This place is one of my favorite place in my neighborhood that I can always rely on for a great treat. When I first came in here, I was just hoping to check out their ice cream selections at their ice cream counter. I do see them serving smoothies, juices, and other drinks. There are also sandwiches that can be made. If you ever get a chance, I would take a shot at their Ham & Bacon sandwich which only cost me $5.50 for a foot long. However I was curious about why the place was called Ana's Bionicos. There was no indication on what bionicos are for until I checked out on the Internet. Then poured in with a healthy servings of either yogurt or sweet cream based on your choice. They have different sizes ranging from a small servings in a little box for $4.50 to a medium that is around $7 to a bigger party tray for about $50 (which do require advance notice). The Bionicos (By-O-Nickels) are awesome. It's great for dessert or you can treated as fruit salad for meals. It's one of my favorite treats whenever I would stopped here along with getting a papaya smoothie. I had to admit I had gone to many different Bobba tea shops and this place serves out the best papaya or mango smoothie I had ever tasted. Yes, it is a mighty high praise in what this place can do. The people that worked here always friendly and very welcoming. If I ever had a question, they are very patient with it in answering it. The place is very small with a TV showing Spanish tele-dramas on screen. There are also plenty of different traditional Mexican snacks and treats around the counter you can purchase. There's just so many to choose from for your desserts. Anywhere from a milkshake, ice cream shake, fruit juice drinks, and the ever popular bionicos. Ana's Bionicos is a small Mexican themed juice bar in Norwalk that carries reasonably priced milk shakes, salads, sandwiches, tortas, ice-creams, coffee and specialty items (bionico, raspados, diablito). It had been a long time that I'd not had a bionico (fruit salad topped with sweet cream and nuts) so I decided to get one a couple of days ago. Ana's Bionicos is located in a small strip mall on Rosecrans where parking is tight but manageable. Upon entering I saw that it was a primarily to-go place with a couple of tables to eat-in. Ordering was straightforward. I got a small bionico ($5.5) with everything to-go and then waited with the other two people who had ordered before me. I did not have to wait very long as the Bionico was ready in 5 minutes. Tate-wise it was very good. It had the standard fruits like apples, strawberries, mango and papaya topped with granola, sweet cream, coconut flakes and raisins. All the fruits were fresh and the sweet cream was definitely sweet but still not-to-sweet. The small serving size was also huge and it successfully satisfied my cravings. Pricewise it was in-line with the standard pricing for Bionico ($5.5 small, $8 medium and $11 large) that I've experienced in Torrance and Carson. So, my second venture into Ana's Bionicos was due to hubby's need/want/hunger for cueritos (wouldn't touch the stuff myself), my boy's need/excitement to play the video games, and because it's right next door to Candle Light Bakery (our first stop at this particular shopping center) Ana's Bionicos is in the same shopping center as R & G's market (formally Crawford's) on Rosecrans and Studebaker. It's a small place with maybe 4 to 5 tables that seat 3-4 people each. There is an "entertainment wall" with video games, T.V., and one of those lose-your-money-really-fast-on-those-crane-grabby games. On the opposite wall from that is the "ice cream wall" where you can choose from your traditional American ice cream (ice cream sandwiches, cones, push pops) or your Mexican ice cream favorites (mango, coconut, walnut, vanilla, etc...). Hubby ordered the cueritos tostada for himself and a carnitas torta for me. Total order was $8.00 and some change. We decided to dine in to let the boy finish playing his video games. We didn't wait long for our food, but then again, we were the only ones dining in at the time. According to hubby, the cueritos were a bit on the soggy side, but that they were alright. My favorite part of the carnitas torta was the bread (hubby said it was the "real" torta bread, telera) flatter than the bollilo but just as soft. The carnitas were okay. It was moist and pull-apart-ish, but I thought it lacked in flavor just a bit. Avocado, lettuce, tomato, and jalepeno slices finished off the making of my torta. Hubby pulled the "Valentina" hot sauce from a small hot sauce table on the entertainment wall. The sauce had a really nice flavor, kinda smokey, nice heat. My first visit resulted in two Bionicos. One small with no strawberries or papaya for me, and a medium with everything (strawberries, apples, melon, papaya, bananas, raisins, coconut, granola...) for the rest of my fam bam. I forgot how much I paid, but the price is well worth the amount of fruit and goodness you get! So it's 11am at work and food is what's on topic, so I do my daily perusing on yelp to see if I can find anything appealing for the lunch hour. Ana's Bionicos got the lucky click today and based off the reviews, I decided to give it a shot. Figured I'd get myself a dollar BRC(easy on the cheese) and then have myself a go at what they call bionico. Now what is a bionico? "A bionico is a Mexican specialty fruit and cereal snack. Actually it makes a great breakfast or lunch. In the traditional version various fruits are used including Papaya, Banana, Apple, Mango, Melon. The fruit is cut into bite-sized pieces topped with granola, raisins and then sweetened milk is added." So after getting there, I glanced at the menu for a brief moment and then decided to get a medium bionico with creme(they also give you the option of yogurt or cottage cheese, I believe.) Since I was splitting it with my brother, I requested that we get the creme on the side. The bionico came with papaya, bananas, cantaloupe, apples, and strawberries, alongside also came some shredded coconut and raisins. The quality of the fruit was on par and the strawberries were on the sweeter side which is a good thing. Overall I'd give this place about a 3 to 4, so that makes it about 3.5 to be specific. Reason being is that I only got to try one item and that one item was pretty much just chopped up fruit with granola, raisins, and creme. The creme wasn't bad...Not too sure what it was, but I'm thinking it was sweetened condensed milk. It wasn't too sweet, but just sweet enough. Now that I think about it, I'd probably go with the yogurt just because it "sounds" a little healthier. All-in-all, my brother and I were satisfied. The medium came out to $8.25, I believe. Bionicos, never heard of it or seen it, so in my world it didn't exist until I read Mike's review. Unlike everyone just reading his review and giving useful and cool votes, I actually went to the place to give it a try. Get up out of your seat and go to these awesome places you read about and THEN yessss there is a step two, REVIEW IT haha Anyways, pretty darn good. I also got it with sweet cream, the girl at the counter recommended it in a heart beat instead of the yogurt. I'm curious to taste it with yogurt though...hmmmmm....I guess next time. The fruit is freaking fresh and huge chucks. I loved it. You know, at yogurtland some of their fruits they just bust it out of the can and you can taste the added sugar madness in them too. A definite hole in the wall! My boyfriend and I visited this place in hopes to find good chamango. Fortunately, they had more to offer than just what we originally came for. For the two times I've been here, service is always on point. But I always suck it up and go because their crema tastes delicious with the fruits. Their prices are decent compared to La Michoacana's around town for their bionicos & fresas con crema (about $2-5 less depending on what you get).
