Came here the day before my bday for one thing- the birria tacos. They at phenomenal!!! We got the chops and guacamole and chips and queso, 3 birria tacos (and tried a couple tamales since they have them on the weekend.) Service is always quick and kind. Food was delicious . Birria was juicy and flavorful. Both pork and chicken tamales were delicious. Absolutely a great place for delicious food and great service. The decor is taco related and adorable. Stopped by this place on the way back from Northstreet because I had been craving a torta. I can tell it's a hot spot for birria based on reviews but I can say that the torta is also solid. I chose asada and was satisfied by the tenderness of the meat, the bread was the right choice, the toppings were great and the side of fries were nice and crisp. It also came with a side of green and red salsa, which were both excellent. I also got the elote in a cup which was a good size for the price, and the horchata was well made but I wish it had a bit more cinnamon. They have a great sized menu so there are more options I'll need to come back and try. I've already got my eye on enchiladas de mole (a personal fave that I struggled to find outside the Midwest) and pozole, which I'm sure will be popular when the cold weather hits. Service was great and efficient. I took my order to go but there were a handful of tables available. There is a small parking lot that is shared with a couple other businesses but nearby street parking shouldn't be awful if it comes to it. read more

Stuck between 3.5-4 because I wanted to enjoy the tacos! Place is clean and seems authentic. Got the birria tacos and was just not impressed. Two of the three tacos fell apart after the first bite, didn't even get to dip them into the consommé. The consommé didn't have much of a flavor but probably because of birria hype so I had high expectations. I'd stick to regular tacos because it's not messy and I'm not a big fan of shredded beef vs the other meats. The only l thing I liked was the red sauce/salsa and the freshness of the food. I cannot recommend the birria tacos enough. They are the best I have had in the entire city. I was there during a mid-afternoon lull and the staff sat down for family meal while my friend and I were eating. The whole staff was friendly and happy that we enjoyed our food so much. I'm reviewing this based on a delivery order that I got from them delivered by a third party delivery service. I got the birria tacos and my order came with no onions, just as I had requested which was very appreciated. The tacos were very tasty and had a nice amount of meat in each one. The order comes with three tacos and they were slightly bigger than what others sell. I struggled to finish the third taco but did so because it was so good. I will say the birria sauce had a little bit of heat but nothing overwhelming. I usually go with mild dishes and did find that theirs was a bit spicer than other places. I would describe it more as warmth from the spices than anything really painfully hot. My partner decided to be adventurous and get the birria ramen. Much as you can imagine it essentially is the meat in the birria broth with ramen noodles. It also had tortillas filled with cheese on the side, which he dunked in his ramen. It was a fun and creative spin on the dish. The portion was huge and there were plenty of leftovers. The final thing that we ordered was the elotes, which is served off the cob. The taste was amazing. The corn wasn't too soft so it had a nice texture mixed with the blend of spices, cheese, and mayo. Our delivery came very quickly so the preparation was pretty quick. Stopped by because we saw it on tik tok and wanted to try the fries! Huge portions and good options, where we felt it fell short was with the seasoning. It really could have used some salt! The torta was good - a little different because there were beans in it, but the bread was fluffy, and the steak was cooked well. It was a huge sandwich though so I could barely finish half of the sandwich. The mango juice was good! I would definitely get it again. The fries were good, but again missing some salt, and could have used more meat. The service was quick, and the restaurant itself was cute! My family is from Guadalajara and we are very proud of our cultural dish - the torta ahogada. Torta ahogada is a Mexican sandwich that is "drowned" (ahogada) in a savory sauce. The sauce starts to soak up in the crunch bread that in-turn has an Italian beef like it factor when eating the sandwich. This Torta ahogada did not disappoint as the bread was fresh and had just enough of a crunch needed to leave an impression. The sauce was savory and pleasant; therefore, I couldn't have been any happier to see my sandwich drowned in it. The cheese and carnita filling was superb, and the amount of onion served with it was a nice compliment to the sandwich instead of being too much as often seen in other Tortas. Both my son and I were extremely impressed with the Torta ahogada and both of us would gladly order it again. The tacos campechanos (steak and chorizo) were equally as delicious. The ambience was pretty typical of a taco spot. I appreciated the art work and the effort that was put into the ambience. It definitely feels like a modern taco spot the way it is decorated. It also has a selfie wall with el taco de chapi neon light for those who dig selfies and Instagram pics. The restaurant was very clean and orderly. The service was great. We were greeted by the owner, he took our order, and he checked in on us multiple times ensuring that we enjoyed our meal. Overall I was very impressed with this little hidden gem in Madison. Visited on a Friday night and it was a bit busy for the dinner rush around 6pm. Parking lot is a little tiny but you can enter from east Johnson or East wash. Small diner like setting but very quick service! The birria tacos were so flavorful and filling. I had a side of rice too since the tacos come alone. The Jamaica was very good too! Enough items on the menu to choose from but it is not super extensive. I will be revisiting soon to try more items! read more

Solid taqueria on the east side. Fast casual setup where you order at the counter and take a number to have the food brought out to you. No alcohol at this point which was a bummer as there is nothing better than tacos and a margarita. Food was solid and ample for the money. My taco dinner included pastor, campechenco and alambre with a side of refried beans and rice. Of the three, I loved the pastor. Sweet and savory with a nice sear, It was perfect. Randomly heard about this place from a coworker. Popped in and the food was superb! Flavors were there and presentation was on point. Their agua de jamaica was a little sweeter than I prefer but I love it so it is what it is. Very generous portions and the food came out very quickly but was fresh and juicy. Our usual taqueria was closed on Monday, so after viewing the high ratings on Google reviews, we gave El Capi a chance. Unfortunately, the burritos were really bland and "deflated." The frijoles on the side were sad, tasteless, not refried and in fact, were not even completely mashed. The rice was flavorless. If I had closed my eyes, I would have sworn I was eating at Taco Bell. The decor was plastic and harsh, so we took it to go. We substituted beans and rice for French fries, so I don't know if that was why it was so expensive. It is not because they were overstaffed. I felt the burritos in their tin foil as I got back in the car. They were barely luke-warm. The counter person was nice, but not enough for me to ever come back. read more

Had business on the East side of Madison and found this place cause... well... tacos. It's not even Tuesday, but I needed tacos. So, I gave it a try and I'm glad that I did. Two asada, one chorizo, one pastor. Holy cow these were wonderful. Was offered salsa and asked how hot and she gave me a verde and a rojo. Yummy on both counts.
