Surprisingly good Tex-mex. They've got a lot of combinations -- most of them are alright. Regarding their tacos / enchiladas: The beef has tiny cubed potatoes, it's not strongly seasoned. Their chicken is a little dry. The cheese is very good. Ultimately I've found these to be hit or miss. Where Laredo's really comes alive is in their steak and chicken dishes. I could eat their Pollo Loco and/or Parilla on a daily basis and count ourselves lucky, same goes for their Carne Asada. For the quality they are quite affordable! read more

We order food from here two times and both times is was an awful experience. My wife ordered chimichangas with chicken. Which is a fried burrito then covered in red, green or white sauce. Hers was not fried and by the time she got it it was a wet soggy flour mess. I ordered hard shell chicken tacos. I picked the 1st one up to eat it and the chicken had socked through the corn tortilla and it all fell out onto the plate. Both times I did get my meals refunded and we sent the food back. We went to Taco Bell and had a wonderful dining experience for less. And I'd like to add the chicken was incredibly dry the chicken at Costco is moist and delicious they should buy it there in bulk and use it in their dishes and add a little Mexican seasoning you'd get more customers. I'll start with the best: the complimentary chips and salsa were yummy. I prefer chunky, homemade salsa not red runny salsa, but this red runny salsa had great flavor. The guacamole made at your table was also very good (I make this at home, so it's not new to my taste buds, but it was good and I love avocados). Since the menu has no options with verde sauce and pork (my favorite) without their cheese sauce (ew) or their creamy cheese dip (really? Cheese dip? Ew), I had studied their menu a lot before my trip there. I tried to order the Burritos Mexicali with beans not meat, but the waiter said that the beans were refried not black beans when I asked. Nope. Who doesn't serve black beans? Who serves refried beans in a burrito? On the side, sure, but not in it as the main ingredient. Ew. Ok, I had to order something else, which luckily I had another back up plan from the menu. Enchiladas Guadalajara, even though this will be chicken and a red sauce. I guess I'm just used to west coast Mexican restaurants in cities with huge Hispanic populations because this menu was difficult for me. Back to the food... Enchiladas Guadalajara has a lot of shredded chicken inside each one. If you like chicken and mild red sauce, this would be a good option for you. The red sauce was mild to the point of bland. Luckily the entree had a spoonful of guacamole to make it taste like something. The rice was bland. The refried beans on the side were bland. This is a good rendition of an American version of a Mexican cantina. We went there for a late Sunday lunch and the place was fairly empty. The waitstaff were efficient and pleasant. As we ordered the guacamole, it was made to order right at the table. It was very fresh and great tasting. This is worth ordering. The menu has quite a variety of dishes from which to choose. If you are not very hungry, you will be able to share one dish and be quite full. If you order the guacamole and eat that with chips followed by a whole main dish you will need to be rolled out of the restaurant. There is ample parking and it is very close to the East Towne mall. This is a great spot! I met up with my family here for my birthday. The service was 5 star - everyone was attentive and friendly. The decor is fun, which automatically put me in a fantastic fun mood. As soon as the waitress found out it was my birthday, I was given a choice between a birthday shot or dessert. I took the shot! It was actually very good tequila too :) They start you off with chips and salsa, both of which I was a huge fan of. I loved the salsa! It is a finer blend, which I prefer over the chunky vegetable salsa. A little zip but full of flavor! The menu is quite large. You can find the usual Tex-Mex fare along with some unique menu items. I chose the Chicken Tinga Tacos, which were AMAZING! I loved the marinated chicken meat and the seasons were perfect! Of course, no Mexican meal is complete without a maragrita! I opted for the rainbow margarita, which is blended with different flavors. Blue was the best, it is always the best in a rainbow margarita :) It was very fun and very tasty! I'm used to TexMex and this is a good option in town. I hardly eat Mexican/TexMex outside of Texas and California. Their rice is great. Nachos are good. I love their Mini Chimis and their Queso. Note: their drinks are STRONG (specifically house marg). Staff are awesome and super attentive. Food comes out HOT. Prices are a bit more pricier than I expected, but they have a lot of options and the portions are large. Plenty of parking and seating! Great for groups, couples and individuals. read more

My daughter and I have fun going around the Madison area trying Mexican restaurants and rating them mostly on potion size, price, horchata, salsa, cheese dip, and chips. Portion of Horchata & Cheese Dip were huge, worth it. The $10 soup I order was probably 6oz total (small) but it was really good. I got the tortilla soup. My daughter's enchilada was pretty small in size as well. She said it was 3 bites. Most entrees on the menu were around $13 which is kind of a lot of us. The chips in her opinion were "not her favorite" however I liked them. Homemade I would guess. The service was okay, just there, nothing special-nothing terrible. And that's our rating for Laredos. This is your fairly typical gringo Mexican place. I say this as someone who is very much a gringo. To talk about what was good, I sort of have to cover where there's room for improvement first. It'll make more sense that way. * The first cup I received for my drink had a huge crack all the way down the side of it that leaked Coca-Cola all over the table. I really don't know how they missed this one, but it was about one firm grasp from giving a guest an unexpected shower. * The men's room could use some attention. It didn't look like it was dirty, so much as that it needed a bit of maintenance. I have a couple of pictures I plan to upload, but I'm not sure they do the scene justice. The sealant attaching the urinals to the walls has begun to peel and the porcelain itself is discolored. There is a sheet of mirrored stainless steel that has, over the years, become tarnished and hazy by age and presumably some less-than-gentle washings. Covering most of that mirror was a half filled-out world cup bracket (at this point the tournament has been over for more than a month) declaring Mexico the winner (nope). My fiancée reported a similar condition in the women's room. * The service was...Abrupt? Curt? Brusque? You know what I'm trying to say. It's not that either the hostess, the guy who brought chips, or the server were rude--they weren't--but neither were they particularly hospitable. Requests, questions, etc were--whenever possible--met simply with emotionless, quick, monosyllabic affirmations. * The food came out disconcertingly quick. I recognize that this is a weird thing to bring up as a negative, but understand that the time from placing our order to the food arriving was probably less than 10 minutes. Being quick is great, but even Applebee's isn't that quick and they just microwave things. In fairness to the restaurant, Mexican food lends itself well to being put in a pot and kept heated, then served out as necesarry and I'm sure that is what happened. Their menu states that their food is made fresh daily, but I've frozen burrito filling I've made at home and gotten the same exact texture as what I was served here so I would question that bit. The positive, and there is some: * For a quick burrito that I suspect was frozen that morning, it was actually pretty good. The flavors were all well blended and the result was something I was happy to eat. I ordered a burrito that was covered in a delicious cheesy, creamy sauce (the Rio something, I don't remember). That cheese has just the right texture and flavor to complement the burrito and I can't recommend it highly enough. It might be a bit heavy if you're not into cheese though. * The fresh salsa brought to the table had good flavor. It wasn't as hot as I'd like for myself, but when I'm with my better half I'm used to compromising on hotness, so it was okay (even though I'm coming down with a cold and I was hoping to find a food that would clear out my sinuses!). * The prices were outstanding. I would have expected to pay 1.5x the price of what they charge for any of their dishes at most restaurants. With certain lunch specials you can eat for a little over $5, more if you get a drink. That's just wonderful. Ultimately, I'd recommend this place to friends and family who I know aren't ready for a "real" Mexican experience. I have to admit that I was a little bit surprised in that the food was actually pretty good. I'm not sure why I was expecting otherwise. I guess because from the outside it just looks like your standard cookie cutter Mexican restaurant. Hell maybe it is. Been to Laredo's a few times before and it was never my first choice. Now that l am a yelper I thought I would give it another look. Came on a Wednesday night and they had a large margarita special, it was good and was not light on the pour, all Mexican help and that enhanced the atmosphere! We were well taken care of! If you're looking for dinner with the kids, another reason to consider this place. They have a wide variety of options that are decent sized and well priced for pretty much any palette. The reason for only three stars is that there is nothing about this place that is memorable after you leave. The service is average. The decor is average. The chips and salsa are average. Even the table-side guacamole is just the same as every other tableside guacamole you've ever had. Not saying the food is bad at all, just in order to get a higher rating for me, you must have at least something that makes me say "holy crap this is delicious" or have the most amazing ambiance ever! I've been to Laredo's three times now, and it just doesn't do it for me. The food is fine, but nothing to write home about. + pretty cheap + lots of combo platters so you can easily mix it up - chips/salsa not that good - food is only average Tonight I ordered the chimichangas. Instead of one big one, you get two smaller ones. Since you get two and your choice of chicken or beef, I asked for one of each. They brought my platter, and after I took a bite of beans I noticed our waitress hovering over me with another platter. She explained that "this one" had one of each, and that she was going to take the one they gave me and "just throw it away." A waste, because it wasn't really that big of a deal if they'd brought me two of the same; there was no price difference and I wasn't dead set on having one of each. As it turns out, I think they had originally given me what I asked for and took it away, because my replacement plate was two chicken chimis*. Food trashed for no reason, and potentially the correct order (or they plated it incorrectly, twice). *Their idea of chimichangas are really just bigger-than-average flautas; they were open-ended and have no filling aside from the meat. They also offer flautas, I wonder if they're just the same thing. Other blips in service: - served everyone but one person at the table, and took forever to finally bring them their food (soup) - we had three kids with our group, and their parents explained they were going to split a meal between the three of them; the waitress didn't bring any extra plates, so we made "plates" out of napkins So, yeah. Holy yuck. I have been to Laredos in the past. Not bad for the American version of Mexican food. In fact they have this one unique dish called Pollo Yucatan that is actually pretty good. I've tried to mimic the creamy salsa verde sauce. But even that fell short tonight. I didn't want a heavy plate so I ordered the enchilada and taco combo platter with beef. DON'T DO IT. I can't believe you can get a worse dish than that. The ground beef was the driest ground beef I have ever had. And the sauce was bland. The best thing on the plate were the refried beans. Those weren't too bad but I pretty much spent $11 for $0.49 of beans. The staff seems bored and irritated to be there. That is never a good sign. I might try this place one more time when I'm in the mood, but c'mon....if you are competing with American styled Mexican against Pedro's who is blocks away....you are going to lose. read more

This is an old stand-by. If I could give 3.5 stars, I'd do that, but it's not quite a 4 in my book. They are solid, consistent, and have friendly service. I think the food is good, and there is a lot of it. Tostadas are consistently soggy on the combination plates, which frustrates me a bit, and when guacamole comes as part of a dish, I find the portion to be too small. I do appreciate the chips and salsa (although there's never enough salsa and I'm constantly asking for more) without a ridiculous uncharge found at other Mexican restaurants. I will continue to visit occasionally because it's a quick and uncomplicated in-and-out for lunch at reasonable prices. Fantastic Mexican food, servers are good about refilling drinks and generally kind but not overbearing, which is something I personally appreciate. Decor is a little over bearing in some ways but not so much that I feel the need to dock any points. The salsa that comes with the free all you can eat chips is average, but what you really want is the cheese dip. Trust me, its fantastic. When it comes to the main course I've been many times but it didn't take long for me to find my favorite dish, Pollo Laredo's is simple, delicious, and something the restaurant should be proud to have its name in. Eaten best with rice with plenty of that tasty cheese dip drizzled over it. it IS a very cheesy meal but as a proud Wisconsinite I certainly don't mind, especially when paired with perfectly sauteed mushrooms and onions, as well as delicious thin sliced chicken breast. read more

Wow, have they gone down hill. We ordered ground beef burrito's (ala carte) to go. Got them home and my 2 were almost all potato's, very little meat. It was literally eating potato's with red sauce...and the sauce was watery with no flavor. My husbands 2 were even worse. Both were so flat they looked like rolled up tortillas with no filling.
