There are several waterfalls in the maze of trails that lead uphill from the parking area here. The titular waterfalls are the first and are quite majestic, with benches set up to gaze at them and calm water for those who wish to take a dip. Indeed, the whole area included several spots for tubing around. The trails were well-maintained and offered views of several other classic Carolinan streams. Despite occasional rain, I was well-protected, and this is the kind of place you want to be when the weather is too hot elsewhere. There was something about getting a parking pass, but I had my national parks pass and never figured out what the procedure was. I got out okay.

Easy hike back, bench across from the falls so you can sit and enjoy and barely anyone else out on the trail. I was one happy falls hiker! The day was fading fast and John declined the walk out to this waterfall- I wore him out on the other one! Other than pulling up, roadside and viewing a waterfall- this had to be one of the easiest hikes I have ever done to see a waterfall.

This stop on your tour of falls is a nice break from heavy up hill climbing. There are three falls at this stop. Plenty of parking. No picnic area or restrooms or drinking fountains from what I could tell. The first fall is the the Juney Whank falls. This has a mild climb up on a rocky path. The falls is nice but not impressively photogenic. The trail down is rocky and unstable like the climb. Definitely not good for kids and strollers. Could be done by older adults if you can manage the unstable group. The trail length is about a mile in length. The other two falls are the Tom Branch and Indian Creek. These falls have a wide smooth path that is perfect for strollers and seniors. These falls are nice. There are benches to sit and relax on. The round trip to see both of these falls will take you over 1.5 miles

We spent a long weekend in Asheville back in January and came here for our first day of hiking. It was cold and snowing, so it wasn't crowded for us. The hike to this falls is really short and flat though, so I'd expect it to be very crowded on a nice day. We did the whole 4.7 mile Deep Creek/Indian Creek Loop trail where you can see 3 waterfalls. It's moderate and I would expect crowds to die off after you pass the first waterfall. It was a beautiful waterfall in the snow and definitely a nice, moderate hike. I'd recommend it!

What a beautiful hike we enjoyed! The winter day stared out cloudy and cold, then our hike ended with blue, sunny skies along the river. Several waterfalls to enjoy along the way. Easy walk/hike for people of ages and abilities.

Spring was a gorgeous time to visit. We were in Gatlinburg and looked up some easy hikes that had waterfalls. This shows ip for Gatlinburg but actually is in north Carolina. Saw couple waterfall and wild flowers .. spotted a snake. Nice trip.

A nice small set of falls that is easy to get to along a wide road. This site can be reached by 2 different methods. Our navigation app took us the more difficult way which was a rock/dirt road that went over the hill. I would suggest looking for the paved alternate route and taking that one. I highly recommend taking the well-paved part for everyone. Parking is limited in the parking lot that is at the trailhead for the falls. This location leads to several trails and at least 2 falls that are a short hike: Juney Whank and Tom Creek. Tom Creek is the easiest falls to get to and to see. Straight in front of the parking lot, to the right of the Juney Whank Trailhead, there is a wide road path, fairly flat with not much of a slope. Take that road for about 0.3 miles to the falls. You will probably see a group of people on the right side of the road. There are benches and steps and the falls are across the river from you. There is a way for the more adventurous to get down to the river or to the rocks if you want to get closer or get better pictures. It is a nice easy set of falls to see. It is a broad set of falls that is short by most standards but worth seeing if you like nature and falls. Enjoy!

The trails are clean and shaded. The tubing was fun and exciting. Beware...animals are not welcomed there, so do NOT take your furry friends. There is a fine of $250 if caught with a dog on the trails and the park rangers are in disguise, so you do not know they are coming.

Yesterday we hiked 6 miles of this park and saw all 3 waterfalls. This was truly s beautiful hike, Tom branch falls being the biggest of the 3 waterfalls. I personally suggest having hiking boots, 1/2 of the hike was going up a mountain or we kind of went off track and walked up a horse trail which was very steep and led to a beautiful waterfall. If you like hiking ( or are newer at it like we are) I highly suggest it! It's seriously beautiful ! I suggest bringing a backpack for water though!

Love love love waterfalls. It was too cold to swim! But it was refreshing. It was close to the parking lot so you do not have to walk that far to go up. They have rocks for sitting which you are able to sit and enjoy the view or actually go in. The water level was up to my ankle which is not bad. Wear water shoes because it was rocky. You can also go tubing too which looked so much fun. If I knew you can go tubing I would had brought extra clothes

I hate that people don't take the time to clean up after themselves or after their dogs if you know what I mean! I'm also a little bit confused with this $5 day pass that you have to pay when I saw no one the entire time we were there walking around and checking so I'm assuming it's on your honor. My other issue was throwing cans out of the water as I was trying to enjoy it with my family. Now I'm not trying to be a Kyle but it'd be nice to see some enforcement of the fools that don't care about trashing up something so beautiful. Shoot hire me and I'll take care of the litter bugs!

It is OK to run a generator for up to 12 hours straight! Then we went on the loop road on our bikes. When and why did they stop making Wednesdays, or part of it,bike only? It was so dangerous for They have replaced this road several times and not added gravel to the shoulder leaving as much as a 6-8" drop off. A bike cannot come up or go down that easily. There are multiple signs that say no stopping use the turn outs, many cars didn't follow this and made traffic even worse. Timed entry? Bike Wednesdays continued? Something needs to be done or someone is gonna get hurt really bad. On a side note many communities have a 3' law. Only pass a bike if you have at least 3' between your side mirrors and the bikes handle bars. I was almost hit with a side mirror. And I wasn't riding slow as I have an e bike. The saddest part is that I have been to 37 federal recreation facilities in the last 9 months and this was by far the worst experience.

John was great though, he was very patient with her and put us on fish immediately, but pretty slow action. All were pretty small but it was still a good time. We did make a move to another location and the fish got bigger and faster action. By that point she was tired and hungry and wasn't into the fish anymore. The trip stated a "streamside" lunch and drinks, which never happened. Make sure you bring some snacks and waters(even in the cool temps you can dehydrated). The equipment was nice, nothing leaked, and flies were quick to be replaced when lost. The first morning we waded with Jimmy who patiently taught us how to cast, how to read the water and how to land the fish. I caught 6 trout that morning! The next day we met with Dillon who took us on a float trip down the river and once again we had excellent instruction and were able to catch 11 fish between the two of us. Both instructors were professional, patient, personable and knowledgeable. This is the group to use if you are interested in quality of instruction.

I love local museums so I was looking forward to checking out the exhibits in the former Swain County courthouse that dates back to 1907. Today the courthouse is the Swain County Heritage Center and in addition to providing exhibits that tell the history of the county, it also has a sizable gift shop related to Smoky Mountains National Park. As a bonus, those planning to visit the National Park can purchase a parking pass at the gift shop. Also, there are restrooms inside the building. I was impressed with how nice the exhibits were and it was helpful to understand the roots of Swain County. I particularly enjoyed learning about the original purpose of the tracks that are now used by the Smoky Mountains Railroad for tourism purposes. The museum is well curated and covers many different aspects of Swain County. For those wanting to pop into the museum, there is street parking in the area as well as a small lot behind The Hotel Everett that is right next to the museum. We appreciated how welcoming the employees were.

This is the "historic" courthouse. Completed in 1909 and designed by Frank Milburn who has done several other courthouse I have visited (Wayne County Courthouse in Goldsboro North Carolina, the Columbia County in Lake City Florida, Wise County Virginia, Boyd County Catlettsburg Kentucky and Lowndes County Valdosta Georga). The front has a large portico supported by four ionic columns with a pediment at the roof line. On the center of the roof is an octagonal dome with a clock. On this rainy Saturday afternoon, we opted not to tour the museum but did walk the grounds. It's an imposing building, much more so than the current modern courthouse not far away.
