I've been to Anejo twice (both times shown in photos) the first time they were really busy at happy hour (50min wait) but we decided to wait anyways. The tacos were more dry, we ordered one of everything on their taco menu. The tilapia is definitely the best one, the chorizo isn't bad but everything else was kind of the same flavour across them. No salsa and I wish they had more toppings. I had to use a lot of sauce for them. The service is really nice! I'd probably come here again for happy hour only, it's a great range in time you can come in and great for bar hopping! read more

Like most people on here, only worth it during happy hour. The food is a bit underwhelming. We were kind of annoyed because we asked for a table and they said none were available due to reservations. Only high tops available . We were there for about 1.5 hours and 9 tables were open and untouched. When we asked our server she said it's because that area's server is not in yet. I've never really seen that and I used to serve (years ago). We didn't want the high top chairs because my friend has a back problem and also, we would have ordered more foods but the table top was so small we had no room. Our server also got mad at us half way through seating. She brought us nachos and just said "here" and didn't help us make room on our small table. Won't be coming back. read more

HalfyHour is a really great deal at Anejo. If you can make it there between the times of 3-5pm or 10pm-12am depending on your schedule, tequila is half price, including the top shelf stuff! All of their tacos are also 50% which makes them $3 each. What really tops off being awesome is that you can make a reservation online even during HalfyHour! Anejo is located in the basement of an older King Street building. I think that a long time ago, this might have used to be a Bier Market or something like that. It's pretty cozy down below although they do have some seating on the patio if you want to enjoy the weather outside. The tacos here aren't bad! I had a steak barbacoa and a pulled pork taco. You can order the other drinks on the menu as well even if they aren't half priced. If you're looking for a mocktail, they can make any of the flavours of margarita virgin one. read more

For someone who's allergic to tequila I should've been more alert to where I was going . I let my friend make the reservations and i probably should've looked at the menu. Regardless I was really impressed and acknowledged the server who helped us as he triple checked everything before serving it to me (and us). We got the guac and chips - was super cool to have the guac mixed up in front of us. We shared the beef tacos and the fish ones a both were good but I wouldn't recommend taking them as leftover as they don't do the freshness justice. I had a vodka based marg and it was delicious! Not an expert in Mexican food but I thoroughly enjoyed their tacos de camaron which includes baja style breaded prawns, pickled cabbage, avocado crema, pico de gallo, and serrano. There were 3 freshly fried prawns on each taco and the balance of all the ingredients was perfection. Put a good amount of their hottest "hot sauce" but it wasn't quite hot. I got the marg of the month - raspberry jalapeño and it was like drinking watered down raspberry lemonade. I'd heard a lot of great things about the guava margarita but it was only slightly less disappointing. The food was even more disappointing - the birrja tacos were burnt and the mahi mahi tacos had no flavor. The service was also less than mediocre. I had an overall pretty good experience Anejo! The atmosphere and food was great, and the service was very friendly. We started off with ordering drinks, I got the mango margarita which was excellent! We also ordered the house salsa tasting for the table which included 4 different types of salsa. I was not blown away by any of the salsas, but I still enjoyed. For tacos, we ordered pulled pork, chicken tinga, chorizo, and al pastor. My least favourite was probably the pulled pork; it was definitely on the sweeter side which I am not a fan of. The chicken and chorizo however were very tasty! My favourite was the al pastor, the pork was delicious and I loved the pineapple pico on it! They also brought an array of hot sauces and housemade crema, which was great because we could all add as much sauce as we wanted. We ended the night with the churros which came with Nutella chocolate sauce. Absolutely warm, fresh and delicious! Overall, very happy with my experience here, would go again! read more

The guacamole to start was prepared fresh at the table which was super nice. It was tasty and the chips were very fresh. However the tacos were only so so. Still one of the best happy hour deals on King St., West. I find that there are a lot of industry people on Monday Tuesday having their weekends here. they have a lot of good deals like six dollar margaritas with different flavour varieties and also very cheap three dollar tacos. It is crowded during happy hour, so please prepare to wait or reserve a table ahead of time. Tried this place for the first time with a friend last night, and overall we had a lovely time. First of all, the decor was gorgeous. Loved the sugar skull designs and the dark wood tables. Our server was also lovely, very friendly and attentive throughout. We tried a couple of the flavoured margaritas (of which there are a whole page of options!) and they were quite tasty. Our server also gave us the pro tip that they could make any of them spicy, which was good to know! I had the spicy guava and it was lovely, not too sweet. The food itself was a bit underwhelming. We tried the salsa tasting platter, of which I enjoyed the classic salsa and the pickled one. The other two were quite bland. I also got the vegetarian tacos, which were a large portion and very filling. It was flavourful but seemed like it may have been missing something. But I did enjoy that they give you different hot sauces and crema for the table so you can spice up your meal to your liking. The restaurant was also very loud, which is not a bad thing, just a heads up that it's not the best place for quiet conversation. We ordered guacamole as a starter which was made right at our table -- tacos, and LA CARNE, a tasty skirt steak, hominy risotto, chimichurri, and mezcal honey vegetables. The pork was completely flavorless and the chorizo wasn't much better. The beef tacos were the best of the three. We also tried the table side guacamole - that was delicious and we would order again. Our server was okay, although I did feel a little judged for deciding not to have any drinks. When the server replied with, "do you know it's happy hour?" Maybe it wasn't what was said but the delivery? I wasn't sure if it was just my interpretation of the situation but when I asked my boyfriend he agreed that we both felt awkward. When we ordered our second round of food, he looked at his watch to which I replied, "is the kitchen closed?" And he said no, but that also made me feel very awkward. I love me a good tequila bar, and Anejo did not disappoint! Came here last weekend for a quick drink with a friend, which soon evolved into a quick drink plus a serving of chips + pico, plus a jug of margarita, and a taco just for kicks. Oh boy! Anejo feels like you're dining in an underground cavern in Mexico, and it's refreshing to enjoy good Mexican food in Toronto without all the cheesy tropes that often go along with a Mexican resto. This is no tex-mex destination! The pico de gallo came over to us in the form of whole tomatoes, and our server crushed and diced the tomatoes right in front of us! It was definitely on the higher end price-wise, but after watching it being almost entirely prepared right in front of us, the price made total sense, and I was impressed. There is only one veggie taco option (mushroom), but it was pretty good and they have a wide variety of other vegetarian dishes, for those who are inclined. Then came the jug of margarita. There is a long list of margarita variations, and as soon as I saw the chili coconut option, I knew I had to try it. My friend insisted on a jug and it was well worth it. The coconut syrup was slightly sweeter than I'd prefer, but overall it was really good and the chili flavour gave it the perfect little kick after every sip. We happened to come across Anejo randomly on last Thursday night while trying to find a table for 5 on the busy King Street West entertainment strip. After being told we have to wait up to an hour at most of the locations since we didn't have reservations (I know, bad planning on our end, the plans came together very quickly), we walked by Anejo and tried to walk in but were told that it was a private event. However, we ran into Zach the General Manager of Anejo who was walking out at the same time we were walking in and he graciously invited our group to come in and sit at one of the empty booths. Note: We later found out that this was Anejo's "Friends and Family" night before their official launch on the following Monday. Which is why it was a private event. We started off with the tablesized order of Guac & Chips. The guacamole was brought over unmade and they actually mix the avocados and other ingredients right on your tableside. I've only experienced this at very few restaurants and it makes the whole experience very memorable for the customers. I myself decided to go ahead and try their tacos . Not being able to pick one, or three, I went ahead and ordered all six of their options. Deep fried tilapia Chorizo Beef Chicken Pork Mushroom My favourite one was by far the mushroom one. I'm a huge taco fanatic and I relish when restaurants get creative with non-meat ingredients in their tacos. They also have an excellent collection of tequila and mezcal. I ended up ordering flights of the Casamigos (You're welcome Clooney), the 1800 and the Ambhar. Gotta hand it to Hollywood, they know how to make a smooth tequila. Casamigos ended up being my favourite of the three. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu. Their cocktail list was extensive and very imaginative. Some others in our group got the Pineapple Mojito and the Tequila based negroni. I'm giving them a five star because we received excellent customer service. From the moment Zach the GM invited us in, to the moment we left we felt like we were truly pampered and taken care of. Came here with a reservation on a Friday night. I knew it would be expensive, but was excited to try this place. Our first waitress was very friendly, however the second waitress was very rude, slow and didn't seem to know what was happening. We asked for a bottle of wine and she said they only give bottles to tables of 3? The wine was one of the cheapest wines possible, of course I expect an overpriced wine at a restaurant in downtown Toronto, but at least put the bare minimum with a selection that compliments your menu. We took the waitresses food suggestions, stuffed jalapeño appetizer (terrible), guacamole (average and not at all worth the price) and the seafood main fish to share. Very very average drinks, they're menu looks interesting but the drinks themselves are letdowns. Now down to real stuff, negatives: First of all we had the worst waitress I have attached my receipt for your reference on the restaurant prices and her name.I did leave a tip but just because I feel bad for kitchen staff, she on the other hand didn't deserve a dime and I think she was very unhappy with her job. Second, the steak( and mushroom )tacos have a weird smell(it was the mushroom the steak was actually good) and the taco bread(I got corn) is very doughy and not easy to handle nor tasty. My wife had the Milanesa and I had the Molcajete con carne, they were just ok. Regarding service, the hostesses seemed uninterested and were almos unwelcoming. After we got sat down, the young lady that sat us down informed us of what the seasonal margarita was and then proceeded to tell us that there was a 2 hour dining limit. Absolutely love this new addition to the Mexican restaurant scene in Toronto. Anejo has a great vibe, delicious food and drinks, and staff are super nice. Came here two weeks after they opened and ordered the following for four people: 1. Guacamole - Fresh and they make it in front of the table, so you can have your preference if you want it chunky or on the smooth side. 2. Chili Relleno 3. Molcajete de Mariscos 4. Molcajete de Vegetariano 5. Steak Tacos 6. Tres Leches and Churros Everything was delicious and serving size is generous. The molcajete is on the spicy side but it was tolerable. They also have good options for vegetarians so that is a plus. And the desserts are great ending to a superb meal. We ordered different margaritas (guava, chili coconut, cucumber cilantro) and though they were all tasty, booze was lacking a bit. They also come in small glasses with a lot of ice so it goes by quickly. Overall, definitely would go back to this place and it is a good option if you are looking something similar to El Catrin.
