Called 908-686-0010 (Union office for Somerville, NJ area) yesterday to get estimate for minor drywall repair work. AndyOnCALL made 9-930 am appointment with me for this morning to give me estimate. I was waiting on my front porch, saw a silver sedan slow down and the male driver yells out his open window, "Don't even have a fucking parking space open for me! God damn it!" and then drives on. Guess who that was??? When the same sedan pulls up in front of my house, male driver gets out, exchanges pleasantries with two of my neighbors walking their dog, then comes up to my front porch. I asked him why he yelled out his open car window and repeated exactly what he said. He said I didn't have a place in my driveway for him to park his car. I said I didn't need to provide one. He said, "then I have to park in the street and I don't do that." I said I heard his cursing and thought it unprofessional. He admitted that he had not seen me sitting on my front porch. He asked if I wanted him to leave and I said yes. As he turned and walked away, he sarcastically said over his shoulder, "thanks for not having a place for me to park! Have a nice day!" Horrible work , needed screened patio repaired ( 5 woodwork and screen sections) according to Andy's evaluation. Didn't replace rotted wood, couldn't make the $300+ screen door work, Does not paint, does not clean up, and tells us disposal of 4 bags of scraps is our problem. read more

Andy On Call is a marketing and sales service for independent contractors, and when we received a callback from the carpenter who had been selected by them we almost mistook him for a well-timed telemarketer. The basement steps built into our home were old and a little loose when we bought the house in 1986. With time and wear, they only got worse. This past summer we decided to have them replaced, and began seeking estimates. Apparently, most local carpenters consider this too small a job, a waste of their time. After much searching, we located three prospects. Prospect one couldn't come for an estimate for three weeks. Prospect two was ready to estimate the next day, and in his excited and enthusiastic sales pitch peppered with colorful (to use the current phrase) "cultural insensitivities," was apparently too stupid to realize my ethnicity. Thanks, but no thanks. This leaves Andy. The price was right, work could begin immediately, and all seemed right. Our carpenter arrived on time. I spent a few minutes showing him around. He wanted to setup in our backyard, so I very carefully directed him to the outdoor house outlets (USE) and NOT the electrical outlets in the garage (DON'T USE, they are low amperage). He proceeded to setup enough electrical equipment to support a NASA launch, and plug his absurdly overloaded power strip into (you guessed it) the garage outlet. With power restored to our home, I had to get back to work. I next checked after the old steps had been torn-out. They were sitting in a pile on our back lawn. Checking again, a bit later, a pile of mis-cut new lumber was now sitting next to them. By mid-afternoon an additional lumber run was necessary. After I politely advised our carpenter that we would not be paying for his mis-cut lumber, he promptly loaded it into his truck. Our basement steps are extremely solid and level. To our surprise, absolutely nothing was done to finish-- not even replacing the finish components torn-out before the work began. No moldings, no trimwork, no paint and only 90% of the cleanup-- but a well-built set of steps. As Andy's competition was so quick to bring to my attention, this was not a difficult job. I'm not sure that the complexities paired well with the levels of drama. I really would have to again have few options to use Andy on Call again. read more

Had ANDY come to my house today to fix 2 doors, one (hollow core) bedroom door, and a basement door. For the bedroom door he wanted 650$ (including the 50$ discount), the other he told me he didn't know what to do with it. Clowns. Hope nobody is desperate enough to actually hire these criminals. read more

It is refreshing to find a carpenter or handyman that wont walk away from a job because they will not make a boatload of money or the conditions are not optimal. I have personally experienced this with multiple carpenters/handymen and am grateful for a service like Andy OnCall. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would do that. where do i start. i wanted to get an entry door and a screen door installed. after calling around i got a quote from andy on call for a good price. i asked the guy if materials were included and he told me yes. the day comes and he shows up by himself to do the job. i figure installing a door is atleast a 2 person job. the contractor starts the job and already breaks my molding around my door. he then asks me if i would like to replace it? well the piece wasnt broken when he started so yes i would like it replaced. a few more holes in my spackle on my wall, a broken door bell, and a broken piece of siding he was ready to take the door out. i had to help him carry the old door out as well as put the new door in place and hold it while he was leveling it. if i wanted to do the work myself i would have done it. the whole point of hiring someone else was so that i didnt have to do anything. as he is putting the door in he then tells me that he is probably going to have to charge me more because it is a bigger job than he thought. if thats the case then i should charge him for my labor as well and i dont work for cheap. we finally get the door in and he runs to get the supplies from the store which blows my mind. he took measurements already when he came for the estimate and he still only showed up with 1 piece of wood for the job. the whole time he was working he kept asking if he should do the job this way or that way? last time i checked he was the contractor doing the job. i want the job done right so do it that way. while he was gone i called his boss to tell him how much of a mess he has made, why only 1 guy was sent for the job, and the guy didnt even seem like he knew what he was doing. his boss called him and when he returns from the store he asks whats going on. i tell him im not happy with the was the work is being done. he then tells me that he is only going to install the entry door and then leave and only wants half the money for the door. i told him no and he wouldnt get any money if he only did the one door bc thats not what i called them for. i then called his boss and had to tell him everything going on. the contractor even tried to make more money on the side by charging me more, but to write the check out to him instead of the company so the company wouldnt know. after 8 hrs he finally is done with the job. i may have a new entry door installed and screen door, but not i have to go and replace my door bell that he broke, spackel the spots, repaint the spots and also do caulking. I WILL NEVER GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY BUSINESS EVER AGAIN AND IF YOUR READING THIS I WOULD NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY. they are really unprofessional and dont know what they are doing. I WOULDNT HIRE THIS COMPANY TO INSTALL BLINDS IN MY HOUSE. read more

Their website says UNION county - I call and the lady keeps says "emm"..."hum"..."yea, you're not in our service area" ... Linden is part of Union county honey. After further review their site says Middlesex on 1 page then Union on the other. Won't ever recommend. read more

We were very happy with Andy OnCall . They were efficient, dependable and reasonable. We used them for several projects and will continue to use them in the years to come since we are not handy people. Bathroom and installation of an entry door are some examples and very satisfied outcome. read more
