I went here in need of a tire replacement, which then turned into two when I was convinced they needed to match. Well a year later, I come to find out from my usual mechanic that he couldn't replace my other set of tires because nothing he had matched what the Gulf gave me. He then explained that the tires were a different rating than my others and it's a no-no to combine different tire ratings on the same car. Having lived in the area for quite some time, I was aware of this full service Gulf gas station right downtown at a busy intersection. I just never stopped in for gas or services because it always appeared to be difficult to get in and out until Sam, the owner, began calling my dog over while we were out for walks to give him a dog treat. It became an intersection that we could never walk by without my dog making a bee-line over to greet Sam. I started patronizing the gas station for gas just because of Sam's cheerful and friendly personality. His employees are always pleasant and efficient, gas prices VERY fair for full service and though I have not gone there for any auto repair/service yet, I would feel comfortable bringing my vehicle there for that. Sam's motto "another day in paradise" is his attitude every day regardless of the harsh conditions he endures on the roughest of days. It's refreshing to be greeted this way all of the time! I went there on 12/11/22 and the man working was not the typical man who I usually get gas from who is absolutely wonderful. This man that was working today was yelling and swearing at me, a young woman. He was saying things such as are you f*cking kidding me? why the f*ck isn't this full yet? Did you really drive until there was no gas left, f*cking idiot. (my empty light wasn't even on). I rolled my windows up and locked my doors due to how uncomfortable I felt. Owner Sam is rude and nasty and condesending (sp). Charged me $170 for one tire which I could have purchased for $80 at any tire store. But because I was a stranded woman with a blown out tire, he took total advantage. Never will give him one ounce of my business again. I will stick with Andover Mobil on North Main. I'm a big fan of Andover Gulf. I've been driving to Andover for the last four summer in a row to teach and have found the owner and staff to be friendly and accommodating. This summer (2017), my power steering pump blew while in Lawence, a few miles away. It was around 7:30pm, but the attendant told me to bring it in and have the truck put it in the garage. Next morning, I received a phone call with the estimate (very reasonable) and the time (two hours). All the service was on the mark and I would feel very comfortable using them again if something happen next time I'm in the area. read more

Awesome place to get any work done cheaper than a dealership. I bring my Jeep there for anything. Just had my throttle body replaced for a very reasonable cost. I live downtown and will never again use these hacks/crooks. Doesn't even deserve one star. And don't let the smiling Sam fool you as he cannot be trusted and will find every way possible to make repairs based on guessing. Go in with a tire that's making noise, they don't bother to test drive, just replace rotors, calipers, and pads that were done less than 20K miles ago. Problem was the tire yet would not take responsibility for it. Go in for an inspection sticker, you'll probably be talked into ball joints on other things. And asking for cash to wheel and deal on the price should tell you enough about this guy. Be WARNED! read more

Just got my truck back from a real mechanic to make sure it doesn't fall apart after bringing it to Andover Gulf. Sam's mechanic at Andover Gulf broke one bolt off in the motor for the water pump which the mechanic told me was most likely cause not trying to heat it first with torches. The broken bolt cannot be repaired without a major repair!!!!!!!!! Another bolt on the water pump was completely stripped and had to be re-tapped and bolted in. The fan shroud was missing several clips that were never re-installed or bought to do the job right. I mean how much can a clip cost or one bolt to re-tap, maybe $4 or $5 for everything! He also told me that the whole fan assembly was not assembled correctly and would have also caused me problems. This is a follow up to a previous post because I wanted to be dead sure before commenting on exactly what they actually screwed up. It was more important for Sam to argue with me on the phone the next day when I explained that I had to go right back as soon as I picked up the vehicle as after a driving out of his lot a couple hundred feet just to figure out my truck was in no way road worthy. He had a very nasty and hostile attitude and acted like the whole thing was my fault that my motor was vibrating all over the place and said that I rushed his mechanic! Totally not true! I came to pickup the truck when Sam told me to, in fact I had to wait an extra hour. I called my ride back that dropped me off right in front of his mechanic and explained that I was leaving the truck there and that this truck was obviously not ready yet. Sam if you are ever concerned enough to read this so you don't screw the next sucker and check with your mechanic you know that this is true! Never ever take your car here! Sam has a nice personality until you have a problem, then like Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde he instantly becomes king of the jerks! His mechanic must have been trained by LEGO where as long as it snaps together it should be okay but who really cares if the right piece is on or not because it still looks okay visually, at least until you add power drive it down the road! It cost me over $100 to evaluate and repair Andover Gulf's screw up and to put a bandaid on the $324 or so bill they gave me for a power steering pump! Sam is a total scam artist and just a money grabber who is just in sell sell sell mode until you have a problem. Then if you do have a problem, the hell with you! After all there's a sucker born every minute right and someone right after you to take your place! This post is just to hopefully prevent you in time from being his next sucker! Other posts are probably from his family members or people who just buy gas or have a wiper blade changed. It's a crap shoot if that even gets done right! This post is real. If he reads it (and please tell him to!) he knows who I am and knows this is 1000 percent true! I was going to dispute my visa bill or take him to small claims court but at the end of the day I decided that it may be more effective to write a review on YELP to help the next guy in line for service. I didn't write this to plug anyone but a couple of recommendations on actual honest mechanics to save you the sort of misery, money and time loss that I experienced are Ricks Automotive in Billerica and Spring St. Auto in Medford. Yes, not close to Andover Gulf but you get what you pay for, the work will be done right and worth the ride versus going to Andover Gulf! Neither one of those guys will sell you something you don't need and the job will be done right the first time. Oh yeah, they'll rev the motor up too first before they give you your car back to make sure your fan, water pump, fan shroud or other parts don't come off. As a long time customer, I've had tires replaced, brakes done, oil changed, bulbs replaced. All expertly done and some on short notice. It's the only place I get my gas. Sammy and his employees are the best. read more

I would not recommend this place for auto repair! I went for a rattling noise behind my radio and the mechanic wouldn't listen to me. He didn't even address the problem that I went there for!
