I had a very challenging situation with the IRS. Ed and Miyuki at Community Accounting took me on as a client. The 1st step they took was to review my situation but more importantly they reassured me that we would work towards a favorable resolution. They came up with a plan to resolve my tax issues and took over all communication with the IRS. I listened and followed their advice to a "T". The result has been a very positive outcome. I am now in good standing with the IRS. I can't thank these two enough. Awesome job, you were amazing and thank you!!!!! I would highly recommend Community Accounting for simple tax returns all the way to highly complex issues with the IRS. read more

Absolutely a horrible experience with this group.....they completely blew me off - unbelievable. I was a preferred referral from my former CPA who retired, and this organization led me to believe that they were going to take me on as a customer and "take care of things". After no return phone calls after numerous messages left...it actually got to the point where I asked them "are you" or "aren't you" going to take me on as a new client? Just tell me if I need to look for a "Plan B". They kept stringing me along with tax returns soon due, then just stopped answering the phone ....beyond unprofessional behavior! Customer beware- you better steer clear of this group. 2/14/19.....wow...absolutely untrue accusations - this is the first small business that I've reviewed on Yelp. What is very telling about this group is that it took him 10 months to respond to my review...that says everything you need to know ~ read more

I had the exact same experience as another reviewer. I actually created this account so I could review my horrible experience here. I was also referred to them when my CPA retired, and they were helpful setting up a time to meet. I had an initial meeting with them in early March 2018, and everything seemed fine. I provided them the information they needed and waited to hear back. I didn't hear anything for almost two weeks. I tried e-mailing and calling multiple times but no luck. My wife and I moved across the country late March/early April, so I was anxious to hear from them that everything was OK. I explained this information in many messages but still, nothing. After calling a few more times once we were settled in our new home, I finally touched base with someone after incessantly dialing their number one day (most of the time it just went to a voice mail). They assured me my taxes would be ready that week, and wouldn't you know it, they were sent over that afternoon. Come to find, we owed $2,000 more than our 2016 taxes even though neither my wife's or my job situation had changed. After reviewing it, I found they left out all of the deductions I provided them (I'm an independent contractor with a home office). When I informed them of that, they asked if they could have the numbers once more. I frustratingly provided them with the numbers, and that's the last I heard from them. I followed up five more times asking about our updated taxes (it was now about a week/week and a half out before they were due). About 3 days before the due date, I had to inform them of our disappointment and told them we would prepare our taxes through TurboTax. We explained we would not be using their prepared taxes because they never corrected their errors and failed on numerous occasions to respond to our questions about them. With 3 days before taxes due and their poor communication up to that point, we were too stressed out to hope they would respond on time. Now today, of course, we received a notice in the mail that we owe them $315 for the tax preparation that we didn't use. Fantastic! Money well spent for the headache, stress, and complete disregard they showed us. My guess is they either bit off more than they could chew with all of the new referrals, are disorganized at their office, or are just plain crooked. Which ever one it is, I certainly wouldn't take a gamble with an accounting firm that has any of these qualities. You're certainly better off just doing them yourselves, and with the countless of other accountants in Chicago, I wouldn't roll the dice with this one. read more

For the past three years I have had a lot of issues to sort out in order to properly file my taxes. Community Accounting Services has done an outstanding job guiding me through the process of determining the necessary documents to upload. They also were able to file my taxes on time when I was late turning in paperwork. I highly recommend Community Accounting Services! read more

I have used community accounting since I started my small business 5 years ago and am so glad I have had them by my side. Starting a small business requires many things: skill, persistence, product, etc. but 1 thing above all others: cash management. Ed and his team have guided me from running a disorganized mess to running a well oiled machine. When I need anything they are quick on the draw and as far as I can 100% accurate. Payroll team is flexible and prompt. Tax and accounting team the same. I would 10/10 recommend to all other small business owners I know who are looking for a competent firm which acts with full integrity on their clients behalf. read more

Ed Hoyne (the owner) did my taxes for me last year and this year. I normally do them myself, but due to having bought a home and other things that made my taxes really complicated, I hired him to do it. He was extremely thorough and really great. read more

My complete confidence in recommending Community Accounting Services is based on my 15 year relationship with the firm. I have used their tax expertise for my income taxes. I have experienced efficient, knowledgeable staff whose integrity has never been a concern. When the first of the year comes, I receive my tax-prep packet. Fill it out and bring it back to Community Accounting. Bottom-line they take care of my business. I have know recommended Community Accounting to the company where I work. Where do I begin?? I guess I started using Community Accounting Services in about 2001 or so...quite a long time ago. I own a very popular independent cafe/sandwich shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, which I opened in 1993. My first accountant was a very nice guy, but he was a bit wishy washy. He let me do whatever I wanted since I was young and didn't really know any better, and he never really told me the hows or whys or impact of my actions. His practice was very casual and home based, but again I didn't know any better. I don't really respond well to cold calling, but I agreed to meet with Ed for an accounting interview even though I was convinced that it would be a waste of time. All of these years later I see now that a big part of why I have survived 25 years in one of the toughest industries in America, the restaurant industry, is due in large part to Community Accounting Services, and most specifically to Ed. Knowledge is power, and Ed definitely knows his stuff. They are always attending accounting and IRS seminars and conferences around the country to hone their skills because the tax law is constantly changing. All monthly paperwork is required to be sent in a timely manner in order to keep me properly up to speed on the health of my business; everything is extremely well organized: checklists are required, vendor totals, checks written logs, all bank statements, communications from tax authorities, etc must be submitted monthly and are then electronically scanned and given back to me so that I still have them for my files. As Ed has often explained to me, they have systems in place that will ensure quality work will always get done right the first time. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for I guess! Everyone is extremely helpful and friendly. Even though some of the staff has changed over the years, most everyone stays for a long time and knows my specific situation, and even my voice when I call. Besides the owner Ed...Sandra, Letty and Miyuki are all awesome and have bent over backward to help me many times...probably many more times than I deserve ;) Even though I am "sometimes" late with my information they always come through in the end. So, basically I guess what I'm trying to say is that if I didn't trust Ed and his crew with my business and livelihood why would I stay with them for more than 15 years? I wouldn't! Many thanks guys! To attempt to describe the level of service and care of the people at Community Accounting Services is difficult, bc I have never experienced an accounting firm with such wonderful people and high quality service who truly care about their clients. I had a guy who had done my taxes for 15 years and then retired and I was very nervous about someone else doing my taxes. After working directly with Ed though, I realized it was a very good thing my tax guy had retired. What makes Community Accounting stand out in their service, is that they go far beyond in crunching numbers for you. They care about educating their clients about what is best for them, helping me to understand complex aspects of my taxes that in 15 years with someone else I had never been educated on. This is so important. Ed more than any other accountant I have ever met, really knows his stuff, and guides you to understand what is most important to an individual's specific situation. You will not find an another accounting firm out there more competent! Nor will you find another firm who cares as much about their clients as Community Accounting Services!! read more
