant cream/yogurt topped with mint. Thin pieces of what tasted like pickled red onions aesthetically placed here and there. So savoury, the whole bit. It left me satiated. This lunch was a needed respite from the crowds of Versailles. My son had the sandwich, - another beautiful presentation. He did love it. It came with roasted potatoes. And of course, the freshly squeezed orange juice was always a welcomed refreshment that I always looked forward to. We did not eat before coming here and we waited over an hour to get through the entrance. We were hungry and didn't really have a choice. We came here to have lunch and we got a sandwich to share and a cake to share. The sandwich was super sad. It was cold and dry. The baguette was super hard and chewy. It tasted like it was made last night. The cake was ok. We got the Mont Blanc. The chestnut was tasty. There are actually two parts of Angelina here. One was the hightea sit down option and the other was the stand and quick snack option. We went for the quick snack because we arrived late. I believe the hightea section probably has better pastries and better food. It was just super disappointing for the standup quick snack area. But you would believe either one you choose the standard would be the same. Or maybe both options are bad. Don't expect much from this place - first of all, it's really expensive, and no surprise, it's in Versailles Palace. Portions are small and taste is average.
