No restrooms. Plenty of (free) parking is available for travelers, and I've never had an issue with leaving the car there for a couple of days. With connections to NYC, Canada, and Vermont, this quiet station is well-located for northern travelers.

This one gentleman named Mr. Ainsley, on the Lakeshore run to and from Chicago was so busy and professional it was like poetry in motion. He escorted kids safely back and forth to bathrooms, parents etc., and you could tell they were relaxed and trustful. He flew past collecting garbage from various areas, looking to make sure everything and everyone was cared for and safe. I think he puts in more miles than the train does ! He clearly is dedicated to keeping Amtrak clean, safe and efficiently run so passengers ride happy and the company is well represented. That said, every employee I met from getting tickets to greeting people as they got on or off trains was caring and positive and a tribute to their professionalism. Good people, all.

It only took a short walk and an escalator ride to get to the train platform. Passengers were able to wait comfortably inside the station until the train arrived. The train arrived on time, and it was very clean inside. The power outlets at my seat worked perfectly, which made the trip more convenient. The seats were comfortable, spacious, and offered much more room than airplane seats. Overall, the trip was smooth, relaxing, and enjoyable.

With the comfortable seats, adequate leg room, and free wi-fi, I usually don't mind the delay, but your time might be more important than mine. Still, Amtrak is a convenient, affordable option for those medium-length trips. Regarding this station in particular, it's pretty barebones. There is a small waiting room that will seat maybe six or eight people as well as restrooms for men and women alike. There is no ticket counter or attendant, but since Amtrak has smartphone apps to buy your tickets and then show right on your phone, the frontier-like, unmanned train shack in the wilderness (or just outside Amsterdam city limits) isn't bad. It also offers free parking and has room for maybe a dozen cars. I've never had any trouble leaving my car there while going out of town for a week, but, if I had left it at the Albany-Rensselaer Station, for example, I'd have to spend another $30 to pay for parking, so free parking is a nice plus.

It's hard to manage luggage with either one and worse with both. The red caps at the station are absolutely fantastic. They help us board the train, help us off the train and today they let me go down to the tracks with them to find my mother who was traveling alone. They're friendly and cheerful and polite and kind. They take a lot of the stress off of me by being such great people.

Warning: the new taxi rip-off situation at Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak station by "Fair Deal Car…read moreService". They have taken over all taxi service (despite what's imprinted on the side of a cab) at the station and charge top-dollar Uber limousine rates. They are NOT a local a taxi company, but a fancy car services one. What used to be a $15-20 ride across the river to the city center is now a whopping $45! The dispatcher guy who I dealt with clearly struck me as a fast/smooth talker con man who was overly gratuitous as he ripped me off, despite my objections to the rate. Once I got on the road, the kind driver explained the whole backstory to me. He told me next time to just make an offer of at least half of what i would be quoted and they might settle for it. Or to call a local cab company ahead of time. He said he used to drive his own cab for a local company, but this is a new company that came on the scene and ran all the normal taxi drivers out of business and he then had to go work for them. Amtrak usually provides parking...otherwise what would be the point. I parked my car left it and hoped all went well. It did and feel confident to do so again. No manned station or ticket sales, no restroom. Just a small enclosed shelter. There's no signage about parking--which is why I deducted a star. A municipal worker who was doing landscaping didn't know about long-term parking. The police station and town office are right next door. We left our make/model/color/tag number along with our name and number so we wouldn't get towed. Customs is really easy on the train!

They did provide a couple snacks - crackers / cookies. I would never recommend this to anyone. Just find a nice route to drive because it will be way more exciting!

The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and the Bunny brought smiles to the kid's faces that I will never forget. The ride was very relaxing for the adults as well. I was very pleased with the experience.
