She sent me a questionnaire via email just as she said she would, and that I was to complete it and either send it back or bring it with me to my appointment. I was so happy I did that so that I didn't have to feel rushed completing it at the office. I went to the Barrington office which was closest for me, and easy to find. Parking was good. The front desk receptionist was very nice, everyone had masks on, and my wait wasn't long, before the doctor came to get me. I met with Dr. Karafa and his assistant. Both were very welcoming and relaxed me immediately. After going over my questionnaire and asking a few more questions, his assistant and I went to another room and began testing. She was as sweet as could be, and made me feel very comfortable. I was there a total of two hours, which went by fast. It was recommended that I bring someone else with me, but my husband had to work and I was by myself. It worked out just fine that way. Dr. Karafa scheduled a time and date for us to go over his findings via telephone, and he called me exactly on time and answered any questions that I had after thoroughly going over my report with me. I would recommend anyone to go to the Thomson memory and attention center, I'm sure your experience will be just as good as mine!

The professionalism, honesty, real and genuine concern was how things were handled. Dr. Karafa was outstanding, while meeting with my daughter he was patient, kind and helps her to do the best she could. The first appointment was canceled the day before. Things happen so I rescheduled for another day. During the initial appointment Dr. Rahman was dismissive when I addressed my concerns regarding ADHD treatment and options. She questioned the competence on my therapist and insisted that I was depressed even though I explicitly expressed that I was not. I had no feelings of depression or anxiety. She offered Wellbutrin and I declined. After a long drive to the Evanston Clarity Clinic location for a face to face appointment she reluctantly prescribed me 10mg of Vyvanse. After a week on the medication and doubling the dosage after a few days as she instructed, I had a follow up appointment were I explained how I hadn't noticed any change or experienced any of the previously mentioned side effects. At this time she responded "well maybe you don't have ADHD", and insisted again that I was suffering from depression or anxiety. She did not listen to me at all and showed a lack of consideration for what I was experiencing. I felt like this was a form of discrimination. I decided to see another psychiatric provider who gave me a formal evaluation that confirmed my original diagnosis. I have noticed a significant positive change since receiving proper medication management. It is unfortunate that Dr. Rahman made a diagnosis based on her personal biases without evaluating me herself or even adjusting medication.

Michael and I met initially through a meditation class that he offers at a nearby studio. His…read morebreadth of knowledge within the holistic healing world is INCREDIBLY expansive in nature, and fortunately for those he's healing, there is no guru/egoic-lead aura about him; he just knows his stuff and is humbled by it and has a strong desire to help and heal. There is a radiant light to him as an individual, so when I found out that he provides healing services as well, I was certainly on board. Little did I know what I would be in for- SO MUCH HEALING. His space is a welcoming environment that brings about an air of harmonious zen and it's kind of like a cool breeze, welcoming and refreshing. Clean, organized, lovely. (This to me, was just a bonus, but I know an important part for some.) We had broken out my healing session into two sessions. He was able to provide a calming herbal concoction, which was a feeling I could liken to a sigh of relief and releasing of tension. We started our session off with theta wave binaural beats, as well as a flashing light session (I'll learn the name of what it was eventually). He was patient in explaining what theta waves are within the brain, answered the questions I had (which are always a lot) and just KNOWS. A. TON. I cannot stress enough how much of a priority that is when I'm energetically opening myself up to a healer - it's nice to know that whichever healer I'm working with knows their stuff and not only was he knowledgeable but also never made me feel like what I was asking was a silly/commonsense question. It was a comforting conversation. The second part of the first session included Reiki and sound healing. Beforehand, he had asked if there were any particular physical ailments or anything bothering me in my mental or emotional bodies, which I didn't think were even there. Once our Reiki/sound session had concluded, he discussed with me the various things he had noticed about my chakras/overall energetic health, and then further investigated my current personal practices as to why it may be expressing as a heavy (yet open) heart chakra, and we navigated to a solution to prevent me from repeating that pattern. The session that followed leaned more towards the hynpotherapy aspect of his healing modalities, as well as integrated NLP with theta wave light and sound therapies. I spoke about different problems I'm sorting through and he addressed it through neurolinguistic programming approach. Shortly after that, he brought in hypnotherapy that worked in harmony with sound and light therapies. I honestly felt like I floated out on a cloud once our sessions had concluded. I was blown away by how lighter/brighter/more aligned I felt after the fact. To give you an idea, we worked through some trauma I had held for far too long, ADHD symptoms, fear, confidence, and just overall health. Friends who I have yet to meet, I cannot recommend his services highly enough. I know this was essentially a small novel that you never asked for, so I guess the TLDR; version would be: book a session, feel lighter, accomplish your goals, and feel the heal.
