Vegan but still really yummy! Honestly loved their donuts and biscuit- on par with normal donuts/biscuits! The filling of the boston cream donut taste like a vanilla snack pack pudding which I personally don't mind but still prefer non-vegan boston cream donut filling. Jelly and vanilla sprinkles were both yummy- no complaints! My favorite was the apple cider donut- the perfect crisp exterior and soft cakey moist interior. These were also warm! We also tried the Western which has vegan egg cheese and bacon on their house-made biscuit. Biscuit was delicious! I don't personally love vegan cheese, but rather enjoyed the smokey flavor of the bacon. Overall, I would definitely return, but would pass on the boston cream and get more of the apple cider donuts! This is what I would consider a hidden gem in Ithaca because I've driven by it a hundred times and didn't even know it. My friends and I came here for 2 reasons. 1. I'm lactose intolerant and 2. 1 of us is vegetarian. This place checks all the boxes and we both can order without having to worry about anything. They also have wheat free options which is another plus. I got the breakfast wrap and it was probably one of the best wraps I've ever had. Definitely stepped out of my comfort zone trying it because I've only had the cheese on it but none of the other ingredients. I also got the strawberry mango smoothie with oat milk and it was the perfect match to my wrap. My friends had already eaten here and were raving about how good the cheese fries were and how I could actually eat them and they really were so good! Over all it was such a great experience and I love the diner vibes. The parking is a little iffy because it's in the same area of Dominos so it's a little limited but there's a parking garage around the corner and street parking is always an option. The iconic vegan diner is probably more of a bakery/cafe, if we're being honest, but it's awesome and worth a visit. We were eating light so went for coffee (excellent) and an apple cinnamon roll (outstanding). They had a lineup of breakfast sandwiches that sounded good, but the menu seemed to be missing a lot of diner classics like pancakes. Also, not sure what they have against reusable tableware, but everything was served in cardboard baskets and paper cups. They actually had a shelf stocked with your typical diner ceramic mugs, but they absolutely refused to serve my coffee in one, insisting on using a disposable cup. The food was amazing and delicious. It took a bit longer than your normal "burger" place because they make everything on the spot, including the frying the fries. But it was an acceptable wait period, about 15 minutes. Everything came out fresh and hot, delivered right to our table! It has the feel of a 1950s diner which was very cute! Loved that you could order different types of drinks like soda, juice, shakes, but they also had water available for people to get themselves as much as they wanted. They compost which is a plus! Just delicious and filling! Plus, what an incredible but not surprising find in Ithaca. Where do I start? How about the best donuts in the county! The traditional glazed donut took first place for our breakfast. My boyfriend declared it the best in our community and he should know because he's a donut connoisseur and has eaten more donuts than your average person. The added bonus he said was that they are vegan not that it matters to him. Next course was a delicious waffle for him and the full plate for my daughter and me. I finally got the chance to try Angelhearts! This is a delicious all vegan diner-style restaurant. We ordered the Chick'n Bakon Biscuit and The Philly. The Philly was made with soy curls with grilled vegetables and cashew cheese whiz. Wow this dish was great! I personally enjoyed the sandwich. The "cheese" tasted really cheesy and the soy curls had a great texture, very similar to meat! Please do yourself a favor and order the Chick'n Bakon Biscuit!! This is a breaded Seitan Chick'n Patty, bakon, toped with maple chipotle sauce served on a sweet biscuit. Wow, the seitan patty didn't taste like a meat alternative at all; it was juicy and flavorful. I also loved the maple chipotle sauce, it paired so well with the 'meats' and the sweet, bread-y biscuit. I would say this is my favorite vegan item I have ever eaten in my life! Angelhearts is getting a 5 in my ratings solely because of this sandwich. I believe that Angelhearts is actually closed from end of October 2023 for two months. After hearing great things, I was pretty disappointed. I am not vegan, but I do enjoy vegan food so I decided to give this all-vegan restaurant a try. The diner was pretty empty for a Sunday morning. Beware the restaurant automatically adds in 15% gratuity and you can only order food at the counter (no table service). I wanted the Good Morning Ithaca, but they told me they could not do it without homefries, which is odd considering they make all the dishes right in front of you. Therefore, I decided to go with the Full Plate, which lacked much flavor. The Mocha was disappointing as it also had no flavor (overpowering milk taste). The Cinnamon Roll was the only good thing. $23 for a small Mocha and the Full Plate is pretty steep. read more

Some people might say, "But the definition of a diner is eggs and bacon!" Well, they only say that because they've never been to a good vegan diner. What I really like about Angelhearts is that they get creative with their take on diner food without resorting to the usuals like the black bean burger. I love their tofu benedict with their really well seasoned tofu patties. The tofu is firm, and they sear it a little bit, so the tofu keeps its shape and retains all the flavors. I thought that the seared coconut on top for the bacon stand-in works great to give the tofu a little bit of crunch. I'm not usually a fan of homefries, but those that come with the benedict are crispy without being burnt and taste great with a little ketchup. If you get a chance, try the beet burger or the BBQ sandwich. My friend and I liked them, and think that they're a great twist on the regular beef burger and pulled pork sandwiches. Food can come out slow, especially if they have one person cooking, so I'd definitely say call ahead and arrive there 5-10 mins after their time estimate. I like that they keep their workers safe by having no one enter the dining or kitchen area, in addition to a no contact take-out system. Good stuff: The food is delicious. Everything we ordered was wonderfully tasty, hearty, flavorful, and served in large portions. The person taking our order was friendly and informative. The menu is large. The coffee was superb. Everything is vegan!! No-so-good stuff: It's "take-out only" (only not). You place your order up front (paper menus are available at the register) then wait for your name to be called where you go pick up you food & you can eat inside if you choose. This would be okay if that were the intention of the restaurant. But with the name -- DINER -- the lack of a large menu on the wall, and a automatic 15% tip included with every order (regardless of size), this restaurant clearly was intended to be a sit-down space, with table service. Not having that, and not making adjustments after the fact (like having wall menus available or at least menus at the door so you can browse the menu while waiting in line to order), really dampened the experience. With the tip, breakfast was $75 for 4 people, which we ate out of a takeout cardboard box with plastic (compostable at least) utensils and paper napkins, after a 45 minute wait. That 45 minutes didn't include the wait in line at the register to place our order. Then we bussed our own tables. The bathroom is out the door & down the hall - and is locked - so you have to bring a key on a giant spoon (which who knows how many unwashed bathroom hands have touched previously). Not a good experience. The music was super loud. I mean, I get it - hardcore/punk goes along with the vegan vibe, but it was just too garish & loud - to the point of inhibiting conversation -- and really didn't help the atmosphere. There's no artwork either. Bottom line: Good menu, great food, high prices for so-so atmosphere, and no service. Every time I order from Angelhearts, I'm just so grateful that there's a vegan diner closeby :') I got a Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake, "The Duck", and a toasted coconut donut this time! The cupcake itself was a little bit too dense and thick, but the frosting flavor was well paired with the base. Perhaps next time the cupcake will be a bit fluffier / more light and airy! The Duck is a burger with a lightly glazed donut as the buns and then a tofu / plant based sausage patty in the middle. I read some previous reviews, and since then, they did serve our food on metal trays instead of to go, and the music was on, but not too loud. Had an incredible first visit to Angelhearts today!! The dining area is really charming and clean and service was very friendly. Food came out in a good amount of time. The beet burger was hot and fresh and had a good amount of tasty sauce on it. I also loved the roll it came on. Side salad had a creamy, basil-tasting dressing. My companion ordered the pulled BBQ sandwich and devoured it, and I thought the fries were also excellent. They were also hot and fresh, with a malt vinegar taste. And I am not usually a donut person but I'd heard great things about the donuts at Angelhearts and wow!! It was truly incredible. Light but still decadent and melts in your mouth. Pros: Great vegan food, decent-sized portions Cons: Food is served in to-go containers, even if you're dining-in. Hollandaise sauce is a bit runny. Ketchup and hot sauce are in packets rather than squeeze bottles. It's always nice to encounter an all-vegan restaurant when you are traveling. My spouse and I stopped by Angelhearts Diner when we were visiting Ithaca. The food was great. The tofu benedict was delicious and had some interesting spicing in the tofu patties. The potatoes were delicious, too, especially with some hot sauce and ketchup on them. Two minor complaints: The hollandaise sauce had a great flavor, but it was runny, and there wasn't enough of it. I wonder if they can thicken the sauce with cornstarch or something, and also put a more generous serving of it on the tofu patties. Also, I wasn't a big fan of the coconut "bacon", but that's purely a matter of taste. I would have preferred one of the commercial products, like Lightlife Fakin' Bacon or Sweet Earth Benevolent Bacon. Be sure to get the mozzarella sticks. They are fantastic! My spouse and I also got some food to-go, so we could have it for dinner. The chicken-and-waffle was great. The Belgian waffle was probably the best vegan waffle I've ever had. My spouse had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and it was delicious. The cheese sauce is better than anything we've ever made at home. A few things that might be improved: My spouse and I dined inside the restaurant for our lunch, but all the food was served to us in "to go" containers, and we had to use plastic utensils to eat. The dining experience would be more pleasant if the food were served on regular plates and if we could use metal silverware. Also, the ketchup and hot sauce were available only in little packets, not in squeeze bottles (which would have been more convenient). Anyway, the place is great overall. Their food is delicious, and they're so careful about packing it up so it'll be just as tasty when we get it home as it would be if we were able to dine in right now. The trouble is, I can never decide whether I want breakfast or lunch. The breakfast sandwiches are so good, the sausage gravy is magical, the home fries are perfect. But the buffalo nuggets are also amazing, the burgers are stunning, and the cheesesteak is so decadent. It looks as though lots of Buffalonians are seeing what a great pandemic getaway Ithaca is. It's also a great vegan destination! We order from Angelhearts several times whenever we are in Ithaca. Everything has been FABULOUS. Most places in Ithaca have a good pandemic system going but Angelhearts is the best we have seen. Order over the phone, they tell when it will be ready and they will call when it is actually ready. They have a table out front where they will put your food when they know you're there. All the folks working inside have masks and gloves. The pancakes are perfect diner pancakes. The chicken and waffles is perfect even thought I've forgotten to ask for hot sauce each of the four times we've ordered it. Their seitan chicken is so crunchy on the outside, the waffles is soft and perfect, and the butter and maple syrup are included, each in a tiny plastic condiment cup. The butter is 80% melted and pours right over. The Philly Fries - DELICIOUS!! The peppers and onions really take the dish over the top. The Eggs Benedict on house-made biscuits is great, as are the other biscuit dishes. The mac&cheese is part of the "Grab and Go" menu and you can get it without pre-ordering. There is a window for ordering Grab and Go items, including coffee and espresso drinks, milkshakes, BBQ sandwich, doughnuts, and other baked goods. Also, the mac & cheese with BBQ soy curls on top was so good. There is a bottle of hand sanitizer right at the window, which is just inside the front door in a vestibule type area. I was about to get an espresso milkshake but when I saw it would be $9, I opted for an affogato for $4.75. They use oatmilk soft serve ice cream. The tofu sandwich is good but probably my least favorite because everything else just outshines it. Pastries are visible from the front window but you might want to check Instagram to see what sort of specials they have. Glad I did or I would have missed out on an awesome cheesecake and strawberry parfait. Things get VERY busy around brunch time Saturday. Get your order in early because by noon, you might be waiting two hours for if you can get through on the phone at all. read more

We're vegetarians and not vegans but would eat here regularly if we lived in the area. The Philly Cheesesteak is amazing as is everything else here! We stopped by the diner on a Sunday and wasn't aware that we were unable to order and pay in person for our to go order. We stuck around for the Vegan qualities of the restaurant. The food was fair. I think I figured out that I don't like seitan but the cashew cheese is great. I would recommend ordering a separate order of fries instead of ordering as an add on. You can see the difference in amounts in the photo. The only thing that could have made our experience better is online ordering and perhaps they only have one line to call in on. Once I was able to get through (while I was outside their door), ordering was mostly easy but I had to give my payment information in a public space. They called me when it was ready and the order was placed on a table outside. There is a picnic table area out back that didn't seemed to be cleaned often and took our meal to a park.
