This review is for the Anara spa pass (purchased through Resortpass). This was a perfect way to spend the last few hours before our red eye flight out from Kauai. The spa area itself is small, but very relaxing. The women's area has locked rooms, outdoor rain showers (all with privacy curtains), 3 more accessible showers with doors/curtains, a steam room, sauna, and hot tub. All the bathroom amenities were provided including hair dryers, curlers, and straighteners, moisturizers, deodorant, and even SPF. I was also given slippers and a robe. Unlimited towels are available as well as scented cold towels to use after the saunas. There is also a tea bar, iced lemon water, iced tea, and snacks (almonds and a fruity trail mix). Food is available for purchase (with some hidden fees) and you are not allowed to bring in outside food. However, the spa pass does allow for in and out privileges so you could leave for food. The common area consists of some tables, a warmed lap pool, and 2 very hot jacuzzis with some loungers. We appreciated that most of the loungers were under the building's overhang which provided shade while sitting outside. There are also a few "wellness" books provided to read while lounging. Officially, the spa is supposed to be cell phone free, but this was not enforced. Complementary parking for the day was included in the pass, so we were able to explore the grounds of the hotel which were stunning and access the beach side walking path through the hotel. Just make sure to get your parking pass validated! I would highly recommend this experience, particularly if you want to decompress, shower, and change before a late flight. read more

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for about a week and were taking the red eye to the mainland on our last day. It was my husband's and my anniversary so he treated me to the 90 minute outside massage. They give you a locker, towels, a robe, and slippers. The co-ed area has a lap pool, two jacuzzis, and a tiny cold plunge (more like a seat). You can order food from a phone. They had iced tea and flavored water along with nuts and candied fruits. On the women's side there was a sauna and steam room that smelled like eucalyptus and a cold shower if you get too hot and a jacuzzi. There are cold small towels throughout to wipe your head, shoulders, or wherever. You wait in the ladies area before being called into a hall with bathroom along the way and rock waterfall. There's another co-ed sitting room with more tea water and apple bananas and cold small towels with recliner chairs. Then you go into a jungle looking area with small huts where you get your massage. I very much enjoyed my massage and felt like I went to outer space at least twice. I forgot my worries and came to the conclusion that I truly have none worth fretting about. I think service could've been more helpful and friendly. I came the day before to prepare but they only confirmed and did not go out of their way to help me feel welcome. They asked if they could include the service charge (i think about 20-21%) which ended up being $78, total bill was about $390. We're the type that like to tip and even more so bc we want to support the islands and the workers who feel like family to us so of course we don't mind but I can see how some ppl would given that service wasn't all that great (besides the kick-*** massage - no complaints there). In sum, it was perfect but for the price could be better. I still want to come back. read more

I'm not a spa guy. I've never been a spa guy. This made me a spa guy. We had 9 hours to kill and usually we go bowling and the beach. Wife decided we're doing something different. I'm thankful for my wife. Upon arriving i got a nice robe and fresh slides. Sweet! I was shown to the lockers to drop off my personal items. I was also able to store my big luggage in their office. It's so convenient. Everything is so clean. Limitless towels and lemon water and tea. Shaving cream and razors. Lotions and body spray. Each individual shower is lined with lava rock and has its own shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. It's a rain shower. So classy. I spent time in the pool. Then got into the whirlpool so I could get onto the COLD PLUNGE. Oh man, did that feel really good. All aches and pains gone. I did that twice. Then the eucalyptus steam room was very rejuvenating. I did that twice and topped it off with a cool coconut towel as I watched Georgia tech beat Colorado. We were there from 1pm until 7pm and it was an amazing experience. Oh yeah, they also delivered food - we ordered a turkey wrap and Cobb salad. Both delicious and filling and we didn't have to leave our lounge chairs! I felt so lazy and it was magnificent. The service was top notch. If I needed anything at all, staff was there every time. I did the wave massage thingy. Even at the strongest setting it was pretty weak. My husband and I had a couples massage yesterday. It was super disappointing especially considering what we spent. My husband enjoyed his massage, but mine was not enjoyable. I felt the masseuse did odd things during the massage and it wasn't relaxing. She poked me very hard in the side of both hips. Another odd thing she did was hold each toe individually and then the with her other hand yank my leg. Many of the movements were sudden and definitely not relaxing. I felt a bit on edge the entire time. They didn't even allow us to use the outdoor shower in our private couples massage gazebo. I had high expectations, but it was all so disappointing! read more

Recently came here to treat myself to a birthday 90 minute lomilomi massage. Of all the resort spas on Kauai, this spa is far the best on Kauai, and I've been to many resort spas here. Top notch spa with tons of amenities to enjoy your day. I usually do the garden massage as the surroundings is lush and beautiful. I had Christina this time and she was fabulous, she gave me an excellent massage that was perfect in every way in pressure and technique. The only two issues was the hotel was working on the adjacent employee parking lot and there was alot of banging on metal. It was quite loud. They did give a all discount. Also my massage didn't have any music so I don't know if their music system was down. It was amazingly breezy with strong winds that made the trees rustle. It was beautiful. Enjoyed their private shower that was alittle hidden aways. I prefer it's privacy compared to the lava shower. They have new carpeting and new locks on their lockers. I think the lockers are new too. Also new towels. One thing is that they should have juice available all open hours. And snacks or food to purchase. Wish they had steps going into the pool. I don't like those vertical steps you have to climb up and down on. Looking forward to my next spa visit. read more

My husband and I had separate massages scheduled for 11:30 AM on our departure day. This would have been perfect as we would have been able to relax and use the spas amenities before we took off to the airport. We had 5.5 hours before we needed to leave the resort for the airport, so we thought what better way to pass the time then to spend that time at the spa relaxing! 3 hours before our massages, they called me and told me that one of the masseuse's called in sick. Therefore they were unable to offer a massage to one of us and they would have to cancel one of them. They said I could pay for a facial instead of a massage, but that is all they could offer me. We ended up cancelling both appointments because we didn't want just one of us to experience the spa/massage while the other could not. They were hesitant at first and had to check if it was okay to cancel the one that was still scheduled. We were not interested in a facial. Maybe if they would have offered a discounted price for the hassle and last minute cancellation on their part...but that did not happen! It's unfortunate that we didn't get to experience this spa for our 10th wedding anniversary. read more

Had a nice spa experience at Anara. It's very expensive but that's to be expected on the island. My masseuse was good and very receptive to any feedback. I was asked at the start of my massage if I wanted to add additional services which I had already declined when booking so that was not my favorite. But my mom wasn't asked again, so it seems masseuse dependent. I liked the sauna and steam room as well as the Jacuzzi. The shower and locker facilities were nice. I also appreciated that we could return to use the facilities again at any point in the day. read more

A serene oasis awaits you at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. To get to Anara requires a few twists and turns with arrows pointing you closer to Destination Relaxation. To be honest, the entire property is worthy of a walk-through. I recommend the lomi lomi, which is the closest form of Hawaiian deep tissue massage. My session, albeit brief, took place in a wooden hut in the middle of the gardens. Music filled the room with the rhythmic beat of a cascading waterfall. The Garden Isle certainly provides the perfect backdrop for a mental escape from the city. Ho'omaluhia at its best... My massage therapist Greg was fabulous. We hit it off immediately and he knew the perfect amount of pressure for all my tight spots. He performed techniques on my spine and hands that I haven't felt from any masseuse in my years of massage-searching. Impressive! The facilities are well stocked with all the toiletries you need. Excellent service, surely what you would expect for a hotel of this caliber. My only criticism is the jacuzzi that sits in the center of the men and women's lounge, with no shade from the sun or rain. It's a tragedy that there is no view to Kauai's gorgeous arboreal landscape. Def a missed mark in my book. My experience was a touch-n-go day trip, but I intend to return for a longer stay. Another outstanding massage! I returned to this Spa, because my masseuse, Sheree, is phenomenal! I have had many massages in my lifetime, and Sheree is the best of the best, no doubt. The full body massage was comprehensive and flowing. The pressure was perfectly adjusted to each area--firm and therapeutic where I needed tension relief (especially in my neck and shoulders) and gentle and soothing in more sensitive areas (my shins). Every stroke felt intentional, with no sense of rushing. I particularly appreciated the attention to the hands and feet as well. This wasn't just a massage--it was a complete mind-body reset for me. This is a very large spa facility at the grand Hyatt Kauai. This is probably the only thing at the resort that wasn't my style. The pool and whirlpool area is quite sterile and lacking of any island feel. No one was using it when I visited so I'm probably not the only one with that opinion. On the flip side, the massage areas and garden settings are heavenly and what is apparently the main attraction. As there were no bookings available at our time of stay there wasn't a draw to use the rest of the facility. read more

I wasn't staying at the Hyatt, stayed at the Sheraton Kauai Resort. I had a manicure and and a blowout. Prices are outrageous for a manicure. I didn't get the full experience of a great hand and arm massage. I picked my own color. They do carry a great gel polish product. I needed both of the services because we were having a rehearsal dinner for my daughter's wedding. Manicurist pushed down my cuticles but didn't do a great job. Massage was very quick and not relaxing at all. I ask hair stylist to do my ironing with my own ion iron, but she won't. Instead she gave me a mediocre blowout. Price included a 18% tip, therefore you couldn't adjust it to meet the service you received. read more

Guests of the spa have the option to use the lap pool, steam and sauna rooms, jacuzzi and whirl pools with no time limits. I had the 100 minute Pineapple Papaya hydration. Body scrub followed by a relaxing massage. My spa treatment was done in the garden's private bungalow donning an outdoor shower and tub. By far, the most luxurious spa treatment I've ever had! Anara spa had great amenities; the eucalyptus room gets a 10 out of 10. However, the massage I received, it was the worst one I have ever received in my life. I work 5 days a week on the boats in Kauai, so I was extremely excited about my massage (I needed it). The woman was really nice and sweet but wow, it felt like she was "sensually applying lotion" to me for 50 minutes rather than massaging me. Im telling you, she didn't use her thumbs once, absolutely no pressure was applied. I signed up for a sports massage and I received something similar to a human petting zoo. I didn't tell her how disappointed I was, but if she could read body language, my back and shoulders were still stiff as a board. Do not go here if you need a real massage. Now I have to book another massage with another company. read more

The therapist was lovely and the environment was unbeatable. The facial, which was their signature option, was very pleasant, but more focused on feeling nice at that moment than any deep treatments. Personally, I would book a longer massage instead instead of 50 mins of each if I came here again. The other spa amenities, such as the hot tubs, pool, etc., Were all pretty pleasant and not too full of people. I particularly enjoyed the showers which are really pretty and have nice, tropical products in them. If you're looking for a luxurious splurge I do recommend this spa. read more

Wow, the ultimate spa day. We booked a couple's massage in the garden - such a stunning ambiance. I could hear the birds chirp while getting massaged. We did a coconut scalp massage enhancement - so worth it. The garden area is secluded and can only be accessed if getting a couple's massage or a single garden massage. There's a private lounge area with coffee, tea and water available. When you book a massage, you have access to the other spa amenities: steam room, dry sauna, hot jacuzzi and a lap swimming pool. My husband and I always make it a point to end our vacations with a trip to the Spa. Kauai's options are limited, but after much research, I settled for Anara. Note this spa's amenities are nothing to brag about; we did not use the pool or jacuzzi, and the toiletries were limited (a tad disappointing for the price you pay .. can they at least provide hair ties?). The shower placement and space was also a bit odd; I felt the space between the wall and shower curtain was a bit tight, and I am a pretty petite gal. I am still giving a full 5 stars because I knew what I was booking; I knew that we were for their services located in a private bungalow surrounded by a lush, tranquil garden. After 2 hours of a scrub and massage, we left feeling relaxed and in pure bliss. I very much appreciated other guest's etiquette; everyone was using low spa voices, and the overall energy felt relaxed. I would recommend this spa for couples, or single folks wanting some pure R&R, but don't feel like this would be a good option for larger groups. read more

I visited the spa back in January and had an amazing experience. The highlight of my visit was the staff! When I first arrived the person in the gift shop area greeted me and welcomed me in with a big smile which helped to set the tone of the day. Afterwards Manu acquainted me with the men's area facilities and was very focused on ensuring the best experience for me. Anytime Manu saw me he made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. My favorite part was how open Manu made the space feel which really allowed me to fully enjoyed the spa. After my massage Adolf and Daniel continued to assist me in the men's facilities in anyway and I had nice conversations with them both. Christina was my masseuse for my treatment (Pohaku Massage) and she was lovely! She really listened to me before my massage and focused on the areas I mentioned while engaging in a spectacular conversation about the Island's natural environment and green energy practices (a topic of conversation I really enjoyed learning about). After my massage Christina gave me recommendations on some hikes and activities to do while on the island. I chose the Pohaku Massage rather than the Garden Pohaku Massage because it was raining on the day of my treatment. The massage rooms are standard for spas. The facilities at the spa are very nice with an area to sit and watch tv, a jacuzzi, steam shower, and dry sauna. My favorite amenity though was the lava rock outdoor showers with a rain shower head. I was able to use the facilities as much as I wanted before and after my treatment thanks to the room card they give you when you check in. The only thing I would have liked more is if the spa had more greenery. While the garden huts must be lovely the rest of the spa is enclosed within its own walls. A relaxing oasis if you want to take a break from the busy pools at the Grand Hyatt. We got a couples massage here and it was heavenly as it was in a private outdoor area where you could hear the ocean waves and palm trees moving. The massage was relaxing and they used just the right amount of pressure. When we weren't able to get a spot at the adult pool we came here to relax. We were lucky to have Globalist access to the sauna/steam room/jacuzzi and enjoyed the facilities during our stay here. Just got a massage from the Anara Spa. Makana was AMAZING He really focused on the areas that I requested and my pain subsided immensely.

It was my first time going to a spa and it was definitely the first time for me getting a massage. I was nervous going into this experience and rightfully so. To begin with I have extreme anxiety for the unfamiliar as well as being self conscious of my weight being over 350lbs. I looked for videos on what to expect but couldn't find anything at all aside from very few pictures and videos of the lobby area. Now this is for anyone that has never been to a spa or here in general if you come here for a garden or a couples massage. After you check into the front desk you are given a key card that lets you go into your genders locker room. Here you are given slippers and a robe as well as a locker for your current clothes to store in. While in the waiting room you are free to use the amenities including the jacuzzi, shower, and even a sauna (clothing optional). Once they are ready they will transfer you into a cabana waiting room as you wait for your masseuse to come pick you up and bring you to a private cabana. Throughout the whole process they give thorough explanation and tell you to inform them if any of the pressure is too much. I was so relaxed that I apparently fell asleep several times and started snoring. After the massage was done they guided us back to the private cabana where we could relax and was free to go use the other amenities afterwards. Honestly, how can you go wrong with spa services on Kauai?! Located in the Grand Hyatt, this spa offers a ton of services and amenities. My husband and I enjoyed our Lomi Lomi Massages. There are separate Men's & Women's locker rooms with showers, jacuzzis, steam rooms, and sauna rooms. In the middle of the spa, there's a coed area with a jacuzzi, lap pool and a seating area. It's quiet, so if you're looking for a reprieve from the noisy hotel pool, this is it, provided you've paid for spa services for the day. Review for the gym: There are the basic cardio machines: ellipticals (4), bikes (4), treadmills (6). There are also the weight machines: Smith machine for squatting, benching and other target body machines. There are also cable machines, some free weights, kettlebells and an Olympic bar for the functional fitness. The spaces are smaller than your average gym, but overall it did the job. The space is clean, organized, water and towels are provided as well. It's a nice little spot to get a quick workout in while at the resort. read more

I went to Anara spa for a facial and had a wonderful experience. Reason for 4 stars is that my husband and I wanted to book a couples massage but it's practically impossible to get unless you know to book months ahead of time. So I booked only a facial for myself. My husband asked if he could come inside and wait while I got my facial and was told no. So I paid for a very expensive facial but could not even enjoy the extra amenities after because I wanted to enjoy it with my husband and he wasn't allowed in. Clearly the massages are the bread and butter. Maybe in the future you'll consider giving appointment priorities to hotel guests and opening up more massage appointments, instead of the less popular treatments. read more

At the end of my spa day, I was laying on a lounge chair near the jacuzzi looking up at the open ceiling to the sky thinking "is this a dream?" What a perfect spa experience on our honeymoon. Literally the best spa I have ever been to. My husband and I put ourselves on the wait list for the couples massage out in the garden. If you're looking to do this, book it WELL in advance. A week before is too late - they book up extremely fast...and I understand why. We got lucky and got a call for someone else's cancellation. We came a half hour early so we could change and spend some extra time in the garden before our massage. The garden is absolutely beautiful. The sound of the water flowing, the birds chirping, and the wind going by...it was all too perfect. When it became our massage apt time, we were greeted by our therapists: David and Christina. They were very professional and kind. They made sure we were comfortable and asked the right amount of questions. I've had therapists that talk too much or ask too many questions and you can't *zone out* and relax. But David and Christina are top notch. We both felt great after our massages. After your massage, you are able to go back to the locker rooms and enjoy the jacuzzi, eucalyptus steam room, and sauna. You are also able to have coffee, tea, and almonds. There are lounge chairs with an open ceiling so you can watch the clouds go by and feel the breeze and breath in the acne to of eucalyptus. A true treat on our honeymoon. Admittedly, I am not an expert on day spas. Or massages for that matter. Because I'm a dude. But if you're looking for a relaxing spa experience, I can't imagine it gets much better than this. We came for a couples massage in one of their private outdoor cabanas, and it was not only the best massage I've ever had, but just an outstanding experience from start to finish. The spa facilities are huge and complete with a lap pool, wet and dry saunas, jacuzzis, immaculate lockers and awesome rock showers. For the couples massage, they walk you through their private garden to a large open air hut, where you can enjoy some refreshments while waiting for your treatment. The garden setting was really beautiful and tranquil, while the sounds of the waterfall and nature really added to the experience. After our massage in a private cabana, we were left to enjoy the garden and the rest of their amenities. I could have spent all afternoon reading magazines and relaxing in that hut, had we not had other plans. Although there are a lot of outdoor activities to do when you're in Kauai, taking an afternoon to unwind was one of the most enjoyable things we did on our trip. And considering that most high end spa treatments are priced similarly, I can't think of another spa that has as much to offer as Anara. read more

This review is for the amazing couples massage we had at Anara Spa. Ok to be fair, we had two couples massages. I'd say the first one was about 4 stars but the second experience was about 12 stars. It's a huge spa. When you walk in there's a lap pool in the middle with two jacuzzis. Men's and women's locker rooms on either side of the pool. Lockers, showers, lava rock showers and a shower with 12 showerheads! There is a single sex jacuzzi in each locker room area--open air. The normal massage rooms line the rounded hallway between the men's and women's locker room and the couples garden area is out the back. Just sitting in the garden area lounge area was so peaceful. And the couples massages are done in little private huts with 2 tables inside. It's open air and there is a fan so it's quite peaceful to feel the breeze, and have natural light (for the few times you open your eyes). I don't think I've had a massage with the outdoor feeling before. Just by chance, we were able to get 1 female and 1 male therapist both times which worked great because my husband likes the really deep tissue massage and I like the kind-of deep-tissue-massage-but-I'm-still-a-little-bit-of-a-wuss. The first massage wasn't quite as deep for either of us but it was still good and relaxing. The second set of massages by were incredible. For me, she asked if the pressure was ok until it was perfect. So I had her go a little harder until it was juuuuuuust right. Oh it was so painful and so painfully good. She even asked if it was enough in certain spots or if I wanted her to go longer on the back before moving on to the legs. What a personalized experience! If you want to relax, then you found your perfect spot. It's worth the splurge, if you just let yourself go. read more

I arrived 35 minutes early to get settled, familiarize myself with the amenities, and relax prior to my service. The facial itself was enjoyable in the beautiful garden area. Listening to the birds and feeling the breeze was incredible. My esthetician was nice, but I felt the massage portion a bit lacking and not very balanced. I'm sort of OCD about each side being worked on equally and I felt my left side was more thoroughly and carefully massaged than my right. I also didn't realize I would have some powder makeup applied after, and once I left the shade the humidity had me rubbing my face and I ended up smearing all that powder anyway. Perfect excuse to use the lava rock showers which were incredible. Beautiful facilities with dried fruit, nuts, and snacks. Pineapple infused water is delicious. Lovely locker area with all the amenities you need. I wanted to come back to enjoy the steam room and sauna but alas, my son demanded me to be a mother. Maybe next time I will spend a bit more time enjoying the spa. read more
