From removing labels in the neck of my shirts, because they are uncomfortable; to remaking a sport jacket to fit me, that was my fathers that was 45 years old, and a favorite of my dad s. Fun fact: Andy used to be the tailor at Four Seasons dry cleaning. He became so popular that he opened up his shop a few doors down across the street and the rest was history! Andy is a proficient tailor and he really knows how to make a garment sing! His establishment is cash only, so don't forget to pull some out of the ATM. I've always received my altered pieces within a week's time. Please keep in mind that he is a small business owner, and does not often have time or staff to answer the phones and respond to emails. The only problem is that Andy seems to hate to be in the shop, because almost every time I go there I see a post-it on the door saying "Back in 5 minutes." I had a jacket and a denim vest altered here. The price came out to be $105 in total. I came in on a Tuesday, quickly was pinned to my measurements. I wish I'd worn deodorant before I got pinned by the nice man. Oh well. Masks are required. The woman in the back looked like she was deeply focused on her phone scrolling. Then I left with a little paper slip from the man at the counter that had the price and the item number. He said I could only pay by cash or check and it would be ready for pick up in a week. I came back a week and a few days later. The woman who was on her phone from my drop off was helping me She gave me my items after bagging them. She wasn't wearing her COVID mask properly at all. It was too big for her I think, sort of floating vaguely around her face. I gave her my check and left. It was a good experience overall. Would come back. read more

I tried two days in a row to get multiple jeans altered but the shop never opened. The first day i waited an hour, second day a half hour. I even called to confirm their opening time. Sad. Wish I could give an honest review, but I guess I'll never know. read more

I brought 2 summer skirts to Andy's in the fall to fix the elastic that had stretched out of shape. I went to put one on this spring for a special event and saw that one skirt had been finished but the other untouched. They were still in the plastic draping from his store with his logo on the cover. I took it back and explained what happened, and Andy the owner had the nerve to kick me out of the store and told me never to come back. He said I was trying to get something for nothing and said I was trying to steal from him. I had taken many things there over the years, but NEVER AGAIN. Great results every time! I have had over a dozen items tailored. Sometimes the changes are complex -- like changing a sweater-dress with a turtleneck to a scoop neck. Andy's was recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to try them out. I had lost weight over the last few years and my suits no longer fit. I had a pair of BDU pants (men's pants, so the waist came up over my belly button) that needed the waist lowered/crotch taken up so that they would fit me. I went to numerous tailors in the area - no one would touch the job. Andy accepted without hesitation, put me though a quick fitting (he has two dressing rooms), completed the job quickly (4 days) and perfectly. You wouldn't even know they'd been tailored unless I told you! He is friendly and professional. The shop is small but clean. I will bring all my tailoring here from now on. HORRIBLE customer service. They were randomly closed without notice the day they told me to pick up my pants. They frequently did not pick up my calls or return messages to reschedule and had zero remorse. Finally I got there to pick up my pants and they made me stand there for 10 min while half of their employees sat around. I'm all about supporting local businesses, but not this one. read more

Alfredo did a really great job on my new suit. He has a great eye for these things, so the consultation at the beginning took maybe two minutes, and it came out exactly the way that I wanted it to. The prices are a bit high for what you get....but given the location I would be OK paying for the convenience if they were reliable. Unfortunately they're not. Several times I've gone to pick stuff up or drop things off during their posted hours...and either they weren't there...or had a note on the door saying they'd be back in 5 min. I waited up to 15 min and no one came. Sometimes there were 3 or 4 other people waiting outside with me. Today I called to make sure they were open before I wasted time going. They said they were open until 5. When I got there the door was locked and no one answered....it was around 1 pm on a Saturday afternoon....and 3 other people were waiting outside. We eventually all gave up. I'm taking my business elsewhere..... Only explanation I can think of is the owner is not on site and doesn't realize what's going on. read more

Tried this place because Distillos was closed for a vacation and I needsd several things done to a bridesmaids dress that couldn't wait. The stitching quality is excellent but things aren't quite what was discussed. The strap adjustments are perfect but the hem is a smidge higher than what it was pinned. I asked to stitch up the front a little for modesty and the change made was way higher than pinned in the shop. I also asked to have a hook and eye added to the zipper and that seemed to be totally forgotten. Issues with the last two probably could have been fixed but I was in a rush so didn't try it on in the shop. Overall just a bit disappointed, especially since it seemed kind of expensive. Probably not a place I'd revisit. read more

The hours advertised for this business on both Yelp and their website are 8am to 7pm. I showed up around 9am and the store was completely closed. I gave them a call and nobody answered. I waited until 9:30 and nobody arrived, so I left. Because I needed to have a few items of clothing tailored quickly, I called them again around 10:30 and they answered. I asked them twice on the phone if they would be able to have a particular job done by Thursday, as I have an unexpected event coming up. I explained what I needed done and was told yes, so I drove ~30 minutes back to Squirrel Hill, only to be told that the items could not be finished by Thursday. read more

Although Andy was abrupt and had inconsistent hours I continued to patronize him because he did a decent job and I'd been burnt by another tailor. Well I was finally burnt by this unassuming man when I left several pieces with him one day with clear instructions for each. I came to pick up my items at the set time, he told me he had done nothing, the second time I came to pick up my items I tried on each piece... with one strappy dress I found it hard to detect if he had done anything, I couldn't see a change but he insisted he had done as I asked...I think he did nothing but decided to pass it off. With another item there were no longer pockets and there was a lot more fabric missing from a very full linen skirt I had given him...he kept insisting that my dress(now skirt) never had pockets, which was nonsense. This place is amazing. They have a fitting room for you to change so that exact measurements can be taken, they are quick to get your stuff back to you, and they are very nice. They weren't cheap, but they did an excellent job on a wedding dress that needed to be taken in several sizes. They gave me a set price and I came in to have the dress fitted 4-5 times. It was well worth it and I definitely recommend them. read more

I went here to get a suit altered. Figured from the reviews, it would be a decent place. Came back 1 week later to pick it up. Needed the cuffs adjusted and the pants hemmed. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for a PROFESSIONAL tailor who can give you honest opinions. The two times I went here, I have not seen the master tailor. There are 2 highschool aged workers running the store, doing the pinning and helping customers. Here were some issues. 1. Came in to pick up my suit. It was not in the store, apparently they had to call someone to drop it off. 2. They were complete UNSURE of what alterations I wanted when I came to pick it up. They did not mention that my pants were hemmed. I told them that I specifically requested my pants to be hemmed. They had to look again to be sure that it was hemmed, 3. Jacket cuffs/pants needed to be shortened but from the stitching it was uneven. 4. Jacket needed to be suppressed. I could see wrinkling of the seams of the jacket indicating a poor job. 5. Customer service is not important here. Expect a LONG wait. They do not know how to stagger customers appropriately. There were 3 other people in line waiting to pick up their items and only 1 worker. Instead of assisting the customers while one person was getting changed in the changing room, he decides to call people to come in to pick up their items. I had to wait almost an hour just to pick up my suit. 6. Lack of experience from the workers. Really? 2 poorly dressed young kids doing the pinning and giving opinions. 7. This is truly a hole in the wall place. Dirty changing rooms with 2x4s put together as makeshift benches. Avoid this place and go somewhere else. read more

Needed to get a bunch of jeans shortened, and chose Andy's because Squirrel Hill is convenient for me and a previous girlfriend had been there when he was still using the name Irene's (the woman he took over the store from). He was very friendly and explained in detail the difference between original and regular hems, and gave me his honest opinion as to which pairs didn't need to have the more expensive hem used. I really respect that he didn't upsell and just say the more expensive original hem method was always better. Both prices were very reasonable - just $10 for a regular hem and $15 for an original hem. There are two changing rooms - not exceptionally large or lavish, but more than sufficient and perfectly comfortable for the purpose of just getting the clothes on. When it came time for pinning, he gave me his opinion on length, but said he would be happy to do whatever I wanted. He did his work quickly and professionally. As for turnaround time - I came Tuesday right before he closed and they were done by Friday morning when he opened. Even when I said he could take his time with the alterations, that there was no rush, he promised to have them done by then and they were. I know it was only hemming some jeans, but as far as I'm concerned this was a great overall tailoring experience - from customer service to price to quality.
