I've been going to Oceanfront Park for many years. The first time I went to the park I met friends…read morefor lunch as they have several picnic pavilions. My last several visits I practiced beginners Tai Chi at sunset. The park is on the beach and offers a free private parking lot. This is a great place to practice Tai Chi as the ocean noizes help you relax. The grass in the center of the park is soft so I'm sure it's also good for yoga. There were a couple of public restrooms open from daylight to dusk. You will also find lots of dogs being walked in the area. If you're looking for a beachfront park look no further.

This park has everything you need, and/or looking for, and then some!…read more First and foremost, there is a large parking lot. Considering how busy the beach can get at times I'm not going to say there will always be a space open, but your chances of finding a parking space are much better than other beachfront parks...and it's free. The park not only has a large parking lot, but it has restrooms and beach showers. There are boardwalks going out to the beach as well for ease and protection of the dunes. If you are in the park a little after dusk and/or before the first light, please know the parking lot has lighting for safety. Aside from the above, there are sheltered picnic areas, a large grassy area for just chillin' or playin' around, a sand volleyball court, and educational information signs about the area/Jacksonville Beach. Plus, there are concrete figures for you to enjoy, take pictures of or selfies, kids to play on, or whatever. In the center of the park, there is a bronze statue which is considered the focal point of the park. It is meant to symbolize the dedication to preserving public access to the beach for generations to come. If you are local or a tourist and haven't been to this beach...put it on your list to check out. Even if you just want to enjoy an early evening walk on the beach instead of a day at the beach...this beach is perfect for a little something different. There is handicapped parking, handicapped access to the beach, and to the grassy area. (Please note: Across the street from the grassy area is UNF's Seaside Sculpture Park--another good place to check out if you have time.)

Staff are all generally all helpful. Front door staff try to be quick. The service desk can be quick, but lines do occur since there is generally only one or two people working it. The KidZone staff are the true gems of the Y. My daughter loved all the caring folks who watched her daily for a couple of hours while we worked out. I cannot tell you how great they are. I never used the training staff, but they were helpful when needed. The one staff member that completely sucks is the skinnier old guy with the grey beard. That guy has the ick and tried to shoo me away from equipment when I was working out on it just because he wanted it. I politely let him know the equipment would be available when I finished. The Y activities for our daughter were really great. During our time at the Y we participated in an Easter Event, Daddy Daughter Dance, Wellness Days, Christmas events, and more. This really helped us feel part of the community and I made some great adult friends. The programming staff are stars at their job. The indoor pool is amazing. My daughter went from zero swimming skills to being completely able to swim alone at 3.5 years of age. The program pool is heated and made teaching our daughter how to swim a great experience. Parking can be difficult at the Y if you come in the afternoon. Saturday mornings were also another time you would want to avoid the parking situation. It would be great if they paved the other lot and added lines. It was the Wild West down there. Additionally, folks will dent your car and not care or leave a note. Parking here with a nice car is a big issue especially if you want to avoid dozens of small dents and chips. The actual weight lifting area is perfectly fine. If you are someone that likes classic weight lifting gyms, this really isn't the place to join. You can get a great workout in, but I found folks lacked gym etiquette knowledge. Same for the running track upstairs where there are running directions for each day. The amount of folks that cannot read directions is a bit appalling. Additional areas that are great are the full sized basketball court with 6 hoops and the playground outside. I found time to play basketball every week. The one downside is no basketball league for adults and unequal time given to basketball compared to other sports. I would have loved a volleyball drop in too. Considering how popular volleyball is in the area, it would have made sense to add. Overall, the Y is amazing. There are many great staff members and many great members that made coming here a wonderful experience.

I had many questions, and Master Bill walked me through all of the steps, answers to my questions, and, of course, sage advice. We signed up for the trial, and it was great to learn the basics and get to know the structure and the people. During the trial, it was a great time for my daughter to get acclimated, focus on the routines, and the instructors were amazing! They took time and adjusted their teachings to the students and reinforced with practice it will come together. Each instructor was thoughtful, caring, and patient. Master Clarissa also helped guide me through signing up and talking through some of my daughter's unique needs. Amazing service! Our first beginners class today was wonderful. My daughter joined mid semester, and everyone has been so helpful, welcoming, and supportive! There are so many positives to PVMAA. From the application with easy access videos for practice to the scheduling, to purchasing gear, and overall, the owner and everyone there is so great at communicating and connecting. After my daughter earned her white belt on the way home, she said she was so proud of herself, and it really made her feel good about herself. Those are magic words to any parent. We shopped around, and this one for sure, hands down, was the winner. I would highly recommend it!

On the day I drove by, there wasn't much in the way of signage on the building, so I missed it at first. When I walked in, I met Megan, who was kind enough to give me a rundown. Roughly half the building is dedicated to martial arts practice like Muay Thai and Hapkido. The other half is dedicated to your standard gym equipment - weights, kettlebells, bikes, and other machines. She even indulged me a few extra moments to check out their Peloton bike, which I had heard of but never seen. The training room was kept very clean, and the equipment appeared to be in good working order. They also have showers and a sauna on site. Megan explained that when you join, you do a start-up series of sessions, where you get a personalized assessment of where you are, and guidance on how to reach your goals. After that, you can sign up for sessions depending on how much personal attention you want, ranging from one-on-one, small groups (2-6), or a grab-and-go board session, where the trainer puts together a workout of the day for you. Obviously the more personal attention you want during your workout, the more money you'll spend. What I like about the Training Loft's gym concept is that it's actually NOT designed to draw in thousands of gym rats at a 24 hour, all-you-can-lift rate of $15/month. That's with no guidance whatsoever. Assuming you can even get a personal trainer, you're looking at $60/hour or more for individual attention. The packages at Training Loft actually come in at a very reasonable $35-$45/hour. In short, I enjoyed my brief visit to the Training Loft, and appreciated Megan's energy and willingness to share her passion.
