I hate that people don't take the time to clean up after themselves or after their dogs if you know what I mean! I'm also a little bit confused with this $5 day pass that you have to pay when I saw no one the entire time we were there walking around and checking so I'm assuming it's on your honor. My other issue was throwing cans out of the water as I was trying to enjoy it with my family. Now I'm not trying to be a Kyle but it'd be nice to see some enforcement of the fools that don't care about trashing up something so beautiful. Shoot hire me and I'll take care of the litter bugs!

It is OK to run a generator for up to 12 hours straight! Then we went on the loop road on our bikes. When and why did they stop making Wednesdays, or part of it,bike only? It was so dangerous for They have replaced this road several times and not added gravel to the shoulder leaving as much as a 6-8" drop off. A bike cannot come up or go down that easily. There are multiple signs that say no stopping use the turn outs, many cars didn't follow this and made traffic even worse. Timed entry? Bike Wednesdays continued? Something needs to be done or someone is gonna get hurt really bad. On a side note many communities have a 3' law. Only pass a bike if you have at least 3' between your side mirrors and the bikes handle bars. I was almost hit with a side mirror. And I wasn't riding slow as I have an e bike. The saddest part is that I have been to 37 federal recreation facilities in the last 9 months and this was by far the worst experience.

John was great though, he was very patient with her and put us on fish immediately, but pretty slow action. All were pretty small but it was still a good time. We did make a move to another location and the fish got bigger and faster action. By that point she was tired and hungry and wasn't into the fish anymore. The trip stated a "streamside" lunch and drinks, which never happened. Make sure you bring some snacks and waters(even in the cool temps you can dehydrated). The equipment was nice, nothing leaked, and flies were quick to be replaced when lost. I've been on trips when you lost a lure it was like you sacrificed one of their kids to the "Marlin God" All in all the trip was nice. Rich V

The first morning we waded with Jimmy who patiently taught us how to cast, how to read the water and how to land the fish. I caught 6 trout that morning! The next day we met with Dillon who took us on a float trip down the river and once again we had excellent instruction and were able to catch 11 fish between the two of us. Both instructors were professional, patient, personable and knowledgeable. This is the group to use if you are interested in quality of instruction.

BLUF: Museum telling the history of Swain County plus a Gift Shop for Smoky Mountain National Park…read morein the historic circa 1907 courthouse. I love local museums so I was looking forward to checking out the exhibits in the former Swain County courthouse that dates back to 1907. Today the courthouse is the Swain County Heritage Center and in addition to providing exhibits that tell the history of the county, it also has a sizable gift shop related to Smoky Mountains National Park. As a bonus, those planning to visit the National Park can purchase a parking pass at the gift shop. Also, there are restrooms inside the building. I was impressed with how nice the exhibits were and it was helpful to understand the roots of Swain County. I particularly enjoyed learning about the original purpose of the tracks that are now used by the Smoky Mountains Railroad for tourism purposes. The museum is well curated and covers many different aspects of Swain County. For those wanting to pop into the museum, there is street parking in the area as well as a small lot behind The Hotel Everett that is right next to the museum. We appreciated how welcoming the employees were.

This is the "historic" courthouse. Completed in 1909 and designed by Frank Milburn who has done several other courthouse I have visited (Wayne County Courthouse in Goldsboro North Carolina, the Columbia County in Lake City Florida, Wise County Virginia, Boyd County Catlettsburg Kentucky and Lowndes County Valdosta Georga). The front has a large portico supported by four ionic columns with a pediment at the roof line. On the center of the roof is an octagonal dome with a clock. On this rainy Saturday afternoon, we opted not to tour the museum but did walk the grounds. It's an imposing building, much more so than the current modern courthouse not far away.
