I hired Alex to clean up the brush/trees and lawn at my rental property after the previous tenant made a complete mess. I got several estimates from gardeners in the area and he was responsive and price-competitive. Another consideration was he was both licensed and insured. Not everyone is so having this liability coverage important and will save you a lot of headaches if you have problems. The brush was all trimmed, dead trees were removed, and the dead lawn was removed. The cost to put a new lawn was too expensive so we went with the option to reseed which was roughly a savings of about 5-6x. We did consider removing the lawn and putting in rocks instead but it wouldn't have looked as nice. An unexpected cost of changing the sprinklers and one of the pipes was something I didn't want to hear but Alex did the repairs quickly and also programmed the sprinkler system to ensure the lawn was watered properly during the reseeding process. He came back a few days later and checked the sprinklers and the water coverage was reaching the entire lawn and landscaping. He also agreed to come back in about 4 weeks to readjust the sprinkler to lower the frequency of watering to conserve water and have the system work more efficiently. I scheduled for ANC Landscaping to come out on Thursday morning, and they arrived on time and were friendly. After spending about 15mins looking at my front and backyard they left promising a quote for the work (removing a lot of rock from my yard). It's been a week and I've received nothing from them, nor during their time here did they take any sort of measurements or anything. I don't necessarily fault Alex or his company for this as I do understand it is a big project. But at the end of the day it did feel like a bit of a waste of my time to take time from work to meet with them and show them the scope of the work. I did provide my address in advance allowing them to see it via any map app or site. My 2 star rating is due to the above, I can't comment on the level of their work or anything of that nature as I honestly don't know. But if you have a big project you need done it may be in your best interest to skip ANC and look elsewhere. read more

I consulted with Alex and his son to trim three trees, which were very large and hanging over my neighbors' fences. He gave me an acceptable price, and we agreed on a time. Alex showed up a little later that we'd agreed, but he did text me and let me know that he was running late. He did a great job of trimming the trees and even did some trimming of other vegetation in my back yard. And they did a great job of cleaning up both in my yard and in my neighbors' yards as well. All I can really say at this point is after hiring this company I was left upset and disappointed. This company is unprofessional and untrustworthy. I asked to get a quote to remove 2 trees and also provided multiple photos of what I wanted to get done. They reached out immediately and asked to stop by the property to look at the trees to provide an estimate. After looking at the trees, the owner provided me with the estimate and later scheduled a time to meet to sign the contracts. When I was reviewing the contract, it stated the service they would be providing were to remove both trees and stump grinding for both trees. I asked the owner (Alex) if stump grinding meant they would be removing the stump and he said yes. I proceeded to sign both contracts for the price he had initially provided on the estimate. They began the project 4 days later and after a few hours into their first day, Alex asked to talk because there was an issue with the contract. He proceeded to say that they overlooked the price for this project and would be requiring an additional $2k+ to continue because they would not make any profit off of the original price given. He also offered to refund me whatever I had paid already and they would pick up and call it a day. He did apologize and proceeded to make excuses that he had been busy lately and their office didn't look at the price before sending out the contract. My immediate thought was how unprofessional this was for a company to not only admit they made a mistake on the price but to ask their client to pay up for their mistake to continue the project. Also, how do I know he would really refund me or he would just keep my money? In my opinion and many others, who I have asked regarding my experience with this company, have agreed that it is wrong for a company to do this and typically a company would take the loss to save face. After giving it some thought, I figured I would agree to the new price and give this company another chance as we all make mistakes. I requested a new contract with the new price and was given one later that day. On the "final" day, I went to go check up on their progress and Alex said he wasn't going to be able to finish grinding the stump because there was cement....how does cement get inside a tree??? Since he had been claiming there was nothing he could do anymore, I asked if he would at least remove the roots that are above the surface and he told me he would bring an axe to remove it by hand. Hours passed and he let me know the project was done. When I went to check, he told me they did their best and could not grind the stump anymore because there was dirt and there was no point of grinding anymore. First you claimed there was cement...then you say there's nothing but dirt left. Clearly nothing but lies. After he had left, I went to check on their work and started removing the dirt they had placed on top of the stumps. The stumps were still above the surface and were clearly visible after moving the dirt away. Seemed like they had moved dirt on top of the stumps to cover up their unfinished work. And no, he didn't remove or touch any of the roots like he had said he would. Alex emailed me the final invoice for the final payment the following day and I responded letting him know I would not make the final payment until the project was complete. I also provided photos of how they had left it. He immediately sent me a text message asking to speak on the phone and I let him know a response to my email would be appreciated. A couple hours later, he sent me a follow up email apologizing for the miscommunication and for not explaining the difference between stump removal and stump grinding. I wasn't asking about a stump removal, I was inquiring on why he didn't complete the stump grinding. He proceeded to say he would finish the project later that same day and the following day at no additional costs!! I didn't get the chance to respond as I had been working and an hour later received a notification that he had arrived to my house. And no, he did not arrive the next day to finish the project because he claimed he had finished already. By then, I was DONE with this company and yes, there is still parts of wood peaking above the surface. The way this company handled themselves throughout this whole experience was unprofessional. Even with knowing your client is upset they do not try to make up for this terrible experience they have put you through. This company makes unfulfilled promises and clearly doesn't care for returning clients or referrals. I hope his workers at least got paid fairly since they did a good job knocking down the trees and didn't damage the property. I hope the owner learns from this experience and improves on the way he handles his business with his clients, as this is not the way to keep clients long term. read more

I recently was looking for a company to replace my backyard lawn with new sod. Alejandro (AKA "Alex") came out to assess my situation and give me a quote. He seemed like a friendly and sincere individual. However, I chose NOT to hire his company because his estimate exceeded other estimates that I got by several thousand dollars! Alex installed a tree root barrier so that the roots wouldn't continue to lift up the cement slabs; he also performed grinding done on seams in a cement patio so that it would be more level & not a trip hazard. Alex was easy to work with, on time with the project, & did a great job on the projects as well as cleanup upon completion. The pricing was competitive, not the lowest and not the highest, and was reasonable. He even talked to difficult neighbors to make sure they were not impacted by the dust during the project. This is a professional licensed company that I will retain for future work & definitely recommend to others.
