My friend and I met for dinner to catch up. We were not familiar with Casa Zaragoza and decided to give it a try. It turned out to be an excellent choice! The food was great and the staff friendly and helpful in guiding our selections. There is a HUGE TV that was showing what we believe were street scenes of Mexico City; it's beautiful. We learned that Casa Zaragoza is a reincarnation of Cuco's Mexican Restaurant that used to be on Buckeye Road. I don't go out to eat very often though this is definitely a restaurant I'll revisit. read more

We had seen the good reviews of this newer place and had wanted to try it out. We stopped in for an early dinner on a weeknight with friends. The dining room was very brightly lit and pretty quiet. I started with a Mexican draft and dug into the chips and salsa. Two of us ordered their enchiladas one with green sauce and the other with red. The verdes order came with the pork carnitas piled on top - very tasty. The rancheras version were cheese enchiladas and also very good. The service was good and the prices were a bargain compared to most places these days. The restaurant has a large parking lot. We will return. read more

TAKEOUT ONLY!!!! My party of 4 arrived for a cinco de mayo dinner seeking margaritas and tacos. The space and ambiance was amazing for the holiday. What we were met with was a difficult evening to say the least. So much so that I decided to document every interaction with a timestamp, just to confirm I wasn't going crazy. As a previous servicer and bartender this was the most ridiculous experience I've ever had at a restaurant. See below: * Arrived at 6pm and set a reservation for 4 and was provided a 30 minute wait * Followed up at 6:28pm and was provided a 30 minute wait * Sat at 7pm * Water chips and salsa at 7:05pm * Server requested at 7:22pm * Drink, food, and apps ordered at 7:28pm * Second round of water chips and salsa at 7:43pm * 3/4 Drinks arrived at 8:04pm all of them made incorrectly and taken back. Discount requested and denied with attitude, "we are busy". One of these drinks being a bottle beer (almost an hour for bottled beer). CRAZYYYY * 2 more drinks came back still made incorrectly at 8:10pm (regretfully accepted) still missing the 4th * 2/4 food arrived at 8:12pm, one of the food wasn't anyone at the table. Random food order set back. Silverware requested... * 2/4 food arrived at 8:13pm, correct, but still no silverware. * Personally inquired silverware at 8:17pm, food now cold. * Gauc still not received at 8:19pm when asked about it, response was "I don't know" with a smug shrug after requesting off of the bill. I finally received the first apology of the dinner. * 4/4 food arrived at 8:24pm. Missing drink acknowledged and no apology given for the inconvenience. * 4/4 drink arrived at 8:32pm. * Food was still tasty, service 0/10, Food finished at 8:43pm * Checks requested at 8:51pm * Check was received at 8:59pm as a singular tab after requesting separate checks * Bill was paid at register at 9:07pm so that checks could be split up. During the duration of our dinner we watch 4 other tables have similar complains about their dining experience. One by one we watched as the complained and proceeded to leave without food or drink. My party was patient enough to wait an hour for a table on a busy holiday... we were understanding of the craziness that a restaurant and staff goes through in these situations, however what we were NOT prepared for was an insensitive and evasive service that at points had us questioning if we had done something to their staff to have it out for us. At no point was it communicated throughout our dining experience that things would take as long as it did which led us to be frustrated, hungry, and somehow thirsty. Have been waiting to try the Casa since they announced thier opening! Finally stopped in for lunch today with my wife. We were greeted promptly, and offered our choice of seats. The outside of the restaurant looks great, and very inviting. I'm hoping my next visit will allow for outdoor dining in the very good looking patio. The inside of the restaurant looks just as inviting. Our server was sweet and knew the menu, offered us the lunch specials. The chips and salsa were great. The chips thick, and crisp, the salsa fresh and just enough heat. I ordered the lunch special enchiladas, with chicken. The beans were wonderful, not your typical refried beans. The rice was typical.. perhaps the low note on the plate. The enchiladas had a lot of meat, amd the sauce was so rich, very flavorful, and everything was piping hot! As it should be. My wife and I loved Cuco's on Buckeye Rd., and when we found out they reopened here under their current name we had to try it. It's just as good as it always was: amazing food, service, and atmosphere. This is easily our #1 spot for Mexican food in Madison, and that says alot because Park St. is full of great Mexican food. The Queso Fundido is probably my favorite appetizer of any restaurant in town, even better than cheese curds from anywhere. First, the chips and salsa were great. The salsa had a little bit of heat without being too spicy. The shrimp fajitas were seasoned perfectly, and the shrimp were not overcooked. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling this way. My husband and I have eaten Mexican food in over 20 different states, and this ranks up there with our top 5! Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. Lots of parking available in the lot. It was busy inside with most tables filled and lively music playing. We were able to get a table right away and the waiter brought us chips and salsa. Each table had several different hot sauces which I thought was a nice touch. We ordered guacamole which was very fresh. I ordered one gordita with steak and two pastor tacos. First thing I noted was the portion sizes. I thought that the gordita was a little pricey, however, it was sizable and filled. The tacos also had a lot of meat. I was only able to finish one taco and half of the gordita but they were excellent. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and tasty food! read more

My husband has heard about this place on a Madison based podcast so we decided to give it a try. Medium sized front dining room but looks like they have a big event room in the back too. We ordered the appetizer trio with bean dip, guacamole, and cheese dip. All were very fresh and delicious. I ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras, which was 3 cheese enchiladas with steak on top. The entree came with beans and rice and I added the guacamole salad. The red enchilada sauce was so tasty!! Great flavor and the steak on top was a delicious addition to the enchiladas. The beans and rice were very good as well. Tasty!! My husband ordered the Arroz con Pollo and one chorizo sope and thoroughly enjoyed both!!! A really solid outing at the newly opened CZ. A brightly lit (maybe too bright) dining room with a small bar tucked into the corner, was packed on a Sunday night. Service was quick and helpful. Full bar. Huge choice of items on the menu. Opted for a carnitas gordita, steak taco, and chicken fajitas. Portion sizes are generous and quality of ingredients was there. Loved the carnitas filling in the gordita-tender and rich. Super excited for this addition to the Park St, corridor. The new kid on the block is going to be a good one. read more

Went there tonight when another restaurant we'd originally wanted to go to had too long of a wait. What a find! This may be my new favorite Mexican place in town! Tortilla chips were warm and clearly made on site. Salsa was terrific. I had the best carnitas taco I think I've ever had (I had it Mexican style - with corn tortillas). My husband loved his dish, too (enchiladas supreme). Since it was his birthday, we split a piece of tres leches cake for dessert. Excellent! This place is amazing, I have to say it's wayyy better then la hacienda, el pastor, el jalapeño, and los gomelos. And don't get me started with the service it's top notch. We chose the place to celebrate a special birthday event and were a party os six. Called the same day and the manager was pleasant and professional and took our reservation. Reached the place around 630 pm and it was already crowded and were shown to our reserved table While we waited for our friends to join, we ordered drinks ( great choice of beets) and it came with chips and salsa on the house. Chips were crispy and tasty, we asked for a spicier salsa and they promptly obliged. We ordered other appetizers (guacamole) and was good. The chicken fajita entre was hot and well made, tasty and served with generous portions of rice and beans. Other steak entres and fish tacos were equally good. Fried icecream was a great dessert. We had high hopes but our hopes were dashed quickly. I grew up in the southwest U.S. I have lived proximate to Mexican food (because I'm Mexican) all my life. The beans smelled fishy, the rice was middle of the road, and the enchiladas made me think AGAIN that good Mexican food is tough to find in Madison. i was looking forward to this place for a while and finally got in to try. The lighting is really bright, and the music was a little loud to have a convo with others at your table. Ther servers were johnny on the spot and very kind and accommodating. I ordered shrimp fajitas, and the plate was heaping, however the shrimp still had the shells on, so I needed to pick them out and take shells off in order to make my fajita. hands got messy digging around for the shrimp and was really no fun, and kind of ruined my dinner. the manager took off my meal and apologized and said they would look into why the shells were still on. I will go back and try again. This was our second time going. The first time everything was so flippin delicious, that's why we went back again.
