Our previous accountant left her firm and we don't know where she went, so I found Reed Accounting through Yelp. My husband and I had scheduled an initial consultation with Lupe since Jessica was booked for this month. We were supposed to drop off our documents with Lupe and she would start the process. Then we would schedule to meet with Jessica. But since we arrived early and with our approval, Lupe prepared our tax return. However, Jessica actually had time to review our documents before we left. Both of them have great customer service skills. They are very pleasant, professional, patient, helpful and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions. If you do go to their office, there is underground parking. I believe the sign said $10 special, but we were there a little over an hour and only paid $5. Upon arrival, there is an intake form to fill out and Lupe mentioned that they have an electronic app called SmartVault where we can download documents and everything will be down electronically, which we will do next year. This tax season, I was more nervous than I've ever been. I had not one return, but three... I slacked off for a couple years there. Yikes, right? I had an appointment with Jessica tonight, and I expected the usual. Hand over my stacks of info, then wait anxiously for weeks to find out what I might get back... or worse, owe. Instead, she sat down with me at Starbucks and did them right then and there. Three years' worth in less than two hours. As she was going, she let me know the progress, you know, so I could tally up my take. In all, I got six refunds -- one for each federal and state. Whew. By the time I got home, the returns were waiting in my email to be reviewed and printed. I was sure there'd be an error or two because she was so friendly and relaxed, chatting with me as she worked. + Business / Corporate clients. STAY AWAY! ID Theft Warning. This firm wasted my company's time and resources, and harvested our corporate and personal data for unknown purposes. I contacted Reed Accounting about handling my business bookkeeping and quarterly and annual tax filings. After submitting an online form for a consultation, I immediately received a call from Lupe asking me all kinds of questions about our business. She told me the appointment was with Jessica Reed. During the entire call, I thought Lupe was taking notes. However, she then asked me to submit​ an email summarizing all of our business details, the purpose of our consultation, etc. , which I did. Putting all the information together took a good amount of time. Well, that was a waste of my time because Lupe, nor anyone else from Reed Accounting called or emailed me back to confirm the receipt of my sensitive data, EVEN AFTER ASKING NUMEROUS TIMES. After giving up trying to get a response from anyone at Reed Accounting, I stopped contacting them and figured they were not interested in bringing in new clients, or they are up to other nefarious activity. It was completely unprofessional to ask for sensitive company information and then go silent. In fact, it is very suspicious and I have contacted the Illinois Dept of Professional Regulation about this. What was even stranger and very suspicious was that on the day before my scheduled consultation, I suddenly received an email asking me to confirm my appointment and provide MORE DETAILS?! Anyway, I want to warn everyone to NOT provide Reed Accounting with any advance person information. Who knows why they may do with it. Maybe our tax situation was too complex for them to handle, but to lure us into providing data that exposes us to identity theft, especially from "CPA" borders on fraud and negligence and is highly suspicious.
