Referred to by another contractor that did some work for us. We had some water leaks coming in the basement from around the chimney. Mike was great, he first did a thorough check to see if the leaks were coming in from the chimney or somewhere else. He sealed all the spots where water could come in and even pointed out spots I didn't know were an issue until I saw the cracks. It's rained a couple times and no leaks. Mike did some work for us in February of 2017. He did the inside of our house and was supposed to finish our front porch. He tore it up in March of 2017, and said he would finish it when the weather got better. He got a check from our insurance on 3/18/17. It's been 15 months and he still hasn't come back to finish the work. I have called him at least 50-100 times. He usually doesn't call me back or return my messages. Mike was referred to me by the rep for U.S. Waterproofing. I needed to have my chimney and other places in the bricks in my house tuckpointed because there were wasps coming in my family room. When Mike came out to inspect he noted that caulking around some of my windows needed to be replaced. I also got a quote from another contractor who was not as thorough. I went with Mike and his crew and have been very pleased with the results! Since the tuckpoint I have not seen one wasp, fly or other insect in my family room!!!! Mike, the owner, addressed an issue we had pertaining to selling our town-home. We came to find out his company actually did the masonry work on it 20 years ago when it was built!. Not only did he assess the issue the very same day we called him, he had valuable knowledge of the construction companies in the area and village building code standards. We were recommended this company due to water seeping in through the old, cracked caulk around the windows, down the wall and into the basement Mike came out, explained the entire process, found a few cracks that needed to be grouted and quoted us a price. During the repair he found that a few of the outside window ledges were pitched wrong and one was butted to the window, after the caulk cracked so much it was easy for the water to find it's way. Mike and his sons removed and ground out the old caulk, realigned the window ledges, ground out and grouted a few spots. It was a two day job, very meticulous and cleaned up each day. They were very professional, worked 6-8 hours each day and Mile called a few days later after heavy storms to see if there was any seepage, which there wasn't. The project, conducted in December 2018, went fine, although not at all good about containing or cleaning up any messes, and some of the finishes were a bit sloppy (grout left on tiles, door lock doesn't line up properly). Upon completion, he was paid in full. However, three months after it was complete and paid in full, I received notice of a lien on my property for $2,150 in drywall contractor costs that were never paid by Mike Gulde at Ancient Construction. I tried to call Mike many times, and finally he answered (he never returned my many voice mail messages). He assured me that he would get it paid immediately. I reached him once again in October 2020, and he said he would "check with his secretary about it." As of October 19, 2020, he still has not paid his dry wall contractor. This is theft, plain and simple, He was paid by me for the entire job, including the drywall work, he did not pay the drywallers, instead keeping that money for himself. Now, I may be forced to pay for the work a second time. read more
