Ancient City Martial Arts and the Training Loft

On the day I drove by, there wasn't much in the way of signage on the building, so I missed it at first. When I walked in, I met Megan, who was kind enough to give me a rundown. Roughly half the building is dedicated to martial arts practice like Muay Thai and Hapkido. The other half is dedicated to your standard gym equipment - weights, kettlebells, bikes, and other machines. She even indulged me a few extra moments to check out their Peloton bike, which I had heard of but never seen. The training room was kept very clean, and the equipment appeared to be in good working order. They also have showers and a sauna on site. Megan explained that when you join, you do a start-up series of sessions, where you get a personalized assessment of where you are, and guidance on how to reach your goals. After that, you can sign up for sessions depending on how much personal attention you want, ranging from one-on-one, small groups (2-6), or a grab-and-go board session, where the trainer puts together a workout of the day for you. Obviously the more personal attention you want during your workout, the more money you'll spend. What I like about the Training Loft's gym concept is that it's actually NOT designed to draw in thousands of gym rats at a 24 hour, all-you-can-lift rate of $15/month. That's with no guidance whatsoever. Assuming you can even get a personal trainer, you're looking at $60/hour or more for individual attention. The packages at Training Loft actually come in at a very reasonable $35-$45/hour. In short, I enjoyed my brief visit to the Training Loft, and appreciated Megan's energy and willingness to share her passion.

Called Larry on the phone and was given a warm welcome to stop by and train. Stopped by for their 5:30pm adult BJJ class which was proceeded by their kids class. You know it's going to be amazing when you have a swarm of happy and excited kids. When Larry showed up, the kids gave swarmed him and gave him hugs and high fives. Clear and concise instructions by coach Larry, he was patient, funny and unpretentious. Down to earth and amazing happy vibes all around. Every academy should strive to be like this place. The members are warm, welcoming and patient with my newbie white belt self. No one was grinding for a submission, and just rolling to be better. I felt safe and learned a lot! Out of town travelers, Be aware the Florida humidity is rough. 90min will feel longer , this is why their members are all beast modes. Remember to hydrate! Highly recommended, and the hype is real! Don't cheat your self and give this place a shot!

I tried a few gyms in town over the years, and they were a lot of the same big egos , and hostile rolls turning me away from the sport. That is certainly not the case here. Coach Larry, Bill, Martin , Yvonne and the rest of the FOYA fam have been nothing but welcoming and have made me feel right at home after such a short time. If you're a lifelong practitioner , or new to the world FOYA is the place for you.

Shoutout to our local community heroes like Grand Master Jose Delgado and staff…read more I had the honor of taking a Tai Chi class with Teacher Serpil. She was so welcoming, eloquent, and a true ambassador for this venue. The students were all very nice, supportive, and focused. They all would help each other if someone near them needed a little of encouragement. A lady even was so kind to help me, since it was my first time. Hand-eye coordination and balance is something that I have always been struggling with even more so now with multiple muscles tears and psoriatic arthritis. I live with constant pain and being able to have Hope in staying independent and mobile is exciting. I was so surprised to find out that at least half of the students had only been attending a short time. They all moved so well and kept focus on the teacher. I know this a good sign that this type of venue demonstrates high standards, masterful skill sets, and a holistic mindset. Teacher Serpil is outstanding. I later was honored to meet a longstanding students whose family even train for various skills and test out for belt levels. They focus on life training and individual development more so than just belt levels ... that is my main Joy! The Grand Master is a radiant soul and is such a powerful influence demonstrating controlled strength under the command of personal awareness of Peace in one's Spirit that manifests outwards to one's surroundings. I really am impressed with the programs available and the beautiful Hope I feel for a better future. Amen!!! I felt like went to church!!!

The instruction is very high level with small classes and lots of individual attention. Very friendly and we were all made to feel part of the family. For advanced people, the owner I believe is the only grandmaster in the US and is amazing to watch. The other teachers were also great. I would highly recommend this school.
