The accommodations were great for such an old home (you could mainly just hear louder cars from our room) and the staff was wonderful. We came here to see a concert at the AMP outside of town. Being that the rates at nearby hotels were more than I was willing to spend, I looked at local B&B's, and this one fit the bill between it's local and downhome aesthetic, breakfast being included with gluten-free options for my wife, and a relaxing bathtub for my wife to soak and relax. Eva was fantastic in ensuring we had everything we needed. She is an absolute gem who made us feel at home and welcome. She helped us with some concerns and requests. With a house that has been in existence since 1853, as indicated by the plaque by the front door, this has the historical aesthetic and the comfort to match. The lobby area has some lovely velvet sofas shared with the dining area, where you can have either white or red wine or water, for example. The porch is also nice for a glass of wine, people-watching, and enjoying life as it passes by. Food-wise, they served breakfast if you're able to get to the lobby before 9:45 PM. Technically, the kitchen is open till 10 AM, but don't push your luck. But it's nice to have some coffee and breakfast, whether it's eggs and French toast soufflé or whatever is on the menu, and then you're off for your day. If you are gluten-free, make sure you mention it in advance so they can accommodate you. Our room was lovely, with a comfortable four-poster king-sized bed, a classy dresser, and nightstands. No closet, but there are knobs for hanging up shirts, pants, and dresses if you have clothes hangers. I liked the complimentary dark chocolate when we arrived as well. The room we had for our stay had a hot tub and a shower with multiple showerheads. Once you figure out how to use both, it is heaven. It allowed us to live our best lives. My wife enjoyed the tub immensely, then, after the fact, enjoyed the bathrobe. I liked that the toilet was in a separate room from the sink and shower/hot tub, especially, if you need to go and it goes sideways. The outdoor patio is also nice if you want an afternoon drink, fenced off from the street, especially if you want to smoke a cigar. We have already booked for a concert we are attending in July. And that date will not be the last time we book at the B&B. It is grand.

Check-in is just weird, since management has decided that a kiosk with a video service rep on another continent is the same as in-person help. The kiosk is loud and the service rep unfriendly- but after waiting our turn, we got our keys and moved into our ocean view balcony room. Then we saw that in order to get to the 1-acre "private beach" (FYI: there is no such thing as a private beach in FL, only private access), families were having to carry their children and run across the busy highway between trucks in a sprint to avoid death. No crosswalk, no flashing lights, not even a sign asking cars to be aware. On the other side of the highway, the sand is washed out and uneven sandbags act as a makeshift stairway to the beach. The ironic & defunct wooden stairway to nowhere with a "hotel guests only" sign appears to get more maintenance than the functional beach access. But whatever. We can run across a dangerous highway for a good beach. We went out to explore the city and had a fabulous night, only to came home ready for sleep around 10pm to a room at 80 degrees & extreme humidity. Turns out they turn off your a/c when you're away. I called the front desk but the help was off-location (overseas) and gave me a number for the "regional manager". I immediately called and was sent directly to vm. I told his vm how upset we were. Then we couldn't sleep until the temperature finally got below 75... after 1am. The a/c took forever to recover. He never returned my call. The next day, we had a nice breakfast in the lobby and then hit the beach before exploring more of the city until around 11pm. We returned to the hotel to see people literally running out with their bags warning us about the cockroaches. We just wanted sleep - but our room was 80 degrees again! Again, I called the "front desk" in another country and was given the phone number for the "regional manager". I called and left a nearly identical message from the night before. No response. The next morning, we checked out. The regional manager never has reached out to me. The front desk never followed up. But we did receive an additional $17 charge for a wash cloth that was apparently stained beyond recovery. (It was lipstick. It got on my dress, too. Came out in a regular load of laundry.) The food was the same each morning, but great for a bagel and coffee and maybe a piece of fresh fruit. Very quiet at night. No problems with parking. Small pool and lots of seating areas outside. Staff was working outside making sure all was presentable and taken care of the 4 days we were there. Checkin was different with a robot type setup. Quick and easy. DJ the manager was easy to talk to and helpful when we called a few times before our stay. Would recommend for a quiet place to stay without all the big commercial hotels and loud surroundings. Only negative is that the parking is not included in price. $19 and tax per day.

Erica told us that they do not honor third party sites and that the third party site lied to us about the booking and they do not offer complementary items. The only positive outcome to this was meeting Galene and her doing her best to fix the issues that the property owner/manager would not. She provided us Breakfast on the morning of the 29th which was amazing. Parking spots are very small, the rooms which have been "updated" are small, grey and do not match any of the pictures from any of the hotel booking sites or even their own website

Our first visit a few years ago was honestly adorable--the kind of cozy, charming bed & breakfast experience you hope for in a historic town. This time, there were definitely some changes. Let's start with the positives: The location is still amazing--right next to one of our favorite spots, Pierre's Pub, which makes it super convenient for a fun night out. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the pillows were perfect, and the weekday front desk receptionist was hands-down the highlight of our stay. She's always so warm, friendly, and accommodating--truly a gem. That said, the overall vibe felt different this time around. The lobby has been redone and looks nice, but it seems to have lost some of that quaint B&B charm we remembered. The courtyard, which used to be such a welcoming place to relax with coffee or breakfast, felt a bit run-down and not as well maintained--like something was missing, even if we couldn't quite put our finger on it. We stayed in Room 4 again, and just a heads up: it's on the third floor and requires climbing into the tub to shower. If you have any mobility concerns, this could be a challenge and potentially a slip risk. The biggest change for us was the removal of breakfast. It's now just an inn rather than a true bed & breakfast. While they did send an email about this after booking, we didn't fully realize the impact until we arrived. For us, that morning coffee-and-breakfast experience is a big part of why we choose B&Bs--especially in a place like St. Augustine where there are so many great options. Parking is also a few blocks away, and while maps are provided, it can be a bit confusing to navigate at first. Overall, it's still a good location with comfortable rooms and wonderful staff, but it didn't have the same warm, welcoming feel we fell in love with before. For that reason, we'll probably try a different bed & breakfast next time--just personal preference.

Fine at a Busy Time of Year…read more I wanted to go to St Augustine's "Nights of Light" celebrations and activities. Due to health issues, I didn't get to book as far in advance as I would have liked. When I did book, there weren't a lot of options in the B&B category. At Journey's End was on my list of places I would try and they did have a room for my 3 nights. I chose the Howard Carter since it is in the original house and has a large balcony to sit on. At Journey's End isn't a B&B in that they don't serve breakfast. B&Bs will also often have a little happy hour. And the hosts live in the home as well. So there are opportunities to meet other travelers and get info from the host. Here a manager comes in for a short period mid-day to clean rooms. I don't really care for AirBnBs for the same reasons--no one around and no other travelers. Anyway, our room was a bit snug, but did have a large bathroom and a large deck. I tried to sit in the common rooms downstairs to do some desk work but it was so warm I had to retreat upstairs where it was cooler. All in all, the place is nice, but doesn't really meet what I want in accommodation.

The Dunes suite was a very nice 2nd floor 1 bedroom with large bathroom with shower and tub. Also it had a small kitchen in the entry hallway and small side room that was useful. The unit was very comfortable for two and looked directly out to the ocean for beautiful sunrises. The Oceanview Cottage was right next door and was larger with 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms on the 2nd floor with parking below. The living room and full kitchen were very comfortable as were the bedrooms/baths for the 4 of us for 4 nights. And it was just a few steps further from the beach. Overall the location was very laid back, clean and great location on Vilano Beach with a very short trip over the bridge into downtown St Augustine. And my sincere thanks to the cleaning staff! They were always very friendly and helpful. This will be the first option I check anytime I return to the area.

A perfect combo. There are several cottage options connected with this company but we opted for the Atlantic Suite. Our family members also rented two other cottages including the Royal suite and one other one right below us. The Royal Suite is a bit smaller but has stellar views and a beautiful bathroom with full bathtub and separate shower. Our Atlantic Suite has everything and is perfect for a traveling family. Full kitchen. Dining area. Full roomy living room. Decent sized separate bedroom with King bed. Full bath with shower and separate sink area. We love it! Special amenities: although separate from the downtown main BnB, you get access to their amenities. Happy Hour daily. Wine, beer, and sangria. Appetizers too. And daily free breakfast (or breakfast basket delivered to your cottage). And free downtown parking. As is the case with any accommodation, this place had it's problems/limitations. CONS 1. Doors are not properly sealed so the bugs get inside. 2. The kitchen doesn't have much so you may need things during your stay. 3. Not baby safe. Many outlets including ones on the floor! Also a huge wooden staircase that leads to nowhere. 4. All of the windows are dirty (probably from the beach air and sand) and I dont think they go to the trouble of cleaning them in between guest stays. 5. The pictures of this place were probably done awhile ago because it is super run down in real life compared to pics. Still nice but the pics set your expectations to be higher than reality. 6. If you need anything from the front desk, it might be hours before they can help. This is due to the fact that the cottages are managed by the Inn that's located 10 min away. 7. Rental comes with free full breakfast and Happy Hour but the breakfast is mediocre. Given that it's free, we ate it. Good enough to eat but nothing special (the website makes it seem like their breakfasts are amazing and gourmet).
