This business created a new business profile likely to avoid the negative views it was incurring many years ago. Returning to ensure this low rating is captured. Similar to last time, this business will appeal to Yelp to take it down claiming it's fraudulent but that's just the cut throat business acumen behind Jody Michael. To summarize, you will waste your money using a proprietary career rating matrix that is likely to tell you nothing new by the end of your session package. If you're desperate to find a path forward, consider upskilling, get a career coach (not whatever Jody claims to be) and focus on positive mindset. For these brief sessions, you will be charged hundreds of dollars and sometimes Jody will take calls while on vacation and cut them short! She offers little empathy given the context of a client needing career support and having come from stock exchange into six figure social work she will brag about, you're paying into someone's fortune while taking from yours. All I really want to say after going through the entire process is that she charges $300 a session. Many of the sessions are $600 (double sessions). A single session is 45 mins. You will spend close to or more than $4000 to complete the process with her. As for her services--- listen its a social worker/ career counselor- so probably depends on a myriad of factors. My particular situation could differ vastly from yours so not going to go through the details. But it will cost you a ton of money-- and yes- she is out of network- so don't count on your insurance on paying any of it. read more

I was surprised to see a 1 star rating for JMA. Please be aware there might be something askew about that review. I just recently went through the 8 week process and man-o-man, what a ride. I spoke to several people prior and I heard nothing but praise. Jody is an expert at what she does. She is smart, talented, intuitive and perceptive. For anyone interested, my experience with Jody Michael was life changing. I started the process like most people probably would, curious. However if you go in with a genuine intent to discover then you will be surprised by how much you can gain. I was. If you are not willing to submit yourself to guided self evaluation then don't bother. If you think you can do it on your own then don't bother. Heck if you already know everything then don't bother because JMA does not exist to confirm your already existing perfectly crafted speculations and ideas about yourself. I went to Jody Michael at a time when my life was in a major transition, personally and professionally. I left a dream job on the west coast to return to Chicago and deal with a family crisis. Look at my reviews! I am positive and uplifting! So I am only doing this as a public service announcement. Jody is detrimental. She claims to have done doctoral "work" at the University of Chicago, yet she never admits she never received her doctoral degree. "Riding on others coat tails" is a thing for her. Trust me. She is a social worker who through very very slick marketing has reinvented herself as a coach. I must admit she is a marketing machine. But her service as a coach is a sales job indeed. The first few sessions are nothing but surveys and assessments which you pay in addition too. She kept focusing on my "family"... with whom my relationships are fantastic. I spent over 7000 USD thinking it was me not understanding things. Rather, in the end, it was her who just kept pumping me for money. I read the reviews closely, I am certain I am one of the few negative reviews. Jody did complain about the negative reviews, on my dime, during my coaching session. No, I am not joking. Jody continually had her laptop in front of her, and I know for a fact, she was not taking notes on me. It was all too clear, she was emailing others and not even aware of what we were talking about. I have only great things to say about my experience with Jody Michaels. I've felt "stuck" in an industry that is extremely stressful and not fulfilling for almost 10 years and was having trouble finding the energy and direction needed to make a change. If you are ready for a coach, Jody is the person to hire hands down. I wasn't sure at first if I was ready to be coached but after my first phone call with her, I knew it was the right fit. A few people mentioned appointments, business practices, etc. She changed appointments on me as well and I never found it to be an "issue" like others talk about. She was always very accommodating at offering new time slots that would work for me and she would work very late or come in very early to accommodate my needs. She's very flexible. If you can't work with Jody because of a changed appointment or her fees, I suspect then it's just not the right fit for you. I contacted Jody Michael Associates (JMA) with trepidation having never before worked with a career counselor. However, after the initial telephone conversation with founder, Jody Michael I was willing to give it a try and go into the experience with an open mind. My biggest questions going into the coaching engagement were (1) Would I be able to trust my career counselor enough to allow myself to share my thoughts and experiences and (2) Can they really help me identify my ideal career path? The answer to (1) was an emphatic "yes," ---working with Maura was an absolute delight. Maura and I clicked from the beginning, which I credit to her truly caring nature and her ability to both listen and interject to facilitate effective discourse. I'm an extremely skeptical person who requires evidence, and I do not make emotional and monetary investments lightly. Jody Michael Associates is well worth the time, money, and effort I put into it. I'm a pretty choosy customer when it comes to how to spend my money. And that's why Jody is one of the best investments I've ever made. You know when you go to get a hair cut and it looks good that day, but then, two months later, it looks ever more fabulous? Yeah, that's what meeting with Jody was like for me. She was inspiring and awesome in the moment, but the real dividends have come later. I find myself remembering things that happened in our sessions and using them in a real way several times a week. If that's not worth the investment, I don't know what is. First of all, she was kind enough to explain the entire process and how it would help me in MY situation before we even met. I have been trying to make some personal and career changes for a long while now, but hadn't made any real progress. Based on online reviews and looking at various other options, I decided to contact Jody Micheal Associates because it seemed like a good fit. Jody called me personally and after talking for a bit she recommended I start out with the Accountability workshop and Perceptual Lens workshop that happened to be scheduled for the next weekend at the office on Paulina. I decided to go for it and to-date it's been a great experience. Coming into the workshops I didn't know what to expect, but was willing to go with the flow. I found the workshops really helped me crystalize a variety of thoughts I've had on why I haven't been able to get out of my rut. Jody's explanations and real-world examples make a ton of sense. She explains things at the higher "how you feel" level and at the physical "how your brain reacts" level, which I really appreciated (being a fact-based person). And its all done in a very relaxed and inviting way -- you really feel at ease so you can absorb the information and figure out how it applies to your personal and/or work situation. After learning the "why", the workshop provided strategies and tools to help us move towards our goals and away from the traps that hold us back. It's been two weeks and I feel I'm moving in the right direction now and through the ongoing meetings with Jody (included with the classes), I know she will keep me on track. Jody has been great to work with -- she is very centered and relaxed but focused on you and helping you become a happier and healthier person. She spends a lot of time talking about her own accolades... some of which I found out were simply not true which was both disappointing and a little scary. I attended Jody's Perceptual Lens training, and it was unbelievable eye opening. It really helped me see how to be more aware of my thoughts and moods and how it impacts my well being. I also learned about how to understand others around me better and essentially get the upper hand. I had been struggling with some work tension and general life dissatisfaction. After this training, I really feel like I have the tools and awareness to take on the world. Jody has a very calming yet no nonsense demeanor. I attended one of Jody's workshops because it was mandatory by my employer. Needless to say I was not happy about going...anything that is mandatory by your job (especially on a Saturday) does not put you in the best mood (which plays a big part in your behavior). So when I got there all I could think was "why am I here?" and "I don't need to be here. This is a waste of my time." Because I went in with that attitude, it immediately showed - FYI...I'm so embarrassed at how I acted... lol. But... when she came out and started talking and her energy began to fill the room, I felt a sense of calmness and open-ness (is that a word??). My attitude went from a 1 (not wanting to be there at all) to a 5 (ok...this sounds interesting) to a 10 (I'm so glad I'm here :-) ). SHE IS AMAZING!!! I learned so much about myself and how I deal with being held accountable for my actions. How my thoughts & mood contribute to my behavior and my results. Afterwards we had a chance to talk and this woman brought me to tears with some of the things she said. She didn't know me from Adam and said things about me that only my mama would know...and I told her that "God sent her to me because I needed to hear a message and I receive it!!!" Jody is not just talented and knowledgeable...her spirit is blessed!! I was soooooo moved by the workshop on Saturday I came back on Sunday - YES, the woman who didn't want to go in the first place on a Saturday came back on Sunday to do the MindMastery Workshop. I met with Jody Michaels yesterday and have zero regrets. I am so happy I had an opportunity to meet and work with her. Based on recommendation from a friend's sister, I went to see Jody for help in determining a new career path and trying to find a thought partner for exploring options. The first time I met with her, I came to her home office in Chicago - spent 3 hours telling her my life story, and dropped $900. I learned nothing new, and she did not provide any follow-up advice for our conversation, or questions I should be exploring. The next time I visited her downtown office in Chicago. She came out to greet me in her waiting area, and introduced herself "Hi, I'm Jody Michaels". The genuine feeling I got was she had absolutely no recollection of having met with me previously and had no idea who I was. Unacceptable for someone in her position. Not to mention classless and rude. Several months later after I had discontinued our sessions, I received an e-mail from Jody that was intended for someone else. In it, she was very clearly trying to find some solution to a settling a debt with someone who owed her money (not me). Again, unprofessional, and careless. After many attempts at career/aptitude/personality quizzes, I was looking for something more from Jody Michael Associates, I clearly explained my career goals and found the exercises and techniques used to help me identify best strategies to be weak and as helpful as quizzes (I didn't gain any new insights during the sessions because of the dry approach). I had two sessions where I showed up and the coach would be running late, or cancel on me the day before. The service definitely has potential -- make sure you know what kind of 'coach' you want first and foremost. If conversation and understanding is what you really need, then maybe this matrix-based approach isn't the best option for you. read more

I first met Jody Michael a few months ago. After a 14 year trading career followed by some entrepreneurial endeavors, I found myself at a point in my life where i truly did not know where to go next. I went into the first session not really knowing what to expect, and somewhat skeptical of what I would receive. Spending 14 years on the floor of the CME was wonderful and financially rewarding, but once a trader hits the "real world", it can be an extremely shocking change of pace and very hard to adapt to more normal ways of making a living. Further, few of the skills gained as a trader are directly transferable to the real world, leading to a very unsettling "fish out of water" feeling. I knew that I needed help finding direction, so I took a not inexpensive gamble on Jody. Having spent at least 20 hours with Jody, I look back on the experience with nothing but appreciation. Instead of a few sessions resulting in "you should do this", I learned so much about myself, so much about what drives me, what things I should not do, and what direction I should go not just in the future, but in the present. Jody has given me the ability to look at my life much more objectively. As a person, I cannot speak highly enough about Jody. Jody herself is an ex-floor trader, and there is always a connection between traders as we all experienced the same crazy, unique world. Beyond that, her own life story is one of determination and overcoming obstacles, and I cannot imagine that many other coaches out there have the real world experience that Jody has. Would think it would be very hard to take life advice from somebody that has little of their own, and Jody has it in spades. I came to Jody three months ago feeling hopelessly stuck and looking to make a drastic change in my career path. Three months later, I've landed a job in my dream industry and have made a complete 180 in my outlook and perspectives. In fact, my last words at our last session were, "Everything has turned around for me and I am so happy." It doesn't surprise me that many of the reviews here echo my results. My only concern going into the process was that since she works with high level executives, my entry level situation wouldn't be a priority. This couldn't have been farther from the truth and Jody's genuine interest allowed me to build trust and make great strides right out of the gate. This is the same Jody Michael Associates that is located at 405 N. Wabash -- she has two offices -- so I'm posting my review both places. I started seeing Jody in May of 2010 because I felt like I was "stuck" in my personal life. I had a great career, great friends, great home -- but bad romantic relationships. Jody used a unique mix of therapy and coaching to help me understand what I wanted and what was holding me back, then get where I wanted to be. By the time I stopped seeing her weekly a year and a half later, in December 2011, I was in a successful relationship (and still am). Jody is an incredible person, and having an opportunity to work with her is truly life changing. I started going to Jody about 6 months ago - I was dissatisfied with my job, and was concerned that I was pursuing an unfulfilling career without being aware of options. After many years with the same company, I lost motivation and interest in my work. While I was quite good at my job, I no longer had any passion or fulfillment for what I was doing. I tried figuring out what I wanted to do next for a couple of years on my own and was very discouraged before finally finding JMA career coaching services. The office space is absolutely beautiful. It is professional, yet very warm. The in house library is extensive and a perfect place to do career researching.
