FYI - I have had NO work done on my vehicle that I brought in bc I thought my brakes & rotors needed to be replaced. Drop it off in the am...go to work...get a call from them, "they look ok...still have some life left...this other thing (bearing?) might be a thing, but it doesn't seem to be rn. No charge for the diagnostics...car is safe to drive". Who does that?? Most mechanics would make crap up just to scare you into false/"just in case"/safeguard repairs just to make a buck. Recently bought a car I hoped would help my daughter get around at school. I brought it in for a tuneup and a look at the brakes which needed a lot of pressure to stop the car. I got a call from the owner to inform me that the car was not safe to drive due to significant rot. Although it was pretty bad news, I am thankful for them finding the problem and informing of the danger of driving it. I obviously do not want my daughter to be driving an unsafe car. They have a nice waiting area, spacious and clean, pleasant woman who answers your phone calls and receives payment, and a reasonable price for tire change. But the mechanics has an issue with the wheel lock key. He couldn't find it, when he mounted the winter tires, and now we can't find it to dismount them. Just make sure you get the nuts AND the wheel lock key back, when you have them change the tires. Then you can avoid having to order a wheel lock key from tirerack and to make an extra trip to change the tires. read more

Preface: I did not actually get any work done here. I HAD to write a review about how exceptionally nice the people that work at this place are and how I plan to get all my future car repair/maintainence work done here. I had left work early to get to one of my best friend's brother's wake. Not even 2 minutes down the road, my car stops working. You can just imagine how much of a panic I was in. I called AAA and got towed down the street to the Precision Autotune I usually go to for oil changes and other small repairs. Basically, in tears I tell the guy (who has seen me several times prior) and tell him my situation. His response, "Wish I could help, but I don't even know if I'd be able to look at your car right now". I can understand if they had other cars that they had promised to people that day, but he could have at least taken a quick look and give me a diagnosis on my vehicle so I could take the measures needed to get to the wake I needed to go too. I asked the AAA tow truck for another auto shop suggestion and he suggested Dan's. So glad he did! I went into the reception area and explained to them my situation and they looked at my car right away! They told me what was wrong and explained that it wasn't a quick repair and were also honest enough to tell me that the problem I was having could have damaged my transmission which would pretty much make my car junk! They suggested I take a day or two to think about the repairs (knowing I was in a frantic state)and that I rent a car for the day and gave me the card for the Hertz right next door. I never got the repairs, but they allowed me to leave my car at the garage until I had purchased a new one. They were also nice enough to take the my plates off my old car when I came to get them. They were also extremely patient and understanding when the dealership I had purchased my car from had forgetten to pick up my old car from their garage. I honestly cannot say enough with how impressed I was how they treated me, especially considering I wasn't even a customer of theirs! This was the best customer service experience I've had in a long, long time. read more

These guys are professional, honest, and they do the little things for you. I went in for a brake job once, and they renewed my inspection sticker gratis. Oh Daniel, aren't you just a savior in a grease torn desolate wasteland of overpriced salivating mechanic MechDonalds. ~~--A 'lil history --~~ I've used Dan's auto repair once before and I am a THRIFTY shopper. And I mean THRIFTYYY. Like, to the point of pretending to put some change in the salvation army bucket, but I have black double sided duct tape wrapped around my glove, and I pull everything out. Then I push the bell ringer chick over, and take her bell. I digress. I had the work quoted at 4 different locations and Dan's was cheaper by hundreds of dollars. Not sure what everyone else is talking about the price being higher at this place. Every time I've gone the price has been reasonable/cheapest option. Probably mechanic spies from the area posting. ~~-- //End history --~~ This current visit involved me going on a trip to Cali in a few days and I was planning on getting a lot of work done on my car while I was gone. I dropped it off the night before, and in the morning was given quotes for all of the work. I was given the professional rundown of the reasons/options/and prices I needed. The car was done that same day. All of the work! SAME DAY! When I got into the car, it was done so well, I thought I was riding in chitty bang bang, and almost flew away into the sky! No joke. Great place. While they are on the higher end with prices, they are extremely honest and straightforward. You can trust whatever they say is wrong with your car. My car stopped working going to work. I called AAA and they towed my car to the closest repair shop with AAA discount. So, I finished in Dan's Auto Repair. It was far from home and far from my work. So, I decided to take a break after a stressful week and waited there, watching TV and having a cup of coffee. The people there were extremely nice and professional. They even offered me lunch, as I waiting a few hours for my car, which was finally repaired at a reasonable price. As someone who is poor and always drives pretty crappy used cars, I have to say that I've been pretty impressed with Dan's, despite their prices not being super cheap. I don't think their shop is particularly expensive, but I wouldn't say their inexpensive repairs have blown me out of the water. Where they do excel, though, is in telling their customers what needs to be done to their vehicles, and why these repairs are needed. Any time I've spoken to one of their employees (I think Matt is the one I usually end up dealing with), they're been understanding and kind, and have taken the time to explain everything ad nauseam, and have answered all my dumb questions. Also, when my car totally died and they told me it wasn't worth fixing (it was a '99 Alero, and all the springs went, due to corrosion), they let me leave my car in their lot until a junkyard could come and pick it up. There's also a night drop off - envelopes for keys with forms attached to fill out, and a drop box for them. They really make things easy and convenient. They're super busy, so if you can make an appointment in advance, then do so. If you're in the Billerica area and you don't know who to bring your car to, I'd give these guys a shot. read more

This place was a complete and utter nightmare. Would come to fix one problem with my car. Got an up charged bill with charges for services I didn't ask for. Told the owner to call me, he never did. So I went back there and asked if they could fix the problem that occurred after they had originally "fixed it the first time" More parts and labor plus more up-charging. The final straw was when I got my car back and it had huge scratches all over the side doors. Horrible horrible people. Worst of all one the the employee's called profusely apologizing and told me the Owner would personally call me. (Again) And guess what? The owner never called me, surprise. I thought about taking further action but I let is pass by. Besides, who would screw up that many times on purpose? read more

I stopped by for a oil change today (10/1/12) and they finished in ten minutes. I did not call ahead so I was expecting at least a thirty minute wait. The receptionist was very nice and the lounging area was great. I actually would not mind spending another 30 minutes watching TV. The mechanic was very honest with parts that were failing. He said they didn't need to be replaced now but at some point it would have to be done. I knew he wasn't lying because my mechanic said the same thing a few weeks ago. I definitely recommend this place, especially for inspections and mechanical advice. read more

Two separate, great experiences: 1. My check engine light began to flash and my car was shaking violently. Brought it to Dan's. Jesse, who is always great, called to tell me that my car was showing a code that means there's a misfire in the third cylinder. He explained that it could be a number of things - corroded wires, things coming unplugged, etc., and that while they were looking at it, my engine stopped misfiring and my car fixed itself (and that if it's no long misfiring, they can't tell what's causing the misfire). He told me it could happen again, and to bring it back if it did, BUT it never happened again, and they didn't even charge me to look at it. They EASILY could have told me they fixed something and charged me a couple hundred dollars, and I'd be none the wiser. These guys are thorough, and HONEST. 2. One of my wipers started going all crazy past the end of my windshield and getting caught on my side view mirror, and my check engine light came on (no flashing or violent shaking). Again, thorough Jesse called me to say that the wiper was fixed (something simple, but he told me the ramifications if it happens again), and he fixed the check engine light (another very minor issue that actually wouldn't affect my car's performance or make it break down). He also recommended that I get my tie rod ends done, which I had them do. Also had an oil change. The price was reasonable, and these guys are so thorough and honest, I can't say enough good things about them. read more
