This review is mostly for the vegans. There's no place socal that serves vegan biryani, so we usually make it ourselves. Imagine our delight when we finally doing a place that does! We were incredibly excited to try their vegan biryani with jackfruit. We ordered the Premium Vegan Biryani Meal Set. Imagine our disappointment when it arrived and we found out that almost nothing was vegan. Biryani had paneer (cottage cheese), ghee and no jackfruit even though the menu said it was a vegan jackfruit biryani. There was raita (yoghurt) on side (instead of salan) and gulab jamun. I couldn't even find a vegetarian option in their menu, so it does not seem like an order mix up, but a genuine lack of understanding of what vegan means. Taste wise, those who ate it found it lacking spice and flavor. The presence of broccoli and peas is just weird. Portion wise they aren't bigger than any of the other places that charge about half the price for more authentic biryani if you're not vegan. Please don't advertise a menu item as vegan if it is not. read more

Stopped in for lunch for the winter Sawdust Festival. Their lunch option for veggie or non-veg Thali is excellent. I chose Yellow dal Taaka; my daughter Desi Chicken Curry. Both were delicious. The standard side dishes: Aloo Matar; Dal of the Day; basmatic rice, salad and naan were delicious. Light but tasty. Perfect lunch portions. We got there about 12:45 on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and they had to turn down customers within the hour. It was a smart move to turn away customers versus poor service. Recently came across this spot on doordash and took a look at their online menu. They seem to have more dishes there and an option for indian style english tea service in the evening. They had some dishes you don't see in other indian spots here which are authentic and local like soya chap/chop and chicken seekh. After checking all delivery options for these specific options, decided to call the place and ask if they could add these items ad hoc since they're not shown on their delivery menus on these third party sites. The owner was so helpful, he added these items and also sent us zelle instructions. The food was prepped and delivered by stipulated timeframe. Their packaging is insane! The biryani service seemed like one's right out of india. It came in a beautiful box with all sides packed nicely and separately in different slots and containers. Specially, the biryani was sooooo cutely presented with heart and flower shaped veggie cuts and an aloha flower! Biryani comes with a koshimbir/ cucumber salad, raita/spiced yogurt, and a gulab jamun sweet offering. We also got their kebabs and paneer chilly to try. Taste wise it's really light on spice, oil, salt. It's not lacking in flavor but just not overly spiced if that's something one's concerned about. Their communication and packaging is what gets them a 5 star rating! read more

Located within walking distance from the venue, my dad and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner following some music at the Summer Art Show. Our host served us some tasty chips with sauce as a starter. Then we ordered a vegetable samosa, which was pleasantly spicy. Our main entrees of eggplant, chicken tikka and fish tikka. I think the only thing we wish we'd done was ask for a little spicier! It was very disappointing. The rice was very lightly flavored, with occasional mildly spiced chicken pieces. To call it Biryani would be a stretch of imagination. 1/5 It also comes with a cucumber salad which was ok, 3/5 Raitha was ok too. 3/5 They also give one piece of gulab jamun which was the only part of the meal which is good. 3.5/5 At 27$, they are about 25% over the other places and with such bland food, I wouldn't visit again. read more

Salad, Green Chutney and Dessert were deliciously fresh tasting. Green Chutney definitely paired well chicken/rice. Chicken Biryani reminded me of Pho ingredients/favlors consisting of star anise and cinnamon sticks. I stumbled upon Biryani Hunter online. It was a very ineresting experience because I could not find the store. The address did not include "Suite F". Once entered as customer to pick up food, there was not any humans except a TV giving directions plus many small cameras for each individual restaurants. Well, I eventually figured it out and got my food. I rang the Camera bell and a staff came out smiling, said Thank you and delivered my food. You could order in person (self-serve kiosk) once you arrived. There are many other restaurants that you can self-order as well. However, we found out that the main chef was taking our orders, serving us and it got a bit hectic for him and the other staff person when more patrons started coming into the restaurant. We waited patiently to pay our bill, but kindly, please get more trained staff to run the restaurant smoothly and then we will gladly return. read more

No one was at the front counter, then when someone was there she tried to seat us away against a wall (the place was empty except for one party of 5) We chose a better table. Receiving the food was slow, again, there were very few others in the restaurant. We ordered Mango chicken What they served seemed like curry chicken with a couple of pieces of chopped mango......not good, not fruity. And $23 for a modest portion. Maybe other stuff is good, but the chilli chicken is the most unauthentic one can ever make. It's like a person who is least familiar with Indian cuisine made it. Filled with ketchup. Sweet and no authentic spices / flavor. Sorry, but this place is a no bueno for me . It was a take out so I can't comment on service or ambiance . Looks like they're good based on other comments . Truly very tasty and the biryani is authentic comparable to the best restaurants in New Delhi. And it comes with salad, raita and dessert so one order is a complete meal for two! We ate on a pleasant outdoor patio on tables with cloths and napkins. We were served goat biryani, chicken curry, vegetable pakora, and garlic naan. Service was excellent, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Before dinner, we were given an unusual but great snack that tasted and looked a bit like popcorn, except each kernel was a single smooth and round sphere.
