The proprietor at this outfit refused to wear a corona mask even when I asked, and even though he claimed to have masks. All in all, it was about the weirdest business encounter I've ever had.
I found them online, the reviews were good, and the price was right, so I booked an appointment to have them replace the windshield on my wife's car.
I arrived on time, opened the door to go in, and a pit bull lunged at me snarling and barking.
I slammed the door in his face and went back to the door of the car to figure out my next move--get the eff out of there, or wait to see if the owner would come out and tune up the situation and the appointment could proceed?
He did come out and assured me, re the pit bull, "He's a baby, he won't hurt you."
Yeah, right. Don't all owners of aggressive dogs say that?
Nevertheless I went in, wearing an N-95 mask. He was unmasked, so I said, "How about putting on a mask?"
He went into loud total rant-off about how he was not going to wear a mask and we're done here and I could just leave. As the rant continued, he said they wipe everything down and maintain social distance and yada yada yada but he was not going to wear a mask, even though they did have masks.
He was shouting, even though I was only about six feet away. I said, "Why you shouting at me? I'm standing right here."
"I'm hard of hearing," he said. "I just talk loud."
At which point I wanted to say, "Yeah, so am I, and I wear hearing aids for that reason. Also, if you're hard of hearing, why don't you pull out those effing airbuds so maybe you can have a normal conversation with a customer?"
But I didn't, figuring, "What would be the ponit?"
I can't remember exactly how it happened, but somehow we both calmed down and they did, in fact, install my new windshield, and at a very favorable price. And our exchanges became normal and civil by the time I paid up and left.
Also, the work seems fine, although it's only be a couple days and it's probably too soon to tell.
As I say, weirdest damned customer service encounter I have had in a long time, if not forever.
The guy, I should say, was not the least thuggish or badass or scary in any real way. No tats that I can recall, no big muscles, normal clothes, more of a standard millennial vibe than anything else.
Obviously, we got crossways with each other in a way that may never happen again. But, still and all, it was just too damned weird. Don't think I'll be going back, but I am cheap, so you never know. The price was right and the work looks good, so I don't suppose I should say absolutely never.
Update, May 14, 8:35 pm
My bizarre encounter with this vendor has only gotten more bizarre in the past 24 hours. I'll paste a summary below and you can judge for yourself. I don't want to turn this into an endless saga and don't plan to post again, but I thought people who read my initial review of the business should find out what happened afterward, as this vendor has turned out to be more problematic than my initial review may have conveyed.
As you'll understand if you read the account below, I'm not planning to do business with these folks again.
The excitement started bright and early this morning when the owner woke me up in bed with a phone call. When I saw on the caller ID it was from Anchorage Auto Glass, I decided to let it go to voicemail, figuring there was no way it was going to be fun encounter.
I was listening to the voicemail when he called again and left another voicemail.
The first voicemail said we needed to talk, he wanted me to delete my review, and he was going to have his lawyer call me. (That did not happen, at least not yet.)
The second voicemail said he was going to keep calling until I answered.
He did not, in fact call again. Instead he fired off the following barrage of texts in the space of about 20 minutes. This is a copy-and-paste from the actual texts, no editing whatsoever:
----
AAG: We need to talk
AAG: I did you a favor and this is how you treat me?? I'm not bound by law to wear a mask you slandering me is plain childish coming from a old man
AAG: I'm giving you by the end of the day to remove that post.
AAG: If you don't you haven't paid me in full yet so I will come take my window back it that's simple
ME: I did pay in full. If you damage my car, I will call the police. If the review is factually inaccurate, I will correct, or you can add your own comments.
AAG: No you didn't, you forgot to say I waived your deductible and did you mention throwing your key, good thing I have camera's so we can show Facebook what really happened
AAG: And listen you you dialog
AAG: It's quite funny how you contradict your self
AAG: After the all I did for you this is the thanks I get , go do some self reflecting and ask yourself if that was necessary and am I a old Ass prick that I come across like
