Yay! The sweet potato taco far exceeded my expectations. The sweet potato was cooked to perfection with a slightly crisp exterior and a creamy sweet center balanced with the black bean and sweet corn salsa, avocado and other fresh ingredients. I also ordered the steak asada taco and it too did not disappoint. I do think however the sweet potato taco was the best. The home made tacos and the fresh fried corn chips along with the ancho salsa was also delicious. Amazing for a chain! Our waiter made a couple of errors but quickly corrected and provided excellent service in a busy restaurant. Yum! Sorry I did not take photos because the food was demolished. read more

Recently tried the esquites, chicken burrito, tacos, and plantains. The plantains were really good and cooked perfectly with a really nice sauce. The tacos were solid too, and the duck taco special was a unique surprise in the best way. The only downside this time was finding a small piece of bone (or something hard - too hard to be a corn husk or something)in my chicken burrito. Otherwise, everything was delicious! read more

The tacos were delicious! It's between $4.50 and $5 per taco. You can mix a match and there is a solid variety of options. They also have a good number of yummy apps. They were pretty Judy when we got there but the turn around time was quick and the food was fresh. Cute spot with nice vibes. read more

Kai was a really great server. Friendly, efficient, and had a nice balance of being there when we needed something without being overbearing. Atmosphere was lively as usual. The margaritas were absolutely amazing! The queso and Mexican corn scrumptious! The pork belly, taco salad and the cake kind of fell short. The taco salad had so much going on and while the flavor was good the cold ground beef I just couldn't get past it. Pork belly was on the chewy side. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The restaurant itself was nice too. Just don't know if we'd go back again. Although I tend to go with 3 strikes and you're out so maybe we will. read more

I took out lunch from here on a weekday. Steak and chicken burrito was my favorite item. I also went for 3 tacos. There were some interesting flavors of taco. I went for one Nashville hot fried chicken, chicken tikka masala and blackened salmon each. I thought it was just ok. Especially the chicken tikka masala flavor was not as good as I expected. read more

I had a work lunch here, but it had the presentation of dinner. Well put together with eye appeal; unique, not so "run of the mill Mexican", very unique taste, at least to me. The server was attentive and upbeat, although the check ins were a little too infrequent. A great lunch spot, plenty of windows that let the natural light in. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the area. read more

The food was average. My quesadilla was extremely sweet. Unfortunately, the server was beyond rude. My 3 friends and I arrived at 7:00PM for our reservation. It was very busy and took quite a while to receive our drinks. We put in food and appetizers at once. The food came out extremely fast.. it was a little overwhelming and I wish we had time to enjoy our appetizers. The server came out with boxes before we had even finished eating. She brought the bills and was clearly in a rush for us to leave. She started having us hand her silverware because she couldn't reach and even took our waters away while we were finishing (it was 8:15PM and I guess they close at 8:00). My friend noted that you could make reservations up until 7:45 online. I asked the server what time they close, trying to hint that we felt very rushed. She flatly said "8:00" and took more items from our table. We felt so uncomfortable trying to finish our drinks that we took them to the bar and left as fast as we could. I mentioned our discomfort to the bartender and he did not care in the slightest. The waitress was rude and distracted the entire time. I don't think I'll be giving this place another chance--especially since I've had bad service before. This experience really put a damper on my night out with my friends. read more

Amazing! Second visit was just as good as the first. Great vibe. Great food (have had tacos, enchiladas, and a burrito). All amazing. Service was spot on both visits with two different servers who were well trained, knowledgable about the menu, and friendly. This is an easy five star. read more

Food: 5/5 Service: 2/5 Ambience: 5/5 Great vegetarian food, beautiful open space but really bad customer service. Got our food 45 mins after ordering, after continuously reminding the waiter for it. Our waiter seemed to have his family visiting/ dining there that day and he was completely distracted. Drinks had ice despite asking for no ice. We had to literally beg for chips and salsa refills. Have better management A&A, have a floor manager making rounds to ensure service. No matter how good the food and ambience is, if service is poor, you will lose your edge. read more

Beautiful spot with incredible street corn. Ancho & Agave has some of the best Mexican street corn I've ever had--it's a must-order every time. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Every dish I've tried has been full of flavor and really well-executed. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with a stylish, welcoming atmosphere that makes it a great place to bring guests. Whether you're out with friends or hosting visitors, it's a spot that never fails to impress. read more

If I lived in Madison I'd go here quite often. The atmosphere is great and such a vibe for this area. Drinks were really good. The spicey marg was recommended by our waiter and I really liked it. Good choice if you like spice. My wife got their horchata marg which was delicious. If you like sweet it's well balanced. This was a special. The tacos are great. Not all of them were my jam. The kung-pow chicken shouldn't be a taco. The fish taco should be a little smaller and a bit more sauce. Overall though, this place was great. read more

Good margaritas if you stick to basics. Dinner - Every time I've been here I've asked for guidance on less spicy. I get it - Texmex is on the spicy side. But like clockwork, something is always too much. Very few options for non-gluten items other than the tacos. Most recent visit (today) had probably the least attentive service. Left a lot to be desired after several visits. Husband really likes it but for me, it's just meh read more

Today was my first time and this restaurant. I was searching for a restaurant that offered a good happy hour with reasonable menu. I thought I had found it however, service was below par. 1 of 3 hostess greeted me when ai walked in the door (the other two stared at me). I say at the bar and was 1 of 7 total people at the bar. The female bartender looked at me and continued chatting with two men to my right side. She never greeted me or attended to me. After those 5-7 minutes, a male bartender greeted me and I gave him my order: over the course of 1hr and 35 mins I was asked if I needed anything twice and it was only after the male bartender was occupied that the female bartender asked how I was and refilled my chips. She then proceeded to engage in conversation with two males to my left. New customers arrived at the bar and were immediately agendas and offered drinks and food, while I still waited. The Manager himself made rounds, refilled the salt containers next to me but did not utter a word. It was uncomfortable but it was extremely disappointing. I am deployed to serve disaster survivors in the area and region and was treated like an outcast and (if I felt some sort of way) discriminated against at this restaurant. I will never step foot in this restaurant or refer anyone to their place ever. Having been a manager for casual dining facilities that grossed over $1Milluon I two months, this will never be a place ai return to. read more

We had a party of 4 adults and a 10 month old child. We were seated in a booth and asked for a high chair. We were told they couldn't put a high chair at a booth so we asked to move to a table. There were plenty of tables. They wouldn't move 2 tables together so we could use a high chair in place of a chair per their policy. Jeff the manager refused to move tables as he said they were taken. Only half the tables were occupied. We ended up leaving and went to Biaggi's, they were so accommodating. I don't think I will ever go back to Ancho & Agave. read more

First impression was great and great atmosphere and good service. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. Basically each of our menu items didn't match what was described on the menu. Taco salad had no corn, black beans or avocado and instead was dressed with salsa and black olives. The white bean chili was more like a thick cheese dip and the enchiladas were so over sauced with mole sauce it overpowered the meal. The server said they are in transition with a new menu but beware what you order. Guacamole was awesome! read more

I've been here multiple times and every time is just as good as the last. I always order my go to which is the pork belly quesadilla. Great tacos, tasty tres leches cake and Spotted Cow on draft! I highly recommend this place.

Ancho & Agave offers quality mexican food with fun and creative spins of the traditional favorites. I've tried most of the tacos here and haven't had one I disliked. My favorites are the Carnitas, Shrimp Acapulco, & Smoked Pork Belly. My family absolutely loved the guacamole, too! They have a fun list of delicious margaritas and the ambiance is so lively! This was a fun place to eat while visiting Madison not too long ago. We went with a couple of local students and another family for lunch. There is ample parking outside. When you walk in, there are these eye-catching light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. They were so pretty, I took a picture. The restaurant was full and busy, yet we were fortunate to get seated right away, though they were six of us. We were seated right away and our server was great. One person in the group had a nut allergy, and she was conscientious about making sure that was addressed. There were six of us and we each ended up ordering a plate of 3 tacos each, and I think we tried almost every kind of taco. I had the avocado, cauliflower and chicken asada. Others in the group had some combination of these along with the carnitas, shrimp acapulco, barbacoa, steak, and baja fish. We also picked up a couple of orders of tacos to go for a couple of college students who couldn't join us for lunch. Everyone enjoyed their tacos. They were yummy and reasonably priced. This is a great stop for those in the area, and I'd definitely come here again to try the other kinds of tacos I didn't taste the first time around. read more

My husband and I visited Ancho & Agave on a busy Friday evening! The ambiance was a very fun, lively casual atmosphere with an industrial style eatery with a very nice bar with a great selection of some of the best tequilas! We enjoyed our spot behind the bar where we could watch the game! Ancho & Agave serves Mexican inspired cuisine such as street tacos, burritos, fajitas, salads including signature salsas but more Americanized with a twist on Mexican flavors. I wouldn't dine here if you are looking for actual authentic Mexican cuisine made with traditional Mexican ingredients. They have a wonderful cocktail menu including delicious fun crafted cocktails, margaritas, and wine! I highly enjoyed my tropical Mai Tai which had a super cute presentation! My husband and I had to start our night ordering the Traditional Queso & chips called Armstrong which was made with seasoned ground beef, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo! It was absolutely delicious and satisfying! For our main course my husband ordered a chimichanga while I ordered the chile lime grilled shrimp and steak sizzling fajitas! I also wanted to try out some tacos ordering the grilled Baja fish taco and Nashville hot fried chicken taco! My husband was very happy with his chimichanga! I enjoyed my chile lime shrimp fajitas which were very flavorful but my steak fajita meat was super tough and extremely hard to chew/rubbery but it was very nicely seasoned with a beautiful presentation! I wish they would take the time to tenderize the steak as it was extremely hard to chew or they need to get a better tender cut. I enjoyed my tacos but thought they were bland and nothing special. Overall, the service we received was excellent! We had a really sweet wonderful server who was super prompt, attentive, and friendly. However, the food was okay and more on the bland side. I also believe less is better. Ancho and Agave adds alot of extra ingredients to give more flavors to their food menu items. For example, I was weirded out with all the extra additional ingredients with my Nashville Hot fried chicken taco which comes with pickled carrots, golden raisins, lime aioli, & cilantro. I personally don't like raisins on a taco. We enjoyed going to Ancho and Agave more for the exciting lively experience, fun atmosphere, and the awesome drinks but the food was average. read more

Service here was terrible. They took over an hour to get our order to us, the order was incorrect, and when we mentioned it they replaced it with a plastic bowl of just lettuce. My friends took me here while I was visiting and I already can't wait to go back! We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table but it was worth it. Now, the queso isn't necessarily my type of queso, but it was pretty good. My drink was good and strong. The star of my meal was the pork belly quesadilla. This quesadilla was so good, the pork belly was sweet and salty, the corn added an interesting but good texture, and there was lots of cheese. My wife and I have been coming here for years fairly regularly, and we often order the same things, so we have a pretty good idea of what menu items are supposed to look and taste like. Based on our most recent visit, they have made significant changes to the ingredients resulting in overall lower quality food. The guacamole we were served did not taste fresh and house-made like it normally does. It tasted like it had way too much onion and was very tart. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they bought it prepared as it tasted and had a slimy texture like grocery store prepared guacamole. Still $9 though! The avocado serrano salsa on the steak tacos was obviously different. It was watery and also very tart, very fragrant (not in a good way), and tasted like you ate a handful of pepper seeds. The carnitas tacos used to come with crumbled queso fresco. This time, they had some kind of shredded cheese product. This didnt affect the flavor of anything that much, but was the most obvious ingredient substitution. All that to say we were pretty disappointed with our most recent visit and hope this is a short term change. They're obviously trying to cut costs which is a shame because we've generally had a good experience with the food and service in the past. read more

I have been to Ancho and Agave many, many times. My favorite thing is the queso (it's the closest I've found to Texas queso in the Madison area). I've enjoyed the margaritas and Brazilian lemonade. The rest of the food is fine. I do really like the steak enchiladas and the shrimp fajitas. Most of the food is more expensive than I have seen at other Mexican restaurants in the area. The main reason for this review, though, is the service. When I am seated at a table in the bar area, the service is atrocious. I've had to ask another waiter to bring the check because my waiter completely disappeared after bringing my food. I do dine by myself so I'm not sure whether that is a factor. Sometimes the restaurant is quite full when I receive this poor service, but I went today just after they opened and it was still incredibly slow. I have now received this extremely poor service multiple times, so I will not be returning. read more
