Our fireplace is older and had a crack in the bottom of the metal. Asher explained how those happen (age/heat) and why it matters (you lose heat out the crack and can be unsafe/uncontained)-- as well as the severity of our issue (not that bad, lucky for us!). The job took (maybe?) 10 minutes and involved the lower panel being unclipped, then two gas valves being turned up a bit higher. No cleaning, no safety inspection, nor were we told before the job what the minimum change would be. The service was fine and our fireplace is now working well, but I think that even the reduced price of $200 is steep for a quick in-and-out job.

These guys (again, off the street, no truck or anything) weren't going to be who i hired. So i had 2 companies come inspect & bid (both priced the same) and i went with Ed's. Oscar is the owner, Ed's son, and he's been doing chimneys for his whole life. When the owner is actually doing the work himself (like i do) is always an "im sold" situation for me. He and his assistant were at my place, on time, at a time that worked for me, for 5 hrs/3 days. Oscar explained every detail, answered all my questions, spotted some minor leak related stuff on my roof and fixed it at no extra charge. He is VERY in tune with maintaining high customer satisfaction. He was also conscious of making sure no carbon monoxide would creep into the house. He improved upon that exact situation that a previous heating company handled in an inferior capacity. They left no mess. I found out when I called the main number again to try to reschedule that the number the techs call from to let you know they're on their way/running late/have arrived is a system number that isn't monitored by the business. So it's essentially a no reply. Apparently when the last tech had car trouble he forgot to reschedule me. And the next day when I called the number back that he called me from I didn't get an answer because that number isn't monitored. I'm updating my review to four stars. One star off because it really is a silly/inconvenient business practice to have a second system number that shows when technicians call but not monitor that number when people call it back. But that's not the technicians fault and doesn't take away from the quality of the service. My recommendation to Chimney pros is to have the caller ID number match the main line so when people call back it goes to a monitored line. Or use Google numbers that can route back to the main line or something. Previous Review: Scheduled an appointment but the tech had car trouble. No worries, rescheduled for the following day at the same time but no one ever showed.
