Green Chilis was recommended as a place to try for my birthday lunch. I'm usually a 'Mexican food for my birthday' guy, but I was up for something new. I'm glad I took the suggestion. The space is lovely, with good energy and a mix of clean and spices. I had the chance to meet the owner, who told me that he would be making some changes. I'm excited to come back and see what he does. As an appetizer, I ordered Samosa, crisp pastries filled with potatoes and peas served with fresh mint and Tamarind sauce. The Samosas were crispy, flaky, and stuffed. The Tamarind sauce is gold! There is a Lunch Menu with some good selections, so I ordered Vindaloo Chicken. It is cooked with hot spices & potatoes, and freshly squeezed lemon. It comes with rice and Kachumber. I also got an order for Garlic Naan. Leavened flatbread is sprinkled with garlic and cilantro, and lightly spread melted butter on top. It was warm, buttery, and delicious. The piece is big enough that I brought some home. One of the reasons that I wanted to go to Green Chilis was to try the Chicken Tandoori. Boned chicken legs marinated in yogurt, herbs & spices cooked in the tandoori oven served with sauteed green peppers and onion and topped with fresh cilantro & lemon. It came on a sizzling hot plate that announced its arrival with a dramatic entrance. The chicken had just the right amount of spice, char, and juices. The bed of grilled onions with lime juice made it just right for a birthday lunch. For dessert, I got Rice Pudding. Lightly sweetened rice cocked in a saucepan with whole milk & Indian herbs. I was too full, so I brought it home along with one of the chicken legs. If you are in the area, try it and say hello to Chef Paul. You can taste the love and passion for cooking in every bite. What a wonderful experience. The new owner is the chef, just took over 3 months ago. He had a successful and well-loved restaurant in Hollywood for like 14 years. The restaurant is not fully staffed yet, but what a gem it was to have this chef serve us tonight. Such an authentic person and his genuine love to serve excellent flavors really showed. We drove down from LA and happened to stop by because we were in the area for a concert. We started with samosas and it was a promising start! The filling was thoughtful and the pastry crust was perfect. Even the dipping sauces were so pure in flavor. Ordered garlic naan, tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. Every item was made with care. Flavors were specific and developed with intent, did not feel heavy at all. We were pleased with the depth of flavors and quality of ingredients. I felt blessed to have had a meal here! Haha sounds cheesy, but after meeting the chef prior to our food and experiencing his passion through his actual food was pretty special. I highly recommend. Don't judge by the "slower" service, the chef is paying more attention to the food! This restaurant deserves a lot of love, give it a try!!! read more

The service here is a 5/5 and the workers are really nice the prices are also super fair and as they are so close to a college campus they definitely cater towards that crowd. The food was ok although a lot of the dishes we got were a lot sweeter than I expected - but specially in comparison to other spots in the area. I have been coming to green chilis for over 2 years ? I think.... Time is honestly an illusion... However! What's not an illusion is their food and overall friendliness of the staff and owner. The restaurant is nestled between the shopping center with BBQ Hole Mole and the boba shop etc. Their decor is sweet, and inviting with oranges and greens to oddly make you feel more hungry. I usually get the chicken tikka masala (spicy) papadum and naan. Every time I order them they are always on point and delicious. The naan is cooked to perfection; It's crunchy and not too oily. The tikka is very good. I don't eat a lot of the chicken (my husband does) but I love to scoop the gravy up and eat it with rice and naan. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you order. I also, asked the owner what dish he'd recommend, one of them was lamb with spinach so I definitely have to try that next time. PSA: There's been a new owner for about almost 4 months. They did tell me that they were changing the name to AMDAAZ soon so be weary of that! The flavor won't change, and neither will the lovely owner. I had a Wonderful conversation with him. A co-worker and I have been doing "Indian month" where we visit several different Indian restaurants for the entire month, exploring styles, buffets, & the eats...this is by far my favorite. At first blush it looks like it is going to be a bit higher priced. The decor is not what we've had @ the other places--due to the linens, silverware, & glassware-- but pricing fell well in line of other places we've visited--and didn't look half as inviting. It shows the owner is shooting for solid presentation & takes pride in his place. I had a hot spiced tea with their lunch special -- a little meat & veg with garlic naan w/ rice. The picture (forgive me for being a terrible yelper--I dug in & kept doing so before thinking about taking a picture), shows how much I enjoyed the food. Quality does take time & something one would expect of a good restaurant. If you're in a rush or have a 30min lunch...a to-go order, ordering on their website, or calling might be your best bet; they're also working to add popular food delivery platforms. Green Chilis took over the location that Tandoori Fresh (Pakistani restaurant) occupied a little over 2 years ago. They offer a much more extensive menu of Indian/Pakistani fare including appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Ala carte curries range in price from $16 - $18 for non-vegetarian items while vegetarian curries are $14. The also have tandoori meat items priced from $16 to $20. I stopped by during lunch time and went with their lunch special. (Lunch Special - $10) - This came with rice, naan, and 1 item (chicken curry or chicken tikka masala) or a one of their veggie dishes (aloo gobi, paneer tikka masala, chana masala, saag aloo, or daal tadka). I opted for the chicken tikka masala. For $3 more you could get 1 veggie item and 1 chicken item. The chicken tikka masala was aromatic, rich and creamy with tender pieces of chicken. It was good but taste wise it wasn't as good as the previous restaurant. It didn't seem as tangy or flavorful. I asked for my dish to be prepared medium spicy and it had a nice kick to it. The quantity is on the smaller side. I had asked for no rice just like the other table seated near me, but the server brought both our dishes out with rice. The naan tasted great and was freshly prepared. Overall I thought the food wasn't bad and the lunch prices are reasonable. It would be good if they had some more variety in the non-vegetarian lunch menu. All the food served here is HALAL. A YELP checkin gets one a complimentary soft drink. read more

I love Indian food and it was some of the best korma I've eaten! We didn't eat in the restaurant, but it looked super cute, clean, and a comfy dining environment. It took less than 30 minutes for my food to be ready, so pretty fast, and everything was packaged well! The service was great, quick, and very friendly! Had dinner here a few days ago and here was my experience: Food: VERY tasty and fresh- but HEAVY! We ordered a few different dishes: Veggie Pakoras - a bit denser than I prefer, but the chutneys were amazing. Chicken Korma (mild spice): probably my favorite dish - had very rich flavor and the chicken was very tender! Chicken tikka masala(medium spice): traditional, tomato forward flavor and spice was great! Very yummy Daal tadka: very good, but just needed more salt, we had to add salt to our plates as well as in the dish to really let the flavors stand out. Garlic naan: super fresh and delicious Rice: great to support the saucy goodness! Gulab jamun: VERY GOOD. I would eat these again. Perfect sweetness and subtle rose flavor, NOT too strong which is my preference! (ORDER THESE! & eat one for me too :) ) Chai - this was very good. Traditional. They said they could make with or without masala. 10/10 for food. Ambiance: very bright colors inside, nicely spaced out tables and ample room for several families. Not much on the walls or decor, could use some sprucing up a bit IMO but it didn't take away from the experience. 8/10 on ambiance Customer service: family owned, so family works at the business. Very kind and accommodating. Professionalism lacked a bit, and they forgot some things we asked for a few times (there were only 2 tables occupied at the time we were there, including ours) but overall 8/10 for service. Green Chili's is a non greasy, healthy alternative to eating with a wonderful Indian flavor. I ordered the Chicken Tiki Masala which came with rice a traditional naan bread which was amazing! The masala was flavored so perfectly that it hit all the taste buds yet didn't overwhelm my mouth with too much spice, infect I'd say it's on the milder side of spice which might suite most people. The rice was fresh, fluffy and went well with the sauciness of the masala. My overall view of this place based on my order is that this place makes really good Indian at an affordable price and doesn't leave you with heart burn. I don't often leave reviews but... I stumbled across this place randomly on Apple Maps and called the restaurant asking a basic question (I don't often eat Indian food). The owner picked up and was incredibly kind, informative, and inviting- so I gave it a try. The food was ridiculously good and service was excellent. The inside was clean but a little outdated. I got a chance to talk more with the owner, Robin, and hearing his story was incredible. He recently took over the restaurant a couple weeks ago and has run several successful Indian restaurants in the past including in Hollywood. I was absolutely floored by how genuine Robin and his staff was. He excitedly talked about wanting to build a community in Costa Mesa and his future plans for the restaurant, including upcoming renovations. There is an intangible at play here, and I believe it is genuine passion. Passion for their food, for their customers, and for fostering a community. Their chicken biryani was very disappointing and really lacked flavor and seasoning which is what Indian food is usually known for. It was pretty bland and was in need of salt for sure. The chicken tasted old and every single piece of chicken was dry and overcooked beyond belief. Garlic naan was alright but the garlic just tasted burnt which gave it a bitter taste. So stupid for not trying this local gem earlier. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Robin, the owner was our server, probably because we decided to eat at 2:30pm. Nevertheless, we were so glad he was, because we got to talk with him. He was helpful with making our decisions on what to order, as everything looks amazing. The Naan bread was some of the best I've ever had and it paired wonderfully with the Butter Chicken. The Paneer Butter Masala was great as well.
