A beautiful, historic cemetery off one of Falmouth's main streets. Peacefully tucked within an oak…read moregrove, it dates back to 1849 (making it surprisingly recent for New England, the same year John Marshall found gold in the American River) There's an array of statuary- embodiments of grief, angels of all kinds (from cherubic children to stunning beauties) There are obelisks, mausoleums, family plots in neat rows. Graves of those who served in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, both World Wars, the Civil War, all have a peaceful resting place. It's a beautiful, reverent place. It's the final resting place of Falmouth-born poet Katherine Lee Bates who penned "America the Beautiful." A beautiful cemetery indeed. Fitting.

Lots of Revolutionary and War of 1812 veterans are buried here as well as many affluent Falmouth residents. In total there are probably over 3,000 residents including Katharine Lee Bates who wrote the famous America the Beautiful. The cemetery was enlarged many times through the years and is now over 22 acres. Most of the memorials are simple with few obelisks or huge and massive gravestones. Some are old and worn while others are fresh and new. Some unique and creative memorials including lighthouses, little fairies and probably the sexy angel I have ever seen. A very cool old graveyard that offers a variety of different memorials and gravestones in a very bucolic and peaceful setting.

My husband and I had the most egregious experience at the Falmouth Yacht Club today! The winds in…read morethe Falmouth Harbor were 30mph gusting to 40 with blowing rain. We are in a 55 ft Fleming and struggling. The closest dock was the Falmouth Yacht Club dock. To avoid hitting moored boats and for our safety we blew to the dock and tied ONE line to hold us. We needed a few minutes(10 at the dock) to regroup, let our thrusters regenerate, and get some help before proceeding to our assigned slip in the harbor. The "managers" immediately approached us and were very concerned about their dock, NOT our safety or the other boats in the harbor! My husband was up on the bridge captaining and I jumped off the boat to the dock to tie us up-with ZERO help from the "managers"! I was in tears and am a 69 year old woman. These men had ONE concern ONLY and it was their dock, NOT OUR SAFETY! They said our boat was too heavy for their dock and we couldn't stay. We had no intention of staying and my husband said many times that we needed a few minutes to let our thrusters regenerate. If your dock is more important than human life, then great! This is the yacht club for you!! If you value safety then I would think twice about where you are joining!
