We had the pleasure of dining at The Anchor last night for their soft opening. The Anchor is in the same location as the old Anchor Inn but is under new ownership, has been completely renovated, and offers a new and exciting menu! My husband and I enjoyed oysters, fresh Maine halibut, and lobster ravioli. We are foodies and can honestly say that all of the food was awesome! Perfect evening. Start with the setting. Iconic Maine harbor with water like glass reflecting the boats and the sunset. Greeted by Deb the hostess who is charming! Our server Marion is a professional-describes the specials such that your mouth waters...and then makes sure your every need is tended to the rest of the meal. The chef Jorge is amazing. We enjoyed local oysters to start, and a lovely bottle of wine. I had a shrimp that was prepared scampi style over focaccia that was to die for...my husband enjoyed the lemon butter poached lobster risotto. The meal was fantastic. My family went here last night & had a horrible experience. My grandmother ordered lobster bisque and got food poisoning, she was throwing up all night. The bisque tasted off from the very start, so it was definitely the food from this restaurant. Also the service was awful - the waitress was not particularly attentive and she was inexperienced. Some of the other food was good, like the scallops and lobster ravioli, but seriously the food poisoning thing is just not excusable. My grandma actually complained about the lobster bisque at the restaurant, and they didn't even take it off our bill or even really apologize. There are many excellent restaurants in Maine, spend your money somewhere else. read more

We have stayed in Round Pond several times and passed through many more times, but we had never eaten at the Anchor until last week. And let me say, we were thrilled. We got there a little early, were given a table right at the window, and then had a most delicious meal. I was blown away by the poached lobster tail, and my esteemed spouse enjoyed the haddock. The beer was great, and we were even given a couple of dixie-cup sized tastes of beers we hadn't chosen, just for next time. Between the view of Round Pond Harbor, the breeze, the quiet, the fabulous meal and professional, friendly service, we really were in heaven. The Anchor Restaurant is a gem. Still our favorite restaurant in the Pemaquid area for the last 15 years. Beautiful setting with magnificent views of the quaint Round Pond Harbor in each of the 4 seating areas -outdoor patio, handsomely rustic screened porch which is our favorite, indoor dining with floor to ceiling sliding windows that open for a touch of the outdoors, and a stylish bar. Food was excellent. We highly recommend the Lobster Wonton Appetizer if you get lucky enough to be there on a day it is offered. Delicious, sweet, succulent Lemon Butter Poached Muscungus Bay Lobster over a perfectly cooked risotto. Best Lobster Ravioli with a mushroom sherry cream sauce we have ever had. It is so concerning to see a recent negative review for this marvelous gem. Our recommendation? GO!! read more

Not even close to the old Anchor Inn other than a nice interior remodel. Menu is limited and over priced. Might be nice for one dinner for the view but not something I'd want to do twice in a week or even a month! Menu options are far too eclectic with limited choices. read more

A relatively upscale eatery in a rural part of coastal Maine, Anchor Inn puts together creative dishes, primarily focused on the local seafood that makes this part of Maine such a joy to visit. Authentic coastal maine seafood joint, right on a working harbor. Stop by the lobster pound next door after lunch and pick up some shedders for dinner. Came here a few times with my grandparents and all of us were able to enjoy ourselves. I had the crab melt sandwhich, which was excellent, and my mother loved her fisherman's stew. Whenever I am in town visiting, I hope we will hit the inn. read more

I had been looking forward to trying The Anchor. We had tried a few times before without luck. We should have never bothered. We tried a late lunch. Only 2 other parties dining. We were the 3rd. The Hostess was fabulous, very personable. Our server was sweet, and attentive, and timely- but overwhelmed: she was handling 2 of the 3 parties (both out on deck) & the bar. Of the group next to us: 2 of the 3 diners sent their meals back to be "fixed." 1 hamburger looked to be raw meat with barely a searing. We enjoyed the taco app: meat was good, & only 3 ingredients: simple & tasty. The black bean salad seemed to be an afterthought, and a miss. Not much flavor at all. They were missing ingredients for the meal I wanted, so my 2nd choice was the spinach salad. They were missing spinach, too, so I got a bowl of arugula. I ordered the 'protein addition' of salmon. I appreciate that the server wanted clarity on how well I wanted it cooked, as the Chef prefers to serve meats rare. I asked for medium well. When salad arrived, I thought it was topped with chicken: chef had (over) cooked my fish into poultry! My husband ordered the fried clams with fries. Hold onto your hats: it was $28!! The desserts were all baked. Winters baked desserts on a beautiful, and hot, summer day. I'm glad they are proud of their pastry chef. But wouldn't it make more sense to offer fresh local berries, or cheesecake, local ice cream, or even a homemade ice cream/cookie sandwich? Versus a bourbon pecan pie (which sounds delicious, and a perfect compliment to Thanksgiving). This disappointing lunch cost us $100, not including top. We didn't have any alcohol, just ice tea. The view is lovely, really beautiful- but you can enjoy it from the restaurant on the water directly in front of The Anchor- where you can enjoy larger portions of fresh seafood at better prices & bring your own drinks & sometimes be entertained by live music. Or, if you're hankering for Latin/Mexican food, you could enjoy ANYthing at the Que Rico food truck on the line between Damariscotta & Newcastle. They have limited outdoor seating but the good is fresh, made directly in front of you (quickly), is reasonably priced, and is Delicious! Without fail! I'm glad we have other options, b/c I'll not be returning to The Anchor. Surprisingly disappointing. read more

We have eaten at the Anchor In for many years. Back when it was a tiny local eating place, and watched it grow and add dining areas to accommodate the demand. The prices have gone up and are now big city prices. The porch area is now restricted to drinks. The screened-in outer porch is choice, and the view of Round Pond now is of large yachts and a few lobster boats. Seating next to the outer side is better than any inside tables. We made arrived early 5:30 PM, and were promptly seated on the porch. Two of us seated next to a party of 8. Unfortunately the kitchen got our orders and their orders mixed up:( {so sayeth the very nice waitress} We waited an hour for food. Then the orders were wrong. Then they replacement order was wrong again. The party of eight got served sporadically. We left around 8:00PM. One in the party of eight still had not been served his meal. The broiled haddock was generous and excellent. The broiled scallops were delicious but a skimpy portion. Sitting on the porch the sea breeze was enjoyable, however the occasional quiff of septic system odors was not. Wonderful seafood, tourist pricing, We'll continue going there every year. BTW: For an excellent take-out, Larsen's Lunch Box is under new ownership, wonderful sandwiches and very cheap prices. Pet friendly, out-door tables. read more

Our first time at the "new" Anchor was great. We had heard mixed reviews from others, and after our visit, I think most issues are simply "new place" issues - a lot will get ironed out as the place settles. The renovated space allows for great views from most seats, and the bar is a welcoming place to be. Blueberry martinis were tasty! The lobster ravioli was very good and the portion size was perfect. I was looking forward to enjoying lunch overlooking Round Pond but instead was disappointed. The menu was very limited. While my food was good, the service was slow and I had to find our waitress to get the check. The prices were extremely high for the food we received. After years of enjoying The Anchor Inn, I won't be back anytime soon I am sorry to say. read more

Monday night in August. Neighboring lobster pounds were busy, so we decided to upscale to the Anchor. The entrance in not exactly inviting -- a blank door and loud exhausts on roof. We entered and in the large restaurant there were only two tables occupied. Not a great sign given the buzz at the lobster pounds next door. We almost bailed, but decided to stick with it. GLAD we did. We ate off the bar menu. Delicious and inventive food, and the peach, blueberry cobbler for desert was fab. Not cheap, but worth every cent to eat good food that was way better than the usual fare in the tourist traps in Maine. read more

Excellent food and scenic location. The Anchor Inn was our favorite restaurant in this section of Maine. It is a good location in both good and bad weather with ample protected seating. Definitely a good choice for either a casual lunch or a nice dinner. We've eaten here on the last 3 trips to Maine with consistent outcomes. read more

I guess I have to give it 1 star. Unfortunately my party of 8 showed up on a Sunday to have food and drinks for brunch. When we arrived we were one of 4 parties in the Restuarant. We were seated and received water. We shortly gave our drink order and as that lingered we decided on food. As our drinks arrived we gave our food order and said you can bring it all at once. Well 70 mins later we finally got our food after multiple parties were seated served and left before us. The service was slow slow slow and not correct. This was brought to managements attention and they were unable to rectify the situation. Food was good but service was as poor as it could get. I have been going to this location for 46 years and with the new owners I will now not recommend it to anyone. Do not go to the Anchor! read more

As a long time summer resident of Round Pond, I love the location of the Anchor. We were frequent diners at the Anchor Inn, and loved everything about it. The Anchor has good food, but the staff is weird. We'll call for a reservation and they can never accommodate us at the time we request ( usually early, like 5:30 or 6pm) and it's not because they are busy. If we say 6, they say 615. If we say 545, they say 6. Then, when we get there, they are about 10% filled. They owner is borderline rude, and has no people skills. She should focus on being a hospitable hostess, welcoming her guests, or stay in the kitchen. They do have one terrific waitress, an older gal with dark hair who is hardworking, fun, efficient, AND remembers that you come in a couple times of week. She is the only one there who could have worked at the old Anchor Inn...everyone there from Jean, the owner, to Linda the bartender, to Scott the waiter, treated you as a welcome guest each time you walked in. read more

Maybe it was because it was a Tuesday night. Maybe we had the "b" crew. We have eaten at the Anchor Inn several times in the past 4 years.Those times we enjoyed it. This time we didn't. The waitress didn't know the menu. When we asked questions she replied in a vague fashion and asked us each time if we wanted her to go ask someone. Really? The lobster cakes were blah. The fried oysters terrible: way too much corn breading and only a couple of oysters were whole. No sweet tenderness inside. Even the salad was lacking. Chèvre Delight. Very little cranberries and fruit, blob of goat cheese carelessly thrown into salad. Not enough dressing. Blah. We had to keep asking for water even though I told the waitress we were very thirsty. Near the end of our dining, I went to the rest room. When I returned, the plates and water glasses were gone. Conclusion, we will look elsewhere for dining out. read more

The anchor is "off the hook" good! A huge upgrade from the previous restaurant known as the "anchor inn". The food is top notch as is the staff. In addition, the building has gone through a nice make-over, and is far more aesthetically pleasing. I will say the food is not cheap.... But the quality is certainly on point. read more

We headed to the anchor after seeing the menu in our rented house and after one person in our party had been there in years past. We were expecting what we saw on that menu, lobster, typical fried seafood plates etc... We were pleasantly surprised to see the renovations and menu upgrade when we walked in. Dark wood floors, fresh beachy feel overlooking the water. The menu was much smaller but much more thoughtful and modern. All dishes that were ordered were great and our waitress was wonderful and totally accommodating to our 2 young kids! Would totally go back again next time we're here! read more

Was here the week of July 4th. Had the lazy man lobster with filet mignon; wife had the large lazy man lobster. We both added the chowder and dessert for a few bucks more. Was probably one of the top ten meals I have had in my life. We were staying in Rockport but had visited Booth Bay Harbor that day, so Anchor Inn was somewhat on the way back to our hotel. Spent Labor Day weekend at Pemaiquid Point, we decided to try the Anchor Inn. What a waste of time and money! We were a party of 6 adults and two children. The servise was terrible, The food was barely passable. They had run out of salad greens. (on a Sunday at 6:30pm) The special children's mac and chhese with hot dogs, had NO meat what so ever. We asked (unsuccessfully) for water several times. The waiter, (who was obviously in way over his head) told us that they usually added 18% gratuity for large parties but that they would not in this case because we had experienced some problems with the meal. I told him that he was darn right that they would not add 18% gratuity for the meal. They should just accept who and what they are and add a burger on the menu and leave it at that. read more

we went to the anchor inn every sat. night for 9 yrs. when we lived on pemaquid point. the in-haddock was the best and my husband would get the "out haddock" the calamari was the absolute best-and we were living in r.I. at the time. last tues. we were staying at the Bradley inn in pemaquid and brought friends from mass who we raved to about the anchor inn as we were told it was the same. no way! no calamari, no in-haddoclk in parchment, no haddock period. when we ordered desset it was advertised as blueberry crisp-wartmed with ice cream. when it arrived was two pieces of cold blueberry cake. asked to havre it heated and came out almost as cold-what a disappointment. why change things when a successful former menu was so popular. $90.00 lighter in the wallet and so disappointed by all four of us. on to another location our next trip to the area. read more
