best thrift shop out there..gives discount to veterans like me..they have nice 2nd ha d clothing for good prices..

I was really impressed by this thrift store. Everything was extremely well organized and it was such a breeze to find sections I was looking for. The prices are really reasonable and not sky-high like some other thrift stores I've been to. My mom and I left the store with a huge bag of stuff. I was really happy to find two practically brand new and never worn water repellent jackets for $5 each. The jackets will definitely come in handy for when it (finally) rains or if I take a camping trip with my boyfriend in the near future. If we're in the Long Beach area, we'll definitely be back. read more

I needed to get rid of some toddler toys and clothes ASAP. Hated to see the clutter in my home. A lot of places I had called around were no longer taking donations, or else they were only taking a certain type of donation. Luckily I found out about this place and donating my items was a breeze. Just pulled up to their donation drop off and a gentleman helped me unload it from the car. I went inside just to see what the store looked like, and it was very well laid out. The items there seemed to be very inexpensive. Didn't look for anything specific, but it's an amazing place to drop off any donations. This place will definitely be the only place I donate to from now on. read more

This is by far the best thrift store in the northern long beach and surrounding area in my opinion.. It's huge, has sales everyday (Sunday is all colors), and the staff are super friendly.. I highly recommend checking this one out, especially if you're searching for clothing that beats Goodwill's prices read more

Ok totally biased as I literally grew up shopping here! Sad when they closed down but thankfully reopened! Changes have been good although that whole auction thing is for a different kinda socioeconomic customer :) I ho there for garage sale type finds- if I want to bid on a Gucci purse it won't be there :) Parking is always horrific but that's because it's always full of people because the prices are so fair and reasonable. Huge selection, I almost never leave not finding what I went for. Main guy who runs it is always funny and engaging and is a veteran himself. Seems vested in the community and I really like that. Love this place! The prices are the best I've seen anywhere, and they have most everything you would be wanting to find at a thrift store. I frequent this place with mis amigos all the time, and just recently scored two pairs of Vans, in great condition, for my brother. This place is great and the employees are awesome! This used to be a great place for that great find. Unfortunately there is this old annoying bald man in a Hawaiian shirt every day that now literally sits for half a day by the back room to cherry pick all the great stuff to resell. He stops all the carts as they come out to to hog up all the neat stuff before letting others pick. I heard a staffer call him the "Alacran" or The Crab" he causes chaos and makes everybody uneasy there. I noticed prices being marked much higher when he is there. Wish there was a manager that would boot him out for making people not want to stop by and shop there. read more

This is more of a complain on a store manager at Team Amvets Thrift Store of Long Beach, California and not of the overall store as I've gone not only to buy and donate there instead of GoodWill because being a fellow two-time veteran, I'm supportive of this organization that helps out my fellow vets. Earlier today after my Saturday Community College Class, I parked at Amvets to gather some used college books that I figured donating them would greater benefit my fellow vets instead of donating to a library or GoodWill. At the same time, i was also cleaning up some trash I had in my vehicle and placed in a grocery bag. I then approached the guy manning the donation booth and gladly donated them. I then asked if there is a trash can laying around, the store manager as I walked to the large container in the lot and walking back because I realized it's not a trash can since I saw large furnitures, figuring that was a donation bin. I then asked again the guy manning the donation booth when the store manager butted in the conversation first saying "we don't accept trash for donations", where did that come from? I'm just a fellow caring veteran making a donation as I've done often to help out my fellow veterans. I told her I'm not donating trash as I've donated my books and was looking for a bin for trash, she then stated "we don't have funding for taking your trash as our funding is for paying for our trash to be picked up". How rude and to jump into a condescending tone towards a veteran, no apologies except for sorry we can't take your trash which was already too late by then as I was already offended. She then offered that "you can place your trash on this bin but I just want you to realize we don't get funding to pay for accepting and getting rid of your trash" Like wow, this is doubling down on her insulting and judging me. I then stated "would you rather I litter on the donation lot?", then I said "never mind", as I was doing the right thing by looking for a trash can to put my trash in. I don't understand if she was having a bad day, or is not paid enough and is disgruntled but she should not make assumptions let alone be condescending to a donating veteran. I was about to pull out but I was too upset on how I was treated to let this go, I then asked the guy who is above her. He then called her over the radio because she is the store manager meaning she is the person in charge. She came back out and I asked for the name of the person above her. She got very debative with no apologies or empathy on how she acted towards me. The main things I told her before I left is that she's very unprofessional, making assumptions and condescending, that she should not be butting in on people and opening her dirty mouth before actually getting a grasp on what was going on or conversated. I will be filing a complain, posting on Yelp, facebook, BBB.org and will try to find a way to complain to her supervisor Doug Weber (714) 761-5811. No veteran or any good faith donating person should be treated this way. This will never stop me from donating to AmVets but people need to know how this store manager treats good willed people. read more

I've been coming here since they were the Purple Hearts thrift store. Always donating and sometimes shopping. I've never had a problem until today. I had a van full of donations (my god father was a Vietnam vet) and Linda came over and inspected a few items near the back like lift door and concluded it was not new enough and said she could not take any of it. I had antique crystal, samsonite briefcases, glass and silverware. Three suits with tons of dress shirts and ties from Nordstrom. You can find it all down the street at affordable treasures. They were beyond appreciative of my donations. I will never shop or donate here again because of Linda and her rude actions. I get it that they might get more donations than they can handle. Maybe they've gotten too big to realize who they are serving and what the store is supposed to be all about. Very sad. read more

I love supporting our military vets. My husband is an ex marine and there are many members in his family who are or have been in the military. That said I was bothered by the service (or there lack of) that I received when I went to drop of a small box of donations. As I drove in I noticed an employee walk toward my car so I asked if they were still accepting donations. He said "yeah I think so go see that guy" and pointed me toward the lovely attendant who graced me with his kindness and professionalism (sarcasm). He stood there watched me open my car door, pull out the box and walk toward him. I asked him where I should place the box. He stares at me for a few seconds then says...... drum roll.... "We're full, we're not accepting anymore donations". Okay young dude you watched me open the door, pull out the box, walk toward you..... at what point were you thinking of breaking the news to me? I asked if he can make an exception since it was a small box. No, no and no. What bothered me most was his smug attitude. I donate to organizations I feel strongly about. I don't need to be treated like crap to get the hint. I'll take my donations elsewhere. The worst part is that I've come here several times before to find a sign letting donors know that they are not accepting anymore donations because they're full yet I've returned to donate. I used to go here when it was South Street Thrift, but I decided to check this "new" place out. I went in today looking for a light jacket and I cam across some leather jackets that were very tempting. AmVet has a pretty good selection of items. In my opinion they need to add more mirrors. My friend even found a wedding dress for $20. I will come back here in the future. read more

This places is AWESOME for clothes... especially on 1/2 price days... I've gotten some nice stuff here... Lucky Brand, Gap, Guess, etc ... dont know where they get there clothes but they are in great condition at affordable prices... not like Goodwill.. they are over priced, I never go there. read more

I really like Amvets thrift store. I'm a mover so my customers are always giving me stuff that's still good and this is where I usually wind up taking it. The staff here is very helpful and quick about helping me unload my truck. They take almost everything as long as it's in good condition. A lot of the other thrift stores I've tried to donate stuff at don't want to hassle with my donations even though it's good sellable stuff. I've also scored some great deals while shopping inside. I'd give them 5 stars but they can be a little pricey for a thrift store. I recommend going when they have their big 1/2 off everything sales. The store is very organized and there are plenty of cashiers ready to ring you up. All in all going to Amvets is a very good thrift store experience. read more

If you have a small child, this is the best thrift store. I've been to endless consignment stores around the Long Beach/Lakewood area and none of them have the combination of selection, prices, and quality that this store does. I go regularly for shoes and clothes and rarely pay more than 3 dollars for anything. I've even found multiple items with the price tags still on. The staff is really nice and I love that I can use my credit card without a minimum purchase. read more

I'm really disappointed in how this thrift store went downhill. The employees here obviously don't care about the cleanliness and up keep of the store. The racks are unorganized and clothes are just tossed on the floor. I used to shop here every OTHER day and it's makes me so sad on how it is now. The items were pretty low quality and the store looked a little bare, maybe they were expecting a new shipment soon. great thrift store. no dressing rooms though. so you just gotta do the old try pants/shorts/skirt on underneath your skirt trick. do this in front of the small mirror in the back near the books. more privacy that way. parking lot is cramped and always full. i will never go to the Salvation Army or Goodwill again. for a thrift store, they are rip-offs. hours are M-Sa 9-6, closed on Sun. read more

Fantastic thrift store!!! Good inventory and EXCELLENT prices. I moved to California this past year and had a problem finding reasonably priced thrift stores...This one is great. Probably spent three hours there and made out with a huge bag of stuff. As a heads up they don't have a dressing room so you have to try stuff on over your clothes. read more

I shouldn't review my haunts but I must say... this is one of my favorite places to kill an hour. It's not totally overpriced like so many thrift shops in this area (AHEM GOODWILL). The workers are nice, they accept credit cards, the parking lot is of a reasonable size and there's always a food truck out front. Only complaint is that it's dark inside and occasionally I've been chatted up by an odd person but that's what thrift adventures are all about, right? read more

Every time I come here, I spend hours in this store. You can put me here from the moment they open (9am) til noon and I would probably have a bunch of goodies. My sister always so happen to find the better goodies than me. I guess she has the luck. But my husband always finds really good clothes here for himself. Most of them are brand new or like new.. I don't really come to shop for myself, but when I do, I'm a little disappointed. I'm like a size 7/8/9 in pants (depends on the pants) and a lot of times I don't find anything at all for me.. But I don't leave home empty handed. I always find something for my husband, or kids. Mostly our kids. I love when they have all the colors or 4 out of 5 of the colors half off (50%) deal! Sometimes movies, sometimes cd players and such. And even some lightly scratched movies we'be gotten here, play perfectly. Parking and cart finding especially sucks when its their busiest days. I'm sure people park across the street at WinCo or the Dr office and walk over just to catch a great deal! Some of their times are greatly overpriced though.. like a lv purse I saw.. they wanted so much, but it wasnt it a very good condition.. like an ok condition. read more

Always great deals at this veteran-friendly store! However, beware of the STAPLES they use to attach price tags. I have bought some fine shirts there, only to have the staples create holes even when removed very carefully. If they had a fitting room, I'd shop there more often. Great prices, great selection on everything from clothes to furniture, games to knick knacks. I always drive the extra 15 minutes here than stopping at the Salvation Army because their furniture is actually reasonably priced whereas the SA is overpriced. The store is kept clean and they have their own parking lot. Workers are always friendly. I come here once a week :) read more

One of my favorite thrift store. I would work here if they hired me. The employee is so nice, its clean and organized, they are willing to help. The prices are outrageously cheap. I got my work pants and interview clothes here. They recently had a $.95 sale. Anything $9.95 and under is $.95! If they continue to have that i will be here every single time, i love it! read more
